This anime never misses.
This episode, while being slow-paced was still on the same level as the others, it conveyed perfectly the emotions of both Kafka and his teammates. Annoyingly they always end the episodes with a cliffhanger, I can't wait for next Saturday...
Yea, I really liked it. Liked how everyone doing what they can to help, even if they have no power at all like the shark teeth guy. Can't believe the season's ending already next week. Could have used a good full 24 run, but I know that doesn't happen anymore.
Yeah, it made everything very "real".
Irl, when something bad happens in a group, everyone helps how they can. Here, Shinomoya goes to her father, Izumo-tech guy thinks about asking his father (with whom he isn't in a good relationship with), military guy asks his ex-boss, Reno and Mina reassure Kafka, shark teeth guy tries to reassure his comrades, the vice-captain allows everyone to salute their savior, (who when it comes down to it, sacrificed his life for them). It's just a series of little details, but they sum up to make a good story. Kind of the opposite, of how these types of situations are handled usually in anime.
I too feel like this season should have been 24 episodes long to be honest, I don't know how they are going to round up everything in the next episode...
Some recent animes still go for 24 episodes, this season for example we had Dungeon Meshi, so making kaiju that long wouldn't have been that unusual either.
I like that...I like that I had my expectation subverted...and she (Mina) didn't act like Kafka was a different person...and that she was willing to do everything to help him from the start...a bit naive...but still.
Anime usually act like it's a different person and can't see that the MC obviously was saving everybody.
So I like when anime brake out of the mold and don't do the usual anime bs.
Still not a fan of this series so far...but was a nice thing to see.
Not just Mina, everyone else in the division too. That salute scene was fucking great
No...it wasn't great...and that was just the usual "anime bs".
Mina and Kafka have a much closer relationship than any of the other people.
Besides his "friend" from work...how much time has passed between he first meet these characters?!
Plenty of time. And is it not enough for them to salute after knowing that Kafka saved everyone there? You were just talking about the usual trope where people turn on the MC as soon as he's not human or whatever. Do you like the subversion or is it "anime bs"? It's one or the other.
I already said about the difference between Mina and any other ones.
But yeah...this is nitpicking at a "Demon Slayer" level writing shonen story.
The only difference you mentioned is time spent with him. People can become good friends in a short amount of time, especially when it's with a goofy, out-going person like Kafka.
Was just calling out the contradiction in what you said. You like the subversion where people don't instantly turn on the MC when it's found out he's dangerous. But somehow it doesn't apply to the rest of the division because they're not as close as Mina?
do you like, just watch every show coming out? if you knew it was a shonen, and you know you dont like shonen then why did you start watching it? I'm just wondering, just kind of strange.
My profile is "up do date".
You can see there what I watch and when I watch it.
[Removed]
Sometimes I just watch shows that I know that are below mediocre just to confirm to myself that these shows are just "hype" and nothing more.
ex:
1 . Demon Slayer (I dropped the current Arc cuz I'm not watching Hashira train...not gonna happen...but I say this...I appreciate them training...cuz I didn't buy MC's achievements so far with how little he trained...chosen one or not).
2 . Solo Leveling
3 . Bleach TYBW
4 . Mushoku Tensei Season 2 (The First Season was so good that I just HAVE to still watch it...No way the next season will be worst than Season 2)
5 . Well...I have to watch something...I can't just drop every anime after the first 1-3 episodes.
Yeah, this is the kind of thing I imagined would happen if/when his secret got out, which made people previously saying stuff like "Why doesn't he just tell people his secret?" so confusing to me.
Good episode. I was on the fence about this anime for a while, but I've very much enjoyed these last few episodes.

I was one of those people and I still am. If the characters persecuting Kafka for being a Kaiju (like Shinomiya's father) had the minimal intelligence and critical thinking of any rational human being, they wouldn't try to kill Kafka just for being a Kaiju.
I find it super hard to believe that absolutely no one brought up the fact that Kafka saved EVERYONE from a nuke last episode when there was literally 0 hope of survival if it weren't for him. I find it even weirder that Kafka doesn't even try to defend himself by simply talking and making good arguments (of which he has plenty). Alternatively, Kafka could've easily escaped and just live independently until the public recognises that he's an excellent ally to have.
Yeah, it's a bit weird considering he just saved everyone. At least his division were shocked at first but all still supported him, it's just the higher up who wants him dead, so it makes sense imo.
But I still don't think it would make sense for him to have just outed himself earlier in the series. He needed something like this to prove himself.
The higher up also witnessed the insane save that Kafka did, it's not like they could be ignorant of something that huge (but they literally are ignoring it in this case).
He already proved himself plenty of times before. It just seems that everyone he saves is hit with a memory reset beam and it is never mentioned again.

I think you can compare it to irl racism lmaoo

Ehhhh... You are not putting yourself in their shoes. They already know a Kaiju has previously infiltrated their ranks with the clean up crew and can disguise itself as a human. Kafka could be trying to hide amongst them and pretending to show good will as a long con to a bigger threat for all they know. Mina might know him from childhood, but no one else does.
And even if they just assume good faith and that Kafka is telling the truth and he is on their side, he's literally the strongest Kaiju in history and they have no clue if he's in full control of that. No matter how well trained or in control you think a Polar Bear might be, it can still decapitate you in one swipe if it gets upset for literally any reason. In this case, Kafka could take out a city by accident though.
So it makes perfectly rational sense to be cautious with him and even try to eliminate him because some threats are just too much for any one person to handle themselves. Otherwise do you think it's acceptable to hand to me a nuclear warhead in a good faith assumption that I'll never use it, intentionally or otherwise?
Kafka could be trying to hide amongst them and pretending to show good will as a long con to a bigger threat for all they know.
That's a long shot because Kafka
saved everyone from a nuke (A literal nuke) and multiple other times actually (recall the other episodes, we even see witnesses and the saved ones).
has made 0 casualties or intentional damage to buildings.
has shown 0 signs of threat.
The worst part? No one even hints at the good that he did except Mina who briefly talks about it and it's completely ignored from there on.
Whatever "evil" plan should an "evil" Kafka Kaiju be doing would absolutely not justify Kafka's present actions. Hypothetically, if he played along with the good side when he's actually evil, what's the point?? He already overpowers every human on Earth and everyone witnessed that with the feats that he did.
It doesn't take much imagination to come up with reasons he could be playing the long con. One such reason being we've seen the defense force take out Kaiju nearly as strong as he, so if he was actually a bad actor in this situation, the damage he could cause wouldn't be very extensive by himself if he's outed and the defense force brings down their full capabilities on his ass. Getting in a room with all their upper ranks could potentially be more deadly than letting a nuke wipe out one small division. I could come up with a dozen more reasons, but the point is that the Defense Force doesn't know what his plans are, they just know they've been infiltrated by an intelligent kaiju and one division says they like him, which probably doesn't mean much when evaluating how much damage this Kaiju can potentially do to everyone.
And I will repeat again, even if you assume he's "on your side", there's no law of the universe that says he'll remain on your side or stay in control, in which case you've just let one of the strongest Kaiju in history loose on the population to kill tens of thousands of people potentially because of your negligence and lack of caution.
They do not have the knowledge of Kafka you do as the viewer, even with whatever reports they've been given, they do not know his mindset like you are privy to. Their reactions are pretty damn valid.

What? Kafka's Kaiju has beaten every other Kaiju without a sweat. The only reason he seems to struggle is that he's actively trying to hide from humans, and reduce collateral damage (but when he's serious, there's no contest, the other humanoid Kaiju literally had to escape from the brink of death). I seriously think you're underestimating given that he hasn't even gone full power or full offense against anyone. And he literally destroyed that nuke which no one could destroy on the human side including Mina.
the point is that the Defense Force doesn't know what his plans are
Yeah, that's totally a good reason to kill him with zero interrogation or consideration of any of his actions.
they just know they've been infiltrated by an intelligent kaiju and one division says they like him
What about destroying the nuke that would've killed thousands if not millions of humans? Have they not talked about or acknowledge it at all? Or the other times when he blatantly saved civilians and officers from Kaijus. Do media and news not exist in this world that would report such events (yes, they do exist lol)?
And I will repeat again, even if you assume he's "on your side", there's no law of the universe that says he'll remain on your side or stay in control, in which case you've just let one of the strongest Kaiju in history loose on the population to kill tens of thousands of people potentially because of your negligence and lack of caution.
This applies to literally everything in our known universe. Nothing is certain: that's why we believe in probable evidence. It doesn't make anything certain, but it makes events more probable.
Believing that the Kaiju is doing some sort of con with all this evidence that supports otherwise is crazy. And they literally saw how strong he is. What was their game plan by pointing their pistols at him and arresting him?
They do not have the knowledge of Kafka you do as the viewer, even with whatever reports they've been given, they do not know his mindset like you are privy to. Their reactions are pretty damn valid.
I don't even need a viewer's perspective when thousands of witnesses (including trustworthy officers) can testify the same thing. Hell, even a single video of Kafka's Kaiju saving humans would do the trick.
Even if I give them benefit of the doubt, they still have said absolutely nothing about you're trying to imply. Legit, the only reason they explicitly said was that Kafka has a Kaiju core and nothing else. There's not a single dialogue about his actions or reports of his actions; they just went straight to the killing without a second thought.
while being slow-paced
Honestly I feel like it works in the story's favour that this episode started out so slow. Lets the weight of what happened last episode really land, because so much time is being devoted to the characters feeling that as well. All we (both the audience and the characters) can do is wait and hope, and we're (the audience) given all the time we need to really understand that.
And there's the way it interacts with the fight at the end. Providing contrast so the fight feels more intense, emphasising what's at stake with the fight, gives the fight meaning, etc.
I really liked the smeared/inky lines effect near the end, too. (At the part where the kaiju fully takes over.) Haven't often seen that level/style of stylisation, and it looks really cool here imo.
The cliffhanger is a hell of a place to stop it (but also not particularly surprising; on a narrative level, it's a nice point of tension to drive anticipation up).
So why is Loz from Final Fantasy vii the director instead of being an active unit given how powerful he is?
Who says he isn't? All we seen is one division III in a single part of Japan.
There's a whole other country. And he's definitely active in the command side of things. Even Mina and her Co-Captain don't clear out very insignicant Yoru, they leave it to the lower grunts, they only come out for the big guys, otherwise, they're just taking a backseat and giving orders.
the relationship between kafka and kaiju inside him is clearly inspired by the relationship between Naruto and Kurama.
At the end Naruto did tame Kurama and created a strong link; honestly i just hope than it aint gonna be the exact same path.
Overall, after first 5-6 episodes which were kinda slow and mid, the anime really stepped up and became a solid seasonal. Hype for the end now
