Despite the pacing issues and the garage arc I still found this to be a very fun and unique anime that kept me constantly wanting more and more. Can't wait for season 2 !
GG Blue ranger
Personally I didn't realize we lost as much as the manga readers have been telling me that we have. So I think as an adaptation it's good! I enjoyed it a whole lot and I didn't notice a whole lot of pacing issues except for the super sudden flashback last episode. I'll definitely read the manga though!
The last arc dragged quite a bit, but I enjoyed this way more than I'd expected to anyway! Previous "sentai parodies" didn't manage to grab me, but something about this did for whatever reason. The fact that the main character was both pretty weak and could easily get exposed made it pretty engaging, and did a good job making the rangers feel like a genuine threat...even if their characterization left a bit to be desired. Though I guess I could say that for most of the characters.
Ngl I've been completely unable to give a fuck about the story since Hibiki was replaced by D. Like none at all. The unofficial rangers are bland as fuck, D's goal is imprecise and foggy... For me, the show lost its focus and what made it engaging in the first place. And I sure as hell didn't sign in to see a My Hero Academia ripoff.
I've seen all the manga readers telling us how much we lost and while I can't exactly see what they could've taken away, I definitely can feel it. Prolly the biggest letdown of the season for me unfortunately
I somewhat agree, I don't think the show was the biggest letdown I still enjoyed it to the end but the first half was definitely more interesting.
Regarding D's goal being "imprecise and foggy" I think that's the point even he doesn't know what he wants anymore as he has started developing feelings for some humans.
Agreed with everyone else that the show fell apart after D and Hibiki switched. All the great characters in the first four episodes (Keepers and Suzukiri, primarily) got shuffled for a silly 'exam' that had a nonsense setup, zero suspense, and lame fights that were never going to result in deaths. Oh yeah, and the mini-loser ranger team that D creates didn't have any payoff. I think their key skill was running away? And then that random 'burst' mode weapon with plot-based energy expiration.
Once the Blue Keeper returned, the show found itself again. Even then, the showdown between D and Blue Keeper was nonsense; it's not like D had gotten any better than his Sunday Showdown self. And despite being objectively weaker than all the villains, D hasn't shown any intellect at say, Suzukiri's level.
Sigh. I critique because there was something amazing there.
