Good job animators! You can tell they ACTUALLY liked the manga
The twist didn't hit me very hard, as the key visual basically SCREAMS it (pictured below under spoiler bc fr it is so obvious)

but I think it was a very solid first episode. We got to know the main characters and the main antagonists, and it set up the warm to "oh my god this is awful" tone very well.
came from the manga around when chapter 72 was translated, and binged the series until i caught up
i'm quite happy with this! first episode so far, i'm pleased with how it was adapted. i think the studio in charge of the series will pace it well, and will receive a fair amount of attention? i'm already recommending it to friends lol.
this is a series i'm definitely going to wait every week for.
The thread "Why didn't I watch this sooner?!" and it's comments have been merged into this thread.

The Promised Neverland, OH....MY.....GOD, this is some next level plot twist. I thought this was just going to be lighthearted drama about some orphanage kids with a little twist but boy was I wrong. I stalled watching it because of that and now I regret my decision.
In the beginning it seemed like everything was going so smoothly with kids being curious and an obvious mystery of the outside beyond those gates. I thought to myself, "This seems like a nice relaxing mystery drama anime", when it reached the end I knew I was far from being right. Like the darkness and lies that lied under the orphanage appearance were shattered into pieces and did a 270 degree turn. Yh, 270 degrees because it went that far off.
This is going to be the top best in the season and I didn't say hope, IT'S GOING TO BE IN THE TOP 3 this season. It's only going to get better from her on out. So I highly recommend this anime for the season because I know I'll be enjoying it.
I know I'm hyping this anime's first episode but it's just that good
I won't say it is an "unpredictable" or "unbelievable" twist, but it was a good one. So far I'm really enjoying the show, and it somehow reminded me the 1st episode of Akame ga Kill (for the twist I mean).
It's for sure enjoyable. I think it's more a case of mishandled expectations more than anything else.
After months of hearing how great the twist is, you kind of expect a little more. Especially when it's a twist that has started to be used more and more in recent years.
For what it's worth, the twist was there mostly to kick off the plot, and not to surprise us.
Compared to the manga, the anime is nothing
in what ways? Did they make it less intense or just didn't convey something?
Too much information is being loss because of the rush of the anime, the OST it's empty and the tension doesn't exist much because of the non-existent monologues that give a way deeper view of the arc and ofc the Demizu art it's not something that that anime production can replate 80% equal.
I strongly recommend reading the manga from the begin.
PS: Like I said in one comment yesterday:
