Somehow felt even worse than the first episode. They seem to be pushing that the protagonist is great at reading people, and yet he cannot understand Aika...
The story also seems to still be all over the place, I guess one could say that they are laying the groundwork for future episodes, but it just feels really forced.
because it is, it's honestly sad, they keep rearranging things and bum rushing through, at this point next episode and the manga will be completely covered, after that is LN territory, it's super rushed and forced, we're missing a lot of his inner dialogue and it makes him seem like he can read people when in reality it's that he understands where she's is coming from and that's how he gives the advise, it's sad to see this get such horrible treatment and they're rushing things for literally no reason i mean in the light novels they haven't even gotten together yet so i can't see what their aiming for this will definitely be a "go read the source material" anime
I thought the pacing this episode was fine but obviously without said inner dialogue we're just as clueless to what's happening to him as a third party observing him, which ruins this story.
I will say Aika still manages to make me hate her in anime format as well. I understood why she would deny him since he was clearly overstepping boundaries, but now her tsun is just getting in the way. Her attitude worked because Sajou could brush it off, but now that he's taking what she's saying at face value (can't really blame him for that) she just comes off as a massive bitch.
I'm not sure if there's character development of her in the LN, but I don't see a positive resolution to these characters other than everyone walking in their own direction.
This anime is teetering perilously close to the drop-worthy category. Rarely do I deem anything as completely unwatchable (in this season, only ‘Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta’ has achieved that status so far), and I wouldn’t classify ‘Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha’ as overly irritating just yet, but it falls into the realm of being uninteresting enough to make me contemplate whether investing my time in a 25-minute episode that feels like 3 hours is worthwhile or not.
The problem is that the concept itself does have potential. The anime could have become something of a discount Bunny Girl Senpai with a more refined narrative that potentially exists in the source material, but unfortunately has been severely butchered in the adaptation. Although the pacing has slightly improved compared to the chaotic first episode, it remains abysmal. It feels as though they attempted to condense the entire light novel series into just a few episodes. Events unfold without proper significance, leaving everything feeling unimportant. The side girl introduced in the first episode, despite initially appearing as a crucial plot device, has practically vanished from the narrative. Other equally unlikable girls have taken her place, each burdened with their own personal problems. Yet, once again, they fail to capture my interest due to a prevailing sense of insignificance.
That’s how I’d asses the anime as a whole; it simply fails to captivate me. Impotent and limp, completely unable to make me care. It lacks the ability to grab my attention, lacks a compelling hook, lacks power, and shows no potential for improvement. It’s no more than background noise.
I have somewhat enjoyed the episode. This might also be the first anime where I don't want the main leads to end up together. It sounds weird I know but I find this premise more interesting than them always ending up together. People give up on their pursuit of love and switch to supporting their crush from afar. I hope they can represent this a bit better.
