The episode is brilliant, and for me the best of the season. We arrive at the peak, and the story accelerates more and more.
-story: we get MIO's past, her meeting with shinji, the development of her relationship with him, Mana , isaac, elliot... ONLY excellent scenes. We go through different emotional states: happy, cute, sad... . The viewer has no trouble following the events, and we get our first answers about the origin of date a live... For me, this is the best part of DaL !
-Animation: perfect, no flaws this time, even the action scenes were impeccable !
This episode is an incredibly well-timed rebound from the previous episode's... extreme visual problems, which is a pleasing sigh of relief that was desperately needed. I hope they keep this level of quality up and don't go back. No complaints from me this week, very happy with what we got here.
If you are bothered by CG, there is not much of a solution. With a certain budget, using CG is inevitable. This seems to be the best solution they can do for crowded battle scenes.
In these more slice-of-life episodes, there is no need to use CG.
Utilizing CG isn't the problem, it's the quality and application of it. There's a difference between using it to fill a background of filler characters, monsters, or special effects - as opposed to using stiff puppet models for the main cast and central action sequences which turns the fights into essentially a child bashing 2 plastic action figures into each other with only the child's hands edited out. The first half of the previous episode was just that.
I understand Geek Toys' situation and their size, but that doesn't give them a complete bye on criticism for it - simply understanding and some sympathy. I want them to get better (entirely for DAL's sake tbqh) but am justifiably frustrated that they largely aren't. On top of that, while they can't produce decent CG for anything they continue to pickup shows that require them to resort to it and force it in. This isn't a DAL exclusive issue, watch or read through the reviews of most of the other titles they get ahold of; it ain't pretty. Plunderer, Fantasia Sango, and Liar Liar off the top are massive disasters visually. Geek Toys + anything that has action doesn't work together.
