Have you ever scrolled through Netflix or some other streaming site and found an anime you never heard of? You have little to no expectations and decided to watch it because "Why not?" 12 episodes later and you are now craving for more. This has happened to me with The Devil is a Part-Timer.
The Devil is a PartTimer
I was randomly scrolling through VRV and I found this anime. I read the synopsis and decided the watch it. I really enjoyed it and I considered it to be one of my favorite animes of all time. My brother even got the Blu Ray months later because he watched it too and enjoyed it.
For Manga: it's The Girl From the Other Side
The Girl From the Other Side Siil a Rn
I learned about this manga from Barnes and Noble when I was in the manga section. The artwork looked good and I wanted to get. The problem is that I didn't have cash with me so I left it there. It was when I checked the book out at my local library is when I fell in love with it. The art is so beautiful, the characters are interesting, and I'm curious where the story is going. I need to reread it again because I haven't got the most recent volume and I need a refresher.
Where are some anime or manga that took you by surprise in a good way?
Basilisk Kouga Ninpou Chou
When I started watching Basilisk I really didn't know what to expect from it. But I got so hooked that I couldn't stop until I finished it and I was pretty satisfied. I never got bored and never knew what was going to happen next. I enjoyed it like not many anime out there.
I watched Zatch Bell! when it was on air in Cartoon Network (2004~ I believe). A week ago I said to myself: Hey, I actually never knew what was going on in Zatch Bell!!... I'll read the manga, and well, a week later I read 23/33 volumes.
It's not WOW, but it's so incredibly funny that I can't stop reading it.
Monogatari series. Because I thought it would be a trashy harem.
Other than that it would probably be Naruto. I was on Netflix and then saw it on there. I remembered that I used to watch it as a kid so I decided to watch it just for nostalgia or whatever. So that was what got me really into anime at first.
A lot of stuff, Puella Magi Madoka Magica
That one took me by surprise.
KONOSUBA Gods blessing on this wonderful world
This one too, I thought Konosuba was going to be another generic isekai but no.
I was expecting black clover to be mediocre at best, but i was surprised on how good it is. i don't get all the undeserved hate it got, it's a great show
Black Clover
Well, what comes to mind right now is kokoro connect, i was expecting some cringy stuff but it gave me a whole new idea a few episodes in, and it kept me going until i finished it.
Kokoro Connect
From its Wikipedia synopsis, I expected Little Busters
to be some sort of sports anime. Thus, I had 0 faith in it. Most fortunately, the synopsis is far from the truth and the show was an immense pleasure to watch.
Another one is Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio Ars Nova
I wasn't very interested in it because it is mainly a military sci-fi show and I believed I wouldn't like that. However, I had a great time watching it.
