Pouting Fern my precious
Another great episode, and judging from the trailer for the next part its gonna be a banger next week! This reminded me of the cour 1 episodes, where the characters in otherwise mundane situations were in the focus. Easily one of the things I adore this series for, especially after the more... raw past few episodes.
Yeah this change of pace was nice to see. The second part is much more action oriented but it's a lot better than the first one especially from what was shown in the trailer.
Madhouse is cooking and it seems like they'll go all in in the action department which was lacking in the manga so that's already a really good sign.
Also Himmel and Serie getting more screentime is always appreciated.
@Taki17
Yeh i agree...
But it also might be because am not a fan of exam arcs myself. Not that they are bad, they are awesome but the info dump is a bit slippery sometimes.
Although it seemed at first glance to be just a transitory episode, in reality Frieren taught us a lot in this episode too, such as that everything is destined to change sooner or later, but not necessarily to get worse, in fact the opposite at times. The Sense test will be very tough but with all these extraordinary magicians, there will definitely be some promoted this time.
Glad Fern is here to make sure we get a slice of life episode and not frieren and stark sleeping all day lol. Her cute pouting magic and soft jabs never fail! Really enjoyed the episode, a nice break before the second test.
Land and ubel hanging out together, that was unexpected but welcomed. We got some nice banter between them. Thry mentioned learning magic through principal or through feel. Im guessing this relates to smarts and talent in the magical world. Ubel is talented enough to pick up magic from people she's empathized with. It's interesting the ubel who has no problem killing people is someone that needs to understand her opponents to grow stronger. Does she do this genuinely with wirbel or out of necessity. She seemed to really relate to wirbel holding on to being human. I'm curious to see if her fight with wirbel has changed her or if she is on the same path as before. For the moment land is very skeptical of her and I'm a bit too.
Is it best to continue the manga after anime?
Personally, I already bought some volumes but I am always reading to "catch up" with the anime. So I am at the exact same point in the manga and anime.
Don't get me wrong, the manga is awesome as well but the animation, music etc. just adds so much to the story that I want to experience it animated for the first time.
As soon as the anime ends I will catch up fully with the manga.
As someone who read the manga first, the anime is a very faithful adaptation, and adds extra to the story. I'd say stick with the anime (as your first experience of the story) for now, then pick up the manga when the anime ends/takes a break. (I'm doing the reverse, making sure I'm ahead in the manga.)
So, yes, but wait a few weeks first :P
That way you'll also get the experience of knowing what's coming on your second time through, particularly in terms of reveals. Which, as a manga reader, I can confirm is very enjoyable in this case ;)
For a less-spoilery example (in that the setup and payoff are both in the anime so if you're in this thread you should be familiar with them), knowing Denken's motivation before the reveal, particularly when he's first introduced and others are going "why now?" about his presence. It doesn't change much but, like the anime as a whole, it adds a little something extra to the experience.
what chapter does the manga start after anime?
I don't think anyone knows for sure yet, since the anime is still airing, but likely somewhere in volume 7 (since that's where the current arc ends).
You could always do what the other person is doing and read the manga up to what the anime has shown so far, and no further, if you want an easier transition from anime to manga afterwards.
I don't think anyone knows for sure yet
but you who has read the manga would know what chapter the anime would end. but if i had to guess, vol 7 = 40+ chapters
I mean, yeah I've read the manga, but I haven't seen the whole anime. Because it's still releasing. :P
Even my guesstimate of approximately volume 7 is based on "well they'll probably finish this arc, right?", because that's likely but not guaranteed. And even if it does, whether or not it'll go into some of the more standalone/episodic chapters afterwards is anyone's guess.
All I can say for sure is that episode 22 (the most recent and the subject of this thread) corresponds to the end of volume 5, and that the first class mage exam arc finishes during volume 7.
