What did you guys think about this episode? Im really happy they adapted the "Im you" the way they did.
"I am you"
The fact that the author pulled this card (which doesn't fit the context anyways)to make it deep when its inherently and ironically pretty shallow... lol.
Broski I'm gonna be honest I don't think you understood the scene
It isn't that deep mate
Because it isn't supposed to be deep. The concept wasn't supposed to be really that hard to understand
Not understanding is your assumption mate
Just saying the author is doing a pretty crappy job in potraying the parallels by making it surface level deep in case you misunderstood.
Because the whole thing is meant to be something that is surface level. The whole fight (for Mahito) is a fight of ideals.
"I am you in the same way that you are me. The same way I kill humans indiscriminately, you kill curses indiscriminately. Until you accept that, you will never beat me."
Mahito sees that as something that makes them both equals, he thinks that as long as Yuji continues to believe that he's better than Mahito in a moral standpoint, he's not going to win. It's a shallow, stupid and childish view that Mahito has, and one that Yuji ends up embracing. For as long as Mahito believes that he was born to kill humans, Yuji will believe that he was born to kill curses.
"You were right, Mahito. I am you. I didn't want to accept it, I wanted to deny you. But now, I just want to kill you. I don't need to find a meaning or a reason. In the grand scheme of things, I'm probably nothing more than a cog. But I will keep killing as many curses as I can. That's my role in all of this."
Yeah the "deepness" of this to make it look like Gege is a good writer (hint: he isn't) is pretty funny, it's really poorly done.
Again don't know how JJK fans are eating it up. Mahito's arc was overall pretty good and he is my favorite villain in the show, however the "you are me" analogy is a bit over the top and non-sensical looking at how it's supposed to be portrayed. I doubt Yuji will ever reflect on Mahito after Shibuya if at all (which seems to be a reoccuring theme), which will in tandem prove how non-sensical said analogy is. While I can see what it's getting at, it's a huge stretch of nothingness.
I don't hate JJK, I in-fact like it mostly for the fights (because that's all it's good at), but it's very clear 70% of the people cooming over the series wouldn't get good writing and development if it hit them in the head.
If you wanna see some good writing and analogies watch Monogatari idk what else to say.
Saying Gege isn't a good author is kind of ridiculous given how popular the series is. I didn't care for the first season much, but everything since then has been great. Likewise comparing it to Monogatari which is not only a completely different genre (aside from the supernatural), but Nisio Isin's writing is often considered to be in a league of its own.
If you only like it for the fights just leave it at that. I can't remember the last shounen villain I've wanted to see decimated as much as Mahito. I don't love every scene, but at least they defy expectations. And from going by the manga readers it's only going to get better.
Nah they all say Shibuya is peak and I can tell you right now this is the worst peak of Shounen I've ever seen, Fairy Tail has greater highs even. JJK is very much a "if X studio didn't touch it, no one would care" situation similar to Ufotable's take on Demon Slayer. The poor writing and direction leads to consistently uncaring and unattached involvement when anything happens with the majority of the cast.
This comment of yours sealed the deal for me.
When you start going for stuff like: "It's the worst X I've ever seen", "It's just popular because studio Y made it", "Z is a hack, he is not a good writer", you just steered off any sort of constructive criticism you could've given and is just desperately trying to diminish the show in any way possible, you're just going for personal attacks. It's just dishonest and immature. I suppose because you can't accept that JJK is that popular and successful, because it doesn't deserved the praise it gets? I'm not even a fan of JJK and even I criticize its writing and character work, but it did battle shounen justice in alot of ways and is very compact and disgestible, so I can definitely see why it's so beloved, and I'm pretty sure it isn't because of its writing. So what that it got premium treatment? The perfect world would be that every anime got this type of treatment. It's quality stuff that aims exactly at what people that watch it salivate the most.
I seriously fail to see anything fruitful in these types of arguments, just bitter and jealous attacks, the same way the insane AoT fandom went after Isayama's head for ridiculous reasons.
Also, I know you were just answering an earlier comment, but comparing JJK with Monogatari is laughable. They're completely different beasts in their way. It's the same as complaining that Bocchi the Rock has not enough well-choreographed action sequences.
Your arguement would make a lot more sense if the "the constructive" criticism you are talking about was actually taken into account. The fandom explodes either way... though not going to argue more.
DAAAAAAAAMN.... what the hell happened today?! Todo lost his hand, he cosplayed, mohitos new form and Yuji's "I'm you" daaang
oh I like when with 2nd form of mohitos first fight was soundtrack "Self-Embodiment of Perfection", but in different version, I hope they release it soon, cuz I need to listen it!!!!
and of course thanks to animators and ppl with it to doing their job so good even though they have so much problems with mappa
Okay, this ep was kinda nuts. We started off with a wonky continuation of last episode’s battle, then we got an idol intermission feat. Takada, and then Mahito reached his last evolutionary state and we got a one on one dog fight between him and Itadori. To be honest the episode kinda failed to draw me in really, it was a bit weird watching it and while I could now go and pick out things which I liked and disliked, there was just too much happening to really do that purposefully. I will say I think the episode improved after Mahito’s final form though, the action flow was better and more coherent, and less uncanny valley in terms of movement.
The way Itadori ended up agreeing with Mahito and saying it’s his “mission” now to execute curses is interesting. Not necessarily what I expected, the snow imagery is also a cool concept but the execution didn’t make me feel much. Animation-wise, it’s still very ambitious and is executed in varying degrees, but the highs are still extremely impressive. The rotation shot while the domain was active for instance (Takafumi Mitani), or Itadori’s final black flash was great. I am interested in who animated that one, my guess with my extremely limited knowledge is Nozomu Abe because that cut reminds me of him in terms of timing and effects, but it’s probably someone else. Very unlikely that it is him. But it’s frankly the coolest cut I’ve seen in this entire show.
Edit: It's animated by Kaito Tomioka.
Overall this episode left me confused. I think we have something solid to continue from that point on, but as a climax, it wasn’t that good to me. But it technically works, and there are things I like, of course. I got what I asked for last week, so I can't complain about that. I still really wonder though what we could've gotten if the schedule would be better for this season...First time I would say I agree with you in everything you said, even though your ratings still irritate me a little bit but thats just personal preference I guess. I was expecting this episode to be my favourite because it is my favourite moment of the manga. With a better schedule, this Episode and Sukuna vs Mahoraga could have been the best but for me "Premature Death" was the best one so far in the whole anime.
even though your ratings still irritate me a little bit
Well I rate things more unusually I guess because I want to use the entirety of the 0-10 scale well, as explained 6.5 is nowhere near bad though. But yes, it's down to preference.
"Premature Death" was the best one so far in the whole anime.
Premature Death is also my favorite episode! I gave it a 10 even. Sukuna v Mahoraga indeed could've been the episode of the year, but the episode was simply too incomplete sadly.
you gotta let yourself enjoy things more, over analysing just kills it
well, these are just my honest feelings, analyzing it further rarely actually changes my stance/opinion on anything I consume because my watching experience is the most important thing to me. So even if I find flaws through analyzing, I still would say that I nonetheless enjoyed it, if I did. I did overall enjoy this episode, but not that much. I can't force myself to like it more, that would be disgenuine and it would also be no fun.
Again some monkeys losing themselves with a good review.
Welp the line was "surprising"and felt really unbuilt or out of proportion in my case. So I would say you are being generous lol.

Todo's intermission kinda meddled a bit with the build-up to break Itadori and him reaching this conclusion, imo. I still think it's a better way to conclude this arc then Itadori returning to how he was before, so I'm not particularly bothered by it. Could it have been done better? Yes, obviously. The episode in general failed to draw me in because it was switching its tone all the time.
Wow. Just wow. Once again JumpJutstu Kaisen has knocked it out of the park. Animation was beautifully done especially the black flashes, the choreography was superb, the OST knew just the right moments to come in and just the right songs to play. Everything was stunning.
This might go down as my fight of the year 2023.
I also really like how they did the whole snow scene with the wolves and rabbits, no music just the sound of mahito crying and heavy winds.
There's no denying the animation team was struggling in this episode, understandably mind you. Characters didn't even look the same in this episode. That being said, I still enjoyed it. They have been working their asses off, hopefully they can finish off strong for the last 2 episodes of the season.
