in this season I always think about new style... FOR ME mostly todays episode was weird, like drawings weird and not good, animation was okay, but... it's like with todays chapter of Lookism (beginning looks trashy).
when I read volume 9 in my language I truly believed that Geto was "evil" because of Yuki, yeah Toji gave them the reality, he pointed sorcerers weaknesses, but Yuki was this point in Sugurs life to made him think...
Haibaras dearh... poor Nanami-chan :< maybe his death was point in Nanamis life too, sa
and yesh, I got angry Gojo <333 Nakamura-sensei did beautiful job as always
overall I love todays episode, the idea for it is creative (especially animation in windows and raining that sounds like rain and applause)
on 31th of August we'll start Shibuya guysss
Art style : crocodile / 10.
Freackin' Itachi did it again! From black dot eyes to brown eyes.
crocodile / 10 is not a compliment.
Why do you think the artstyle is bad?
Why do you assume I think that the art style is bad?
I said it was a crocodile / 10. It is not a compliment nor it is an insult. It is a crocodile out of ten.
If you were to ask, in a less framing way, questions such as "what do you think of the art style" or "why do you think the art style is a crocodile / 10" or "what is a crocodile / 10", I could answer.
I had an aneurism reading the 3rd paragraph of this fucking post, for somebody with a JJK pfp you'd think they wouldn't really give a fuck about small stuff but apparently not.
The episode was amazing, if you could please enlighten me on where a drawing looked "Weird"
Old JJK style was amazing, but this one is way more pleasing, the old one was way too glossy and glossified.
don't read it lol I'm not into very first half of it and I don't have to pretend I like it, cuz it's everybodys fav, that's all
'bot weird drawings, e.g. yukis hand when she clenched fist and more
that's down to preference then I guess, but the drawings where she clenches her fist for instance are completely fine also anatomy-wise etc, it's just a different usage of shadows to also emphasize volumes, I personally think it looks great. I don't know if it's Niinuma or Souta, but both of them are very good at showing volumes through shadows and it shows in their work.
Holy shite, this was prolly one of the worst and most pointless episodes I've seen this year. Like what the fuck. xD I can feel the ratio coming.
what are you talking about??? this episode literally explains how geto became evil? How is it pointless?
Hmm, all we got from the episode was a sequence of flashbacks, boring 4 minute talk with Yuki Tsukumo that somehow forced Geto to a conclusion that 'yeah, this is the way I will pursue now' and Gojo meeting Megumi. The whole Geto turning evil could have been longer, even a whole episode, coz in the end, why did he turn evil in the first place? All we know is he got depressed over curses tasting like vomit wiped towels.
This entire episode highlights Getou's ideals and why he suddenly snapped based on what had happened to him previously:
Also worth to mention how he adopted Gojo's stance but doubled down on it (why do you need to protect the weak, etc etc) this whole strong/weak separation leads to seeing non-sorcerers as a different, inferior group and Geto increasingly started to despise them, seeing them as "Monkeys". That is both fueled that he is inherently different from them but also the things he sees/experiences which you point out, and the church follower cheer haunted him al the time, as the series showed. He was conflicted but the view of "they are monkeys which don't deserve to live" becomes increasingly stronger.
That is all fine, I'm not complaining about the core premise of that story part. What I try to point out is that the message it was conveying felt rushed, unclear and just overall kinda boring, Geto getting upset and changing could have been an entire episode worth of content, but it also could be that manga was lacking in that aspect as well... I cannot tell since I haven't read it.
While your observations are accurate, the stumbling block lies not in the aspirations the anime/manga seeks to impart, but in their actual realization. Prior episodes meticulously explored a segment of the backstory, setting the stage for a pivotal moment in the fifth installment that was meant to deeply resonate with Geto. However, this pivotal shift, sparked by a conversation with Yuki Tsukumo, felt abrupt and lacking the thorough development it deserved. The anticipation for a more intricately woven transformation was palpable, yet the execution condensed it into a mere 20 minutes, leaving a sense of missed opportunity.
Literally the most important episode for Gojo and Geto's characters
It may be, but the presentation, execution and storytelling were below poor.
That's just you not paying attention to the hints spread out in every episode
Mate, the anime we are talking about literally has the worst worldbuilding in a shounen I've ever seen, what hints are you talking about?
In the first episode of the season, after saving Utahime, Gojo teases her by saying "you cryin'?". Geto enters the conversation and his first line is "Satoru. It's not nice to pick on the weak." Meimei points out that Geto is the one teasing her without knowing it. This is a hint to Geto's character: someone who naturally dislikes the weak yet he cannot see this truth due to him following the obligations as a jujutsu sorcerer to protect the weak.
When they saved Utahime, Gojo forgot to put up a barrier. This leads to him being lectured by Yaga. After, Gojo asks if curtains are even necessary in the first place. Geto answers by saying "of course it matters. The prevention of cursed spirits is most important for the citizens' peace of mind. For that reason, keeping it confidential is important. Not only that-" and then he is cut off by Gojo. This shows that Geto is by the book and that they have already had this conversation before as Gojo cuts him off as if he already knows what Geto is about to say. This establishes that Geto is the level-headed and ethically just counterpart to Gojo, who is reckless and selfish.
While protecting Riko, Gojo wasn't as strong as he is now. He hadn't learned the reverse cursed technique, keeping his infinity active at all times would strain his body, and he couldn't use red or purple. When Geto realized Gojo hadn't slept for 3 days, Gojo said "I'm good, man. Besides, you're here too" and this makes it obvious that he felt safe with Geto. Gojo often fought with Geto, trying to assert his dominance, but Geto did the exact same. They used to be the strongest duo together.
The assassination of Riko made both of them emotionally distraught. After Gojo kills Toji and carries Riko's corpse out of the chamber, Gojo asks "Should we kill these guys? If we do it now I probably won't feel a single thing". To which Geto responds by saying "Nah. There's no meaning to doing that." Gojo then responds by saying " Meaning... Is that really necessary?" Geto answers "Yes, it's very important. Especially for sorcerers." At this moment, Geto is able to maintain his composure and convinces Gojo to not massacre these cult members for no reason. By doing this, Geto truly shows the extreme to which he would go to follow his duty as a jujutsu sorcerer.
As the morally ethically just side of Geto is extreme in the way that he follows his duties is one side of Geto. The other side is also one that Geto followed to an extreme.
Toji gave Gojo his blessing (Megumi in japanese means blessing) and gave Geto his curse (the curse Toji used to store his items) not only physically but also mentally. Gojo became stronger thanks to Toji while Geto could only watch Gojo becoming stronger and more distant because of Toji.
Gojo becoming stronger separated them and made both of them lonely. By seeing Gojo as "the strongest" instead of them both being "the strongest", Geto falls into isolation and although Gojo doesn't show it as much, he also fell into isolation. Geto now no longer has a friend who's there to stop his downward spiral.
Seeing the cult members mindlessly clap over his friend's death at Geto's highest point of grief took a big part in Geto's coming to his realization. After being traumatized by the claps of the cult members, Geto is at his limit. He asks himself "For who?". He wonders for who he is suffering. Geto says "Ever since that day... I've kept asking myself. What I saw then wasn't unusual at all. I was well aware of that ugliness. I already knew that and I made the decision to be a sorcerer despite it. As one who is strong, you must fulfill your obligation". After being reminded of the clapping, he finally breaks by saying "You fucking monkeys".
When his best friend betrayed him, Gojo felt insecure and lonely and he realized it wasn't enough for him to be strong, he needed strong allies to back him up, which is why he became a teacher.
Haibara's death deeply affects him because we could see that he acted as one of Geto's emotional pillars. Geto doesn't want to see any more of his friends dying, which is the main reason for him killing all non-sorcerers. He doesn't want to see his friends die for the sake of the same people who mocked his friend's death. In jujutsu kaisen 0, Geto still sees all the sorcerers as his friends
I could also talk about Yuki accepting Geto's plan and in a way encouraging him by saying that it's the easiest way to achieve her dream even though what he needed most was somebody stopping him, Geto deciding to finally take action after seeing two young girls tortured by the village and many others but I don't want to repeat too much of what others have already said
SB: Shouta Goshozono
Enshutsu: Atsushi Nakagawa

Sou-Sakkan: Souta Yamazaki
Assistant Sou-Sakkan: Sayaka Koiso

I liked this overview. I didn't totally notice the exaggerated distances until you mentioned it. Also worth adding; the use of other objects to obstruct our view of a particular character (pillars with Toji, people with Geto) paired with quick cuts and sudden disappearances makes dialogue-dense scenes more suspenseful for me. Oh, and yeah, there's the obviously brighter colour palette and the tall, thin designs to emphasise nostalgia and youth, but that's a general observation.
JJK, an anime which has more fights than the number of episodes, went on storytelling mode today. What did it deliver? ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!
All the buildup, from the movie to this arc, has been completed. Now, time to witness the Shibuya Incident Arc, which made JJK as popular as it is today. Can't wait till 31st August
Wait...what...that was it!?
What a garbage of a villain!
AoT/SnK Spoiler:
Even worst than Eren!
I mean...how many of these people that can use these "powers"???
How many in ~7billion???????
Garbage villain.
I wouldn't compare it with Thanos...but The High Evolutionary was a better villain than this!
The dangers of the non-juju users is not presented like that much of a big deal. (some of these villain "friends" getting killed).
Just imagine these Juju users as police man and woman...that decided to kill ~7billion people to "save" 100000 people just because 4-5 police man & woman got KIA.
What a joke of a reason.
The High Evolutionary wanted to create the "perfect" kind of being...that wouldn't even fight one with another...
The Juju people will not fight one with another when only them are alive???
What a JOKE!
Really melting my brain that people seem to not like this episode considering the absolutely gorgeous visuals. My only real complaint is the choice of soundtrack used in the confrontation/breakup, What should've been a really depressing moment was overlayed with a weirdly out-of-place happy OST. Other than that, wonderful use of sound design with the clapping motif.
Really liked the sound design of this episode, the rain and shower sounding like claps was very cool.
Geto's motive makes more sense now doesn't feel anymore like a knock off Voldemort. Though I don't understand why he is not working with sorcerers anymore? We mostly see him with the cursed spirits and they don't seem under his control.

I don't think Gojo would make the error of not killing Geto at the end of JJK 0. Current time "Geto" is most likely a different person, maybe some brain transplant shenanigans looking at the forehead scar. (P.S. manga readers pls don't spoil).
I mean Toji absolutely destroyed Gojo put a knife on his head, stabbed him fatally multiple times and Gojo still got up with reverse curse energy. Geto could have done that too or something else since he collects all sorts of curses. Mahito is full of scars all over his body so maybe he could have helped him.
In the episode I thought that maybe Geto became a curse since the blonde girl mentioned that it is possible. But I remembered that normal people could see him fine so he definitely ain't a curse. Also Geto still hates curses since he was disgusted by the idea of considering Jogo, Mahito and the others as equals. I just find it weird that in season 1 he never collaborates with other sorcerers but instead with curses that want to achieve the opposite of what he has in mind.
-this episode and season has looked incredible and superior imo
-idk if people have some serious OCD or something, but freeze frames, animation, and color palette speaks volumes above JJK season 1 and is similar to JJK0.
-felt like Monogatari, which was pleasing and comforting for being such a downturn of an episode emitonal-wise
The direction was amazing in this episode, and in comparison to the manga its practically a 1 to 1. My only gripe is honestly the ost used during certain scenes such as Gojo confronting Geto, in my head a couple of years ago when I first read it I would have pictured a more serious and emotional track but honestly this is such a nitpick that it honestly doesn't matter.
Yeah I agree that some of the scenes looked off, especially ones that are supposed to be super important to the plot. For example, the Gojo/Geto confrontation in front of the KFC scene. This is such a monumental moment for both characters’ plotline but it’s drawn sloppily as if it was just a throw away transition scene. Ngl they could’ve just reused JJK 0 movie’s scene and saved time and money without downgrading how it looked and in turn the whole tone of the scene. Besides that, this episode was a very interesting deep dive into Geto's mindset.
The movie’s scene actually had simplistic animation since it’s just them standing still while the civilians are blurred, yet it was able to capture the somber and dramatic mood simply through shading and lighting.

Meanwhile in season 2’s scene, Gojo looked especially low quality. Some shadows or defined lines could’ve made a world of differences. They did it for Geto’s shower scene so idk why they didn’t do it for this scene.

Are we so used to flat characters and static scenes that when an anime with dynamic perspectives, camera angles, vivid colors and sound design finally comes along we just lose our minds and call it bad because it's made with more care and heart and freedom of expression than most anime airing because it's different? Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. Because we are children.
Maybe I haven't seen enough anime for it to affect me. Which I'm grateful for, I can still enjoy unique and beautiful animation without throwing a tantrum when my favorite character going through severe mental anguish is animated to reflect his current mental state. It's as if showing a character's emotions is the whole point of animation
Jujutsu Kaisen is fucking amazing, this episode is amazing, the episodes leading up have all been amazing, and all the people working on it have earned all the praise given to them.
