Well that ended fast, and now back to good part, politics <3
Why did Rimuru not tell Hinata to stop and there was a misunderstanding BEFORE he lost belzebub ffs I am so mad
For an anime about high politics, the LEADER doesn't know how to talk when it is needed. He builds a nation, conquers another nation, but still can't say, oooh there may have been a misunderstanding like in a high school romance. Lazy writing just so one fight can happen and even the fight was underwhelming.
The plot is being forced on like a dead horse being kicked. Nothing less than painful to watch considering how great the worldbuilding and natural the plot has felt in previous seasons. Even more painful seeing fanboys fight tooth and nail to defend this garbage when it has been and can be so much better.
Spoiler but
he ends up getting bezlebuth back, probably the next episode actually
IF ITS A SPOILER THEN LABEL IT AS ONE LIKE THIS bro I never asked for spoilers you are the worst
>doesnt want spoilers
>message leads with "spoiler but"
>reads message anyway
>surprised_pikachu.jpg
Are you familiar with the fact people don't read things word for word? It was originally formatted as:
"Spoiler but he ends up getting bezlebuth back, probably the next episode actually"
As someone who has read a lot of manga and watched a lot of anime I would imagine you also scan the whole sentance before actually comprehending what you just read. If not you should try it, its speed reading and makes reading books so much faster.
lmaoo this author can't really make up his mind if he wants to make the characters talk or not
They only talk to yap about the most meaningless, surface level, repeated information. But when it becomes imperative to open your mouth and communicate to prevent conflict? Everyone just becomes vague af and almost exclusively speaks in one liners to force the dead plot forward. Abysmal writing and production this season.
I think we can all agree that this misunderstanding is just straight up the dumbest and most frustrating thing in the anime. I was about to drop if they still delay the fight. However, this fight kinda lack something idk what didnt felt really satisfying tbh.
All misunderstandings are dumb and frustrating. Like literally I say something and somebody misunderstands me, I repeat it, explain, elaborate and that person just refuses to understand me and in the end I just give up only to point out that same thing day or two later when that person finally comes to the same conclusion as what I said before, but then refuses to acknowledge I said anything like that. lol
I didn't remember this scene from the manga
So I went back to see it again and...
You think something awakened within her from that single panel?
(Ah yes btw Hinata, your head is too big could you move it please? We want to take a closer look at that Ms. Knight behind you, and actually Souei you too, move aside for a second, but don't let go of that string mmkay? thank you)
Honestly, the show is slightly losing it's sauce with the last few episodes. I'm usually pretty good at suspending my disbelief, but that's just getting harder and harder. This episode felt like it was directed by a child, we jump from scene to scene too often, and not in a weighty way. Rimuru v. Hinata is supposed to be a clash of dark v. light, two extremely powerful beings duking it out. Rimuru even says he's struggling a little in the fight, but the fight itself isn't animated to feel like there are heavy stakes or immense power. You'd think that with basically all the previous episodes being outsourced meeting animations, that this fight scene would have been really well polished... All it would take is a bigger crater, some more motion blur, better sound effects, and some dust/air VFX to make the sword swings seem more impactful. Not sure what happened to the animating team that did the last two seasons, but we lost something there.
Couple that with the fact that the whole reason for this fight was a result of a poorly written misunderstanding, and we have a recipe for a mid-tier episode. Things aren't going too well right now for this show.
I'm not here to dunk on this anime. Of course I love the anime and it's my favorite show, so I'm hoping they figure out what they need to do. For the most part, the issue is with the production side of things, so I'm hopeful that at the very least we get a turn-around after episode 12, or maybe season 4 will be better assuming this season doesn't kill the show.
...
How much do you wanna bet it's the executives in charge of this mucking things up? Or how Japan's anime industry works?
I swear, I recall that one anime studio who said "nah" to the controversial pay-per-frame model and went with a stable salary model, but unfortunately, they got arson'd by some idiot.
I agree this felt little rushed, but I think the reason is just plainly that they have limited time (air time) and they need to rush story so they get season to end at satisfiable point, and it was decided this fight is not that important, and I agree this fight was pretty much useless but also at a same time necessary.
And I don't agree at all "poorly written", what you would do if foreign military walks to your land, a land who you lead and you're the ruler... That was exactly what saints wanted, and that's why that conspiracy was really good, they make military to walk to enemy country, there isn't really any other than one response in this case and it was to set power levels straight, and fight, any other way to resolve this would have devalued Rimuru and Hinata, as a character, and even more as a leader.
I get that they are on a schedule, but they're handling that schedule as horribly as possible. First, they start the season with 6 whole episodes of meetings. A lot of what they said could have been shortened down to just 3 episodes at most. That would leave more time for this fight, and they'd still be on the same schedule. They are adapting stuff in the light novel that isn't really necessary to adapt, like the conversations haven't been shortened or rewritten at all like they should be, we were basically watching an audio book for 6 weeks. During that time, they are skipping the actually important stuff in the LN. Whoever is writing the adaptation is doing a bad job.
And yes, this fight is poorly written. The concept of the fight happening due to a misunderstanding is a little dumb but not terrible, but the issue is that the dialogue is janky, the fight randomly stops and starts at the whim of whoever is thinking, Hinata's friends vs. rimuru's friends plays out more like a training/sparring match than an actual fight, and the writers are doing gymnastics with their pencils to make the dialogue between Hinata and Rimuru seem believable (and it's not working). When Benimaru and that old knight have that confrontation, the dialogue is just cringeworthy. It's a poor adaptation of the light novel, all the way through.
To be honest, there were a few dialogues that should have been already in season 2, and those were shortened and changed a little who is talking about it.
Don't read if you don't want to get spoiled
So basically there was quite a lengthy dialogue on LN about Angels and, in Anime it was shortened to, "They attack when technology gets too advanced". There is quite a lot of missing in what was in LN, and in LN Rimuru is one to have that dialogue. And there was still skipped whole Tenma War (part of the angel's dialogue), so it's still shortened a lot. But I guess it's important to bring that up already at this point so there is some reasoning behind that Valentine denied Hinatas attack first.
The thing about adaptations is always clunky, personally, I wouldn't even mind if this whole season would be just dialogue and some adventure parts, and even then I don't believe they can catch up with all the things that I see necessary in LN 1-6 (Season 1-2).
Here is some technical ranting about storytelling and how it's adapted in this anime, might be unnecessary but good to know about storytelling.
And if they had shortened those dialogues I would say it would have made on average them worse, they would have destroyed common storytelling structures, pretty much all media follows a few quite common rules of storytelling what was commonly used during those dialogue-heavy episodes is Three Act Structure, Act I: Intro, Act II: Confront and Act III Resolution (you can read more about it here https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/three-act-structure/ ).
This is why LN media adapted always to TV is clunky, LN has different lengths of chapters, but in TV it's always ~24min so adaption has to make modifications to fit the new limitations. And pretty much every scene should follow that rule so it stays compelling and exciting. So individual dialogues and fighting scenes too, that they're following this rule is clear in Rimuru vs Hinata.
There are newer versions of three-act structure storytelling but those I don't have studied, when I was younger I studied the media assistant profession and this storytelling version was prominent and most of the lectures taught me to use this (this was around 2005). But as I now actually read about those other structures they seem to all have Three Act Structure in baseline, and build on top of it, so it might be they use some other but the baseline is the same.
So let's say they have merged two dialogues, and cut half of the dialogue to fit it, they would have lost 50% of the dialogue that characters had and they would also have lost this structure, they would had two separate dialogues so there would not be time to people stop thinking about what happened and how this affects characters.
I wrote before this season a post that was skipped and I think should have been included already in seasons 1-2 https://anilist.co/forum/thread/70090, don't read that if you don't want to get spoiled because it can be that they still bring up some of those in Anime.
I decided not to read LN before this season of anime, so don't have read those yet, decided to go trimmed version (anime) -> full version (LN) so I can enjoy both a lot, so cannot comment on conversations haven't been shortened or rewritten at all.
But yeah it's dumb they fight but in that situation, there is no other option anymore. Even if Hinata (Most likely), Rimuru (Not so likely), or Sage (I would be surprised if she didn't know) understood before already that this was a misunderstanding they knew that this fight was necessary now that military action was taken.
The reason why the fight seems more like sparring than a real fight is just that what they showed, Rimuru buddies are just too strong to even consider them as a threat, this image was enforced with how Shion took 2 "high ranking" crusaders and some mobs alone easily, without even attacking, and no flinging stone is not attacking, I think it was pretty much same result on other fight and that's why they weren't showed at all, basically that was just killing ego of crusaders so they behave, this picture shows something like this was planned all along.
If nothing else I was happy about this moment in Anime, and perhaps best Hinata's character advancement to this point, and I think this will be big part in future.
Yeah, I agree that the dialogue / inner thought during the fight was a little off, to me it seemed that they were cut heavily, this didn't feel at all Fuse writing what is in LN or previous seasons of Anime. Another thing during that fight is that it felt that fight weren't as smooth as we are used to in this series, The animation felt clunky, and parts in the trailer looked good but when they were put together in this it felt like there wasn't that much animation.
I understand the disappointment that the trailer brought, this was shown as high action anime/season but it ended in one episode, especially because previous fight was so high stages, and Hinata used more power this time but was shot down quickly, perhaps this is to show how much stronger Rimuru is now compared to last time.
To be honest, this series isn't about action, I like more tags in LN than in Anime.
Was a bit of a shame the fights with the other knights happened completely offscreen, even if the end result is just more 'Rimuru and gang win easily again'
But yeah, the irony of all that talking and plot building is that this is the one fight they could easily have talked their way out of - at least we got to see Shion being cool for once instead of a clingy comedy character.
Yeah I agree it's shame that fight was short, even thought it seems I don't like action, I like it a lot. And would have preferred if this fight would have at least two episodes overall, and one of them would have been just Rimuru vs Hinata, their power level is just so much higher than rest of the bunch so there could have been some spectacles to see.
Yeah that's nice to see Shion outside of her comical relief character role what she has filled with Gobta
