I personally won't be addressing any issues with Grunge as an FLCL going forward, unless it somehow pertains to the current episode. You can see others and my thoughts about the topic at [Spoilers] FLCL: Grunge | Episode 1 Discussion.
I don't know if I was just seeing things, but the CGI animation within this episode was super in and out. One scene would be normal, and the next would look like a rough draft. It eventually picks back up, though, kind of ….
We also got three hand animated, full-frontal frame, but at least we got a very, sort of manga-like segment, like in the original FLCL.
This method of story-telling via perspective is pretty interesting. It's kind of a shame (maybe not, for some people) that Grunge will only end up being three episodes, since we're already over halfway through, and there hasn't really been anything that worth-while.
Rock guy's laugh is funny, too.
I'd wager that this is a bit more worthwhile than the first episode and I find the newly revealed structure of the show to be interesting, but we've [apparently?] only got one episode left and so far this show is a whole lot of nothing (or at least more of nothing than something).
I will say that my big complaints about this being too much of a remake of the first show have flown out the window, but I don't think what we're left with is much better.
