...Yeah, this is a very special kind of horrible. "Your dialogue is absolute shit, right until the very end!" said by the girl at the end definitely encapsulates what's so wrong with this show... not even the banger ED or a good story is gonna be able to save these characters at this point, Jesus Christ.
Holy shit I didn't expect to enjoy this. Like... I don't even know if it's that bad, maybe it is. It was so bad, random and quirky i couldn't get my eyes off the screen.
I liked the aesthetic overall and the CGI was fine. I actually liked the girl, but if the MC keeps being like he is right now he's going to get annoying very quickly. The premise reminded me of Mirai Nikki, which was interesting at the very least (and let's be real, it's not that hard to pull off something better than that show)
Maybe a guilty pleasure? I'm gonna keep watching to find out.
Ugly looking, unlikeable protag, characters who will kill without remorse for following what they believe in (their wish), a hint that the protag is mentally unstable, critique on the current world via a an alcoholic mother who wastes her time with Bitcoins and more. Yes, this is a Yoko Taro show 100%.
I have to say that despite the ugly models, the visual effects are cool, especially when they are in the esotherical scenario, that site transmits a lot with only being there.
I knew my hunch would be on the money, now if only this can keep the momentum and not fall into standard death game easy writing...
Ima give it a few more episodes, but right now it is giving me Higurashi vibes, and from me that isn't a compliment.
For One, it isn't great to look at. And I don't even mean the CGI. The character designs just suck. Protag-kun is boring af, though I did kinda like his buddy. It's a death game, those are a dime a dozen now and it doesn't seem like this one is going to do anything special(Platinum End much). The op and ed are completely forgettable. So, yeah. Not a good start, but like I said I'll give it a fair shot.
Absolutely horrible with one of the worst killing-game protagonists I've seen.
Can't wait for next week lol
It's pretty standard for killing game protagonists to start out as whiny and weak, so they can either grow as a character, or have something die inside and become cold and sociopathic. As long as he doesn't stay that way like with Mirai Nikki, he'll be fine. And I really can't see Yoko Taro doing that.
I've personally gotten kind of bored of the "secretly badass" killing game protagonists who pretend to be normal but are supposed to actually be twisted genius killers all along. At the very least, this guy's reaction was somewhat realistic for a highschool student.
Disagree personally. Part of the reasons why series like Tomodachi Game is so good in my eyes is because the protagonist isn't whiny or weak, and he actually uses his brains and does what's needed to survive. If I wanted to watch a wimpy killing-game protag, I'd go through the Danganronpa series or rewatch Platinum End.
I don't know, I just expected more from Yoko Taro with how he generally writes characters. This one felt like a slap to the face in a way.
I get needing characters to grow and develop in these types of series, but there is a way to do it without having them start off as the most annoying character in the series. At this point I'm wanting him killed off so a different character can take his place
I don't know guys, the cgi looks good, I don't know why you don't like it, the studio is new
Because the combination of the CGI with the artist style doesn't combine at all, making it an ugly mess.
Looks perfectly fine to me, and, at the very least, it definitely isn't an "ugly mess". It's just different from the usual 'default' style 99% of anime use these days, and studios need to try something new now and again, or else the medium stagnates.
If you had said that about the first couple episodes of "Kingdom", I could at least see where you would be coming from, but this is at minimum serviceable.
I watched a lot of CGI anime and I know when I see "ugly mess" and this is it. You say this doesn't look like 99% of animes and blablabla, but the fact is this kind of CGI is how most of cheap anime CGI look.
This is not at all about being original, if they tried to be original it would look more like the kei visual of the series, and clearly the studio is unable to do that. For the models, at least.
Do you like it? Fine, perfect, good for you. I don't and I consider it an ugly mess, so don't try to change my perspective.
"It's just a bunch of nonsense."
And it is true to the bitter end. I didn't know what to expect with this being Yoko Taro and Jin (Shizen no Teki-P), but I kept my expectations mild and was still disappointed.
The CGI's not bad, but it's also not good. The designs for each character are probably the worst Atsushi Ohkubo (Soul Eater, Fire Force) has done. The music's decent. The plot and script... Well, it isn't good.
It's only the first episode, but first impressions are everything -- and it is a really bad one.
I'll still watch, but man...
