Agree, really good first episode i like the aloof character designs that go from a blob to cool as fuck during some scenes. The background looks really pretty too but the scene where monster appears grabbed me completely, lightning strikes look great.
When watching live i was not really a fan of the camera work but watching again i like it, the camera being stable during the fight would be good to watch but this one also captures the force of his hits. Also where the fuck did she get such a gun? Comedic parts hit really well too (maybe its the calm before the storm)
Lol it was pretty funny and Cute, although the scars?
like how gender too plays a part in it, tbh its not perfect definition to go by but usage of words like Boku when characters look female also has my interest. 2nd half the directing looked even more polished. When they entered the inn i thought the owner might actually feed them to the monster to get her son or whoever was in the portarit back but during the last cut it seems like she is actually going to fight against it to protect them (maybe she sees her lost ones in Maru) Her drugging them was pretty obvious though but maybe it doesn't affect Maru that much? Also curious about the connection between Tokio and Maru. Really great episode also cannot get over how cool the last scene was. As of now it seems to have every ingredient for a great show so hope it actually "COOKS"

Gonna be honest, at first I thought they were the same person and that the school scene was some kind of flashback since they looked kinda similar except for the hair. Though that ended up not being the case but i'm curious as well
Why is that not the case? I still think they are the same person and it's a flashback, nothing contradicted that so far.
That could certainly be the case for all we know, or that they're related to each other in some way. Who knows?

I doubt that it's a flashback but it could be "nice" for some shock value. Physical attributes don't really match(atleast I dont recall that they do);
Also it seems like they are used to be outside, so it's possible that they were born outside the "school".
It would make sense since they are part of a "squad" and they are searching for people that we are yet to see on the school. Which also wouldn't make sense(atelast so far) to have military type inside the school(becasue it would give the vibes that something could attack at any time).
But I'll say this, so far the anime shows the potential of being something really fucking good; I like this visually more than most of the stuff I've watched in my entire life; It's not only well drawn stuff, but it also transmits somekind of vibe under it.
