As i saw trailer, i feel like something is wrong. My guess is that GoHands is a wrong choice as a animation studio for this project and i also thought that Takayuki Uchida messed up character's design.
There is something wrong with colors and else, but i can't really explain why.
Is there anyone else who thought the same as me? What are your thoughts about this?
I also want to add that orignal manga is really cute and all but anime looking like typical gohands anime and they dont try at all.
Saw that PV, was amazed by the quality, and to realize I had this planned already since announcement. Maybe it's the shaders mod that makes it look good, but the animation such as for the hair is quite notably good. So basically it looks better than most anime that comes out recently for me.
Edit: I realize this reminds me of beyond the boundary, maybe it's just the girl. Also by looking at the manga style, the manga is definitely more simplified and cuter than the PV, which looks cinematic like a movie.
There's a bunch of reasons it looks bad unfortunately. Firstly, gohands has hands down the worst compositing team of any studio making anime right now, and their bad color choices and inconsistent lighting are all over this trailer. Secondly, the character designs are definitely off, and the line count is way too high to be animated consistently, especially since the schedule is horrendous. And finally, every background is at least partially cgi. This wouldn't be the end of the world on it's own, but it was proven earlier today almost every scene in the first pv has assets that were taken straight from the unity store or are flat out reused from other shows (Gohands has plagiarized quite a few times in the past as well). Overall, it's just a really disappointing situation for what's one of my favorite manga right now.
Edit: I actually gotta correct something here, according to some reliable sources the show actually had a fantastic schedule and has been completely done for a while now, which makes the fact that it looks as bad as it does even funnier.
Edit 2: Now that 2 episodes are out it's obvious by looking at the credits that it did indeed have a perfect schedule and has probably been done for months. Turns out you can have a healthy production cycle when you simply don't try.
Glasses are really versatile. First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!" That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses! I really like when their glasses have that suspicious looking gleam, and it's amazing how it can look really cool or just be a joke. I really like how it can fulfill all those abstract needs. Being able to switch up the styles and colors of glasses based on your mood is a lot of fun too! It's actually so much fun! You have those half rim glasses, or the thick frame glasses, everything! It's like you're enjoying all these kinds of glasses at a buffet. I really want Luna to try some on or Marine to try some on to replace her eyepatch. We really need glasses to become a thing in hololive and start selling them for HoloComi. Don't. You. Think. We. Really. Need. To. Officially. Give. Everyone. Glasses?
Having now watched the first episode, the first 3 or so minutes look like someone wanting to flex their mid-to-mediocre camera tracking skills.
But the rest of the episode and the accompanying animation was fine. As a reader of the manga, I think they've nailed the characters so far in the writing.
As long as the camera tracking ends with the intro to the first episode, I think this will be a solid 7/10 anime. Maybe even an 8.
this video explains it well
oh that's a really good watch
it is funny seeing how confused he is by some of choices with camera work in particular--having subjected myself to the entirety of hand shakers, i've given up on questioning it. even when the production isn't built on 3d, absolutely bizarre and aimless camera fuckery is their bread and butter. like i feel like someone at gohands reeeeally wants to get that shaft kind of feeling without actually thinking about what should motivate the composition, and someone else just has a hard on for fisheye and panoramas
I think it’s the excessive use of CGI (to me it looks like they didn’t finish the rendering idk) and the weird angles in the intro.
While these things are still noticeable in the desks and other things throughout the episode, and there are a lot of particles floating around (not a manga reader so idk if this has anything to do with the style) and more weird angles here and there, I think if you make it until the 3 or 4 minute timestamp you’ll get used to it.
For me it’s really solid 7 so far, maybe an 8 by the end of the season tbh
