This last episode was a very "Liar, Liar"-style episode, not just a quick wrap up to the ongoing events. There wasn't really any formula change to facilitate a smoother finish, but rather a confident plough forward with its already established methods.
The final segment with everyone at ASTRAL, where the Eimei team came together and exchange words, mostly kind words towards Shinohara, was a great way to close off this chapter of their journeys.
The ending itself was left as a cliffhanger to the anime, and I wonder if this'll ever get a second season to adapt more content from the light novel. Who, knows; it might just be laid to rest as a promotional season for the light novel, and never get any follow-ups.
As a final analysis, this season was an interesting one. Despite most of the details making their way into the adaptation, sometimes, it got a little messy. This was the biggest complaint that I saw most people bringing up, and one that I felt at times, too.
I think the amount of fan-service was also reasonable, but what really struck me was the great character designs. This anime had pretty much everything going for it, if you consider everything but the story and story telling. Which is to say that the story and story telling wasn't horrible, but like previously stated, it got muddy at times.
I think the flow of things throughout this season wasn't bad at all, and the starting point, conflicts, and where it left off were also well done.
This anime definitely isn't for everyone, but if you can do your best to follow along and enjoy the details, even when it's overkill, you'll find something in it.
NGNL thinks it's so smart and great (but it isn't) versus this anime leans into its stupidity so much that it is great. Every time characters see each other, they are surprised that their monologue is interrupted. Sometimes they take a half episode for a completely unrelated, nonsensical ecchi/romance scene. Maid-chan is overpowered. Everyone is constantly cheating yet they all believe in the value of the game. Every girl unquestionably loves the main character. The middle school girl has the personality of a baby (only in anime do we get epic middle school gangs like Tokyo Revengers, middle schoolers who look like sexy 20-year-olds, and middle schooler babies like Tsumugi Shiina). The elements of the show are not even tropes anymore, they are beyond what I would every expect. It's no longer generic and instead has the fun or comedic effect of a parody. I would say COTE is the most similar show.
As the thread op said, "overkill" is the essence of why I like this anime.
As expected the story continues, so at least another season is needed, this first season was good, even if, at least for me, at times it was a bit complicated to fully understand it, even in this final episode some things were explained in a way that was too "technical" especially at the beginning, but I'm happy that little Shiina was saved and that Hiroto won with the help of his companions/friends, I also really appreciated the fact that Sarasa was "saved" " knowing how to make the most of his talent, without resorting to lies. I'm waiting for the second season, in the meantime rating: 8
