Question about Digimon Adventure Tri and 02 The Beginning

I wanna ask digimon fans out there about the upcoming 02 Movie. It seems to be around in the same style and vibes as Adventure Tri. Now about Tri, ive never actually seen it.. it looks cool enough, but for years, i heard on the internet on it being a bit of a mixed bag or it bit off more than it could chew and all that stuff

Is it actually worth watching? and will it be crucial to understanding 02 The Beginning?

Tri is terrible. You can check it out for yourself and see how you feel, maybe you'll like it more than most people, but it won't matter for the new movie. Tri was made by a completely different staff that never really got a handle on what made Digimon click. Last Evolution Kizuna and now 02 The Beginning are made by a collaboration of staff from the original Digimon Adventure (most importantly Seki Hiromi) and a new generation of young talent who grew up with Adventure. They have functionally 0 to do with Tri and while they don't remove it from canon, they do practically ignore everything that happened in it.

So tl;dr, it's not worth watching and you won't need it to understand the new movie, but you should watch Last Evolution Kizuna first.

  hey thanks a bunch, this is the kind of answer i need. Since i dont really have that much free time anymore and ive got WAY more crap to watch. Hell, between you and me.. ive never even seen Our War Game. And its been ages since i watched the original Adventure

  I can confirm that Tri is awful while Last Evolution Kizuna is pretty neat. Our War Game is excellent and you should check it out.

  Maybe I should give it a go since Adventure 02 movie is coming out. And while I'm at it, maybe even watch the old 02 movie too

Well in my opinion is Tri a great watch sure a bit weird but enjoyable. Kizuna on the other hand is IMO extremely terrible and the end feels like a getting spit in the face (especially with the ending we got from the original show).

Well 02 The Beginning is after Kizuna BUT I watched it today and I can confirm it doesn't matter at all if you watched Kizuna or not because you get 0 spoilers from it which is good. So it's save to watch without watching anything before :)

But about the 02 The beginning movie I can say that I liked it but I guess a lot of people will hate it because some stuff is super weird and doesn't make sense and the otherall plot isn't that special. But overall it's a nice watch but you wouldn't miss anything if you don't watch it

  Wait wait, the movie is out already? Damn I didn't know. All I know is that it comes out in my country around late November. Still, you're one of the few ppl who has the opposite opinion of many others. Preferring Tri over Kizuna. I at least liked the revamped ver of the original OP and ED from Tri at least

I agree with headfallsoff, no need to watch Tri but watching Kizuna should be a good idea. I'll add that given a timeline shown in an official stream plus the very plot of the new movie, Tri is likely not even canon now.

Tri is a decent watch, it has it's issues but it's fun, Kizuna is a must watch for the 02 movie (for several spoiler reasons)

Aside from a split second reference in Kizuna, it seems like the director of these films are trying to ignore the existence of Tri so I'd say it's skippable.

I am in the minority that did enjoy Tri tho despite all it's plot holes and lose ends...

Guess I'll add my two cents, as I've watched 02 The Beginning today, even if I'm 2 years late.

Like other mentioned there isn't really any connection to tri. As for Kizuna, seriously don't remember what even happened in it. As for tri, the first 4 movies/episodes are quite interesting, as they are setting up an enticing scenario and giving every digimon of the Chosen ones a mega, but they fumbled after that with the memory loss, just seems like a cheap plot device.

So back to the 02. Not sure how to describe, but it tried to take some notes from Digimon Ghost Stories, with the creepy atmosphere and how the plot was unfolding. Thought it was lackluster, as there wasn't much of a setup, just that new kid spawning having a tragic backstory and becoming the first Chosen one, with spawning all the other ones . Wish there would have been a bit more of an aftermath after the ending scene.
