AniList is looking to recruit talented new data moderators to join the team.
This is a volunteer role for community members looking to give back to the site. The responsibilities for the role include:
This is a serious time commitment, but is very rewarding!
All applicants must meet the following criteria to have their application be considered:
Submission Criteria
This time around, we will be requiring a minimum of 10 accepted or partially accepted submissions to qualify. If you've never made a submission, don't fret! You can get started by reading over our Submission Manual.
Character and image submissions will not be counted.
Adding new anime/manga, as well as editing existing entries counts toward the submission count.
We value quality over quantity. Having made high-quality submissions will improve your chances of being selected.
To verify how many of your submissions have been accepted, you can head over to the "Submissions" tab on your profile.
If you have any questions about the data mod role or the application process, feel free to ask in the thread below, or DM me on Discord: taluun.
Wait this one's got a minimum age requirement of 16 unlike the community mod one? Also no banner on the home page (yet).
...I'm torn. I don't have much time but I really want to... plus it might make it easier to get the thing I want done...
There was a minimum age requirement for the community mod recruitment too.
Also, good luck to all applicants! ^^
Yeah, but the minimum age for that was 18 right?
The general idea is "community moderators need to directly not only interact with others but are especially likely to deal with problem users, harassment, NSFW material, etc." That no one should be expected to help with such under 18. Data moderation is fairly easy to just keep to yourself for the most part if a person wants.
Can you tell us more about what should we do???
For example can someone only check other people submissions or edit or we should sign new ones as well???
Also is it like we should put some exact time every day on it or something like that. No one don’t want some inactive moderator so how do you divide inactive and less active people
Best regards
Can you tell us more about what should we do???
This is kind of vague and a rather large question so I am not entirely sure how to best answer it.
For example can someone only check other people submissions or edit or we should sign new ones as well???
I'm not sure what you mean by "sign new ones as well" but data moderators are able to (and expected to) routinely review the submission queue and handle submissions made by users but moderators can also add any sort of data to the site.
Also is it like we should put some exact time every day on it or something like that.
We do not expect or track peoples activities per hour. This isn't a paid gig where you need to be available from 9 AM to 11 AM every day. All we ask is that you try to help out somewhat regularly and pay attention to when you get pinged in the moderator discord. If something comes up where you wont be available for an extended amount of time then we ask moderators to mention it in a dedicated channel.
No one don’t want some inactive moderator so how do you divide inactive and less active people
Historically if a moderator has stopped doing data work for months, does not state themselves as being away for a short term amount of time, and has not changed behavior after lead moderators have repeatedly talked to them about their inactivity they are then removed from the team. This process typically takes like half a year or even a year to happen with many chances for a moderator to change behavior and do more.
Thanks for answering. I got answer to most of my questions
I'm not sure what you mean by "sign new ones as well"
Sorry my bad. I meant does it required to add new data as well as checking others or not. Considering that you said you are just asking for some help I got my answer. Once again thanks for your time and attention
This is a serious time commitment, but is very rewarding!
Could you please provide more details regarding this statement?
Specifically, what is the daily time commitment expected, and what does the term 'reward' entail? Is this a paid position or does it involve other forms of compensation?
what is the daily time commitment expected
There is no daily time commitment. We do ask that moderators try to regularly help with data, there is not hard limit of "we need 7 hours a week". Ideally if everyone on the team handled like 5-10 submissions a day, this can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes in most cases, maybe an hour.
what does the term 'reward' entail?
The primary reward is being able to help other users as well as improve the flow of knowledge for anime and manga for the greater community. If those aren't appealing then the position is likely not for you. We also get free donator perks and preferential choice on character images (assuming they meet the guidelines and another moderator doesn't also have a preference for that specific character). But those perks aren't really good enough for the work expected if you don't also care about helping others or the improving the spread of information.
Will people who submit - or have submitted - their application during this period be considered for the newly added "Staff Data Mods"/"Character Data Mods", or will that be a separate submission category in the future/a rebranding for some already existing staff members that we shouldn't concern ourselves with for the time being?
(I hope I'm not ruining a surprise by asking about this)
So a couple of months ago we had those roles discussed and we had started to set up somethings to implement those roles. As we got closer to being ready to put out applications the new roles hadn't yet gone live on the site and there were problems with getting them on the site for various reasons. However when the banner ad for mod apps went up yesterday, that also brought with it the fix to introduce those new roles.
I don't know what we are going to do with them at this moment. It wouldn't really be great to add them in midway through applications, it could just complicate and confuse things. However moderators probably aren't going to want to do a 2nd round of mod apps immediately after.
So the short answer is I wouldn't hold my breath, but it might be something we do soon, not sure.
I'll be looking forward to whatever you folks come up with (given I very much have a horse in this race, submitting characters being one of my minor hobbies and all, lolz). Perhaps people brought onto the team following this year's "elections" could be given the choice to specialize in characters/staff by their own free will if they so desire once the results are in (not a serious suggestion on my part, just spitballing)?
I just noticed I put in the timezone in the wrong format, is that a pretty fatal error ahah?
More seriously, would one recieve an eventual positive mail after the deadline closes or during the time in-between? I'm curious to know the timeframe of application reviews.

Honestly its not that big of a deal

There is a tentative goal of moderators fully reviewing apps within 3 weeks of the apps closing and then we will likely spend another week to schedule and have a call/discussion to finalize things. So probably midway through December, maybe the end of December (Merry Christmas to the new mods!)
Do Data mods get the perks that are received when a donation is made?
No, moderators have no donation perks unless they donate themselves
Edit: Yes, that's apparently possible
@FateXBlood Ping because I don't know if you saw my edit in time
"When will the results be provided?"~!!~
Refer to this comment. As far as I'm aware, you will not be notified if you don't make it.
Just a reminder that link submissions for new manga entries closes in 4 1/2 hours. If you want to apply for manga data mod but don't meet our minimum, then updating/improving existing entries is a good way to show us your potential.
Once again, good luck to those who apply.
