Original Title: Now that the show's over what are your thoughts?
The show was hit with some delays and it seems people didn't really make threads after that, so let this serve as a place to convey your thoughts on the show as a whole.
It had to end just when things were really getting interesting. I'd love another season (or two), but I get the feeling it ended this way to motivate people to pick up the source material, in which case a continuation is unlikely.
Overall, I really enjoyed it, definitely above average for its category. I preferred the first arc (before Luciel was sent to the capital) over the dungeon crawling second arc, as there were more interesting characters, character interactions, and overall character development, but I still enjoyed the second arc plenty. It just felt slightly rushed, almost certainly due to having to fit everything into a single cour.
I'd love to see where the series goes from here, but I doubt I'll actually get the chance, as I'm not really a fan of reading book translations, as they almost always lose a lot of the author's flavor during the translation process, especially when going from a language like Japanese to English, as the two are just too fundamentally different on a basic level.
Sadly, my Kanji knowledge is still pretty pathetic, with the number I actually know being closer to a rounding error even compared to the basic Kyoiku Kanji taught in elementary school. And, with everything going on in my life (severe illness, just moved into a new house in a new city in a new state, my stepdad being diagnosed with Parkinson's, and a million more things), it looks like it will be a while before I can dedicate any time to advancing Kanji knowledge.
If my immune system decides to stop trying to kill me, maybe I'll eventually get a chance...
There are also some open questions, like if levels 1-10 are that easy how come most people fail(ed) on these? If the Valkyrie Paladins are that strong how come they had to quit at level 31 when Luciel got to 50 by himself? There never is any explanation as to why that door to the lvl 40 boss remained closed, or why Luciel apparently had supplies for 6 months in his sack. Of course you plan ahead, but THAT much?
Outside of that, I like the plot overall, the setting, as well as the idea of clinics charging a shitton of money for their services being the central motivation, and them sticking to that
Probably because the Valkyries can't endow purification / holy on weapons and can't heal at all even if the weapons are strong enough.
The door probably was a labyrinth trap forcing someone to stay. The food supplies is probably an asspull out of Shinchou Yuusha, originally MC planned ahead for the 40th floor boss, after that he had to rush to the 50F with the stinky X substance.
My balls were blue because of this anime, either this guy don't wanna ship the rabbit girl or Monika or Cattleya
This show was weirdly/unexpectedly good. A lot of shows in this genre start off as adventure before devolving into harem/SoL/genericness/etc. whereas this one kind of does the opposite. It starts off pretty generic and has me expecting a small-town-doctor kind of scenario before abruptly becoming pretty adventure-focused. Given the MC's growth and the show's own growth, I'm hoping for a S2 that continues the adventure!
One thing I can't get over though is the labyrinth shop that the church has. For some reason this church has a fully staffed item shop for the dungeon crawler, of which the show establishes that there is only ever one of... So it's a store for one person. And even then the store is pretty irrelevant since the church generally provides equipment (the fancy robe, the equipment room that the supervisor tells MC about, etc.), the crawler is paid a fortune and could easily use regular shops, and within the narrative it's pointless since the church gives S-tier gear/items/tomes to MC given his success.
Obviously the writer(s) wanted the shop to gamify the story, but it's a bit silly in the show.
This was such a dogshit show honestly. I regret finishing it. How is it 70% average score?
The training arc was infuriatingly boring. Like, I get what they were going for, but I wish they would've rush it into 3-4 eps max instead of 6. There was barely any character development and the training could've been more of a montage. I had absolutely no attachment to most characters by the time of (supposedly emotional?) goodbyes, so ep6 felt fucking hollow and boring.
And then the cathedral ark was just disappointing. The whole way I hoped that after they spent so much time showing his GRUELING TRAINING FOR 2 YEARS there will be "hero is actually stronger then he thought" moment, but it never happened. The dungeon segment got my hopes up and then he came to train with girls and just got wiped and degraded again. What the actual fuck was the point of all that training arc if he's still weak and borderline useless against anything but zombies? He can't even evade a injured hobo with a knife in ep11.
Yes, he clears the labirinth, but at the end of the day it feels unearned because outside of it he still sucks.
The whole show is just "look at that dumb loser, what the hell is he doing lol, god I hate to be next to him" without even trying to redeem the MC. And it doesn't even feel like a joke (the show is just generally unfunny), it feels like the author actively hates the character.
There's no funny jokes, no character chemistry or progression, just a series of uninteresting events and hollow dialogues without any satisfaction at the end. Absolutely awful. Bottom-tier isekais are at least so bad that it's entertaining, this is just nothing.
