Peak fiction, let Goathands cook.
I know a lot of people will clown on the action sequences this episode, but I enjoyed watching GoHands try to work their stuff again (definitely looks better than Hand Shakers so that's an improvement at least!)
Very curious on a lot of aspects of the story like where the Wild Hands come from, and who Renge really is (since knowing these types of shows there will be some secret about her).
Also shoutout to big sister physics.
I didn’t quite understand the concept, but I liked the graphics and the girls are cute. At first, it reminded me of magical girl anime, but then it suddenly felt like a cooking anime. At the same time, it mixes slice-of-life elements with subtle psychological undertones. The pacing is slow, focusing primarily on character introductions rather than plot development. Some of the character designs feel a bit generic, and while the tone is moody, it could benefit from more distinct visual cues that align with the psychological aspects of the story. It’s too early to judge the series as a whole, but Episode 1 does a decent job of setting up the premise, though it leaves room for improvement in both character development and world-building
I hope they'll let the scenes breathe a bit in the future, because that was a looooot of talking, there wasn't probably a second no one was saying anything~
I didn't care much for the first half, but found the second strangely endearing? There's definitely potential here for more, so at the very least, I'm curious where this goes ^^
The second half reminded me a lot of what GoHands did with their adaptation of The Masterful Cat (which makes sense since the same team is working on it). Really hoping that we get some more moments like that
The first five minutes of this episode were so chaotic that I thought I was witnessing ADHD in animation form. A bunch of girls with exaggerated personalities based on stereotypes (gamer girl, stern and serious. mommy type, gyaru etc) spewed a bunch of cringe-worthy dialogue and then went to fight some entity that "erases" humans. Then rest of the episode focuses on other stuff but it was equally unwatchable due to the horrible dialogue. Seriously, who the fuck wrote the script of this anime? Never let that person cook again. Dropped.
Well, after watching that episode, I have no idea what to think really. The girls are cute, sure, but the whole constant talking and overexcited characters just felt rather unnatural, and like the last person said, cringe. But I do like the background plot and wonder where those machine things came from.
I'm gonna watch perhaps another episode or so and then see what happens.
No idea why people dont like GoHands, everything I watched from them was good and different.
Seitokai Yakuindomo, Dekiru Neko and now Momentary Lily.
This episode looked really good and different.
No idea why people dont like GoHands
Because of this. Actually because of the memes, because I doubt any of them actually watched it.
Didn’t really understand the 30 meter tall Fortnite galaxy skin aliens w/ satellite dishes attached to their heads. I kinda felt like this episode was all over the place and didn’t quite know what it wanted to be when introducing the various concepts, characters, and generic themes. As one other person stated, it was a Shonen, and then a slice of life and then a cooking anime… Lot to take in and yet it still felt really boring. Weird to summarize something as feeling slow, that was, in actuality, moving quite fast. Oh well, I suppose we’ll see where it goes. Worse comes to worse I drop it and have more time on my hands to binge Gintama :D
let Goathands cook
They won't, though. I'm already seeing so many L comments and wanna-be comedians (seriously whoever voted 'hand Shakers' to the top of 'Recommendations', you aren't funny). There aren't many Japanese animation studios that I still have respect for these days, but GoHands definitely is one, because they actually listen, and learn from every mistake they've made. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this show.
Opening really surprised me positively and I was really curious, but.. Background just stands out strongly from the characters and "interactactable" objects. During watching I try to focus on everything not just highlighted or important things and in this case, the difference in quality is huge. I definitely prefer overall weaker drawings than focus on one element when abandoning the quality of the rest. Characters just look like they don't belong to rest of the screen. Perspective, proportions, composition, shadows, all this in the case of the background are just bad and does not fit the character. And the fact that there are a lot of static shoots here doesn't help.
Action wise not much was shown, but like in backgrounds case, weapons little stands out in quality. Story is somewhat premising, but if they focus so much on just character and their interaction I wonder if they put enough effort for good written story.
I get it, characters are main sell points, but it not always work and in that case for now it stands out too much, with the consequence that too much of my attention goes to what is wrong.
i hate when people say an anime is bad like this one when its not just because it isn't the over sexualized "hentai" they watch on the regular
This is my 1st Gohands anime, so apologies if I'm complaining about stuff people are very used to in their shows.
The 1st episode was fine. The infamous style works here, but it feels like nothing has breathing room and is moving too much, and there's not a lot of story currently to get me invested.
The camera, in particular, annoyed me because it was just like, okay, the camera has to be always moving for some reason, even in slower scenes, and the clouds have to be moving at like x5 speed, it's offputting.
The weapon designs are very cool though.
the action sequence is like the best part lol but wtf is the rest and wtf is this op? the music in the op is cool i guess but feels so out of place
also cooking in the middle of the show? also the world feel so barren (theres lore reason to that i guess) but like idk how to feel also i feel like the animation style they went with makes the world feel so empty aswell
i feel like the animation style have such a blue color grade to it making it feel empty or sterile and technical instead of cozy if that makes sense. also the buildings are almost all copy paste blue green color to them without much variety which im not a fan of
ill be honest this is my first impression of gohands; visuals are very pretty and mv like; but pacing is off the walls and so is the dialogue.
i just finished it maybe 10 minutes ago and i cannot even tell you what the character's names are other than "Guilty"
So much was thrown at the viewer at once its almost a bit nauseating. curious if itll change in the future however
decent first episode- the animation was very flashy and dynamic, almost a little TOO much, but overall I really like the presentation and how unique it is!! As for the characters, they're very hit or miss. I like the more quiet/softspoken ones, but the "big sister" and the gyaru felt annoying and there was a LOT of talking, like they couldn't give my ears a second to breathe. Still, not the worst thing in the world! I'm gonna give this a few more episodes and see where it goes :)
postmodern anime kino blending self-aware anime antics with prescient science fiction world setting in which humanity is rather obliquely 'displaced' from the world they created, replaced by robotic gestalt while their cities remain pristine... the characters exist in the context of an inquiry as to the relation between man and machine, but also between machine and machine, which are 'good' and which are 'bad' - renge already ponders this notion briefly in episode 1 - wielding weapons named after figures in norse mythology, symbolizing the precipice of human culture, one of its notorious origins, and tasked with destroying the machine beings, the girls assert humanity's collective presence in the world, its refusal to dissipate or be absorbed into AI algorithmic ethos... the thematic content is both apocalyptic and heroic
okay just going off of ep 1 this is Anime For Those Lost In Anime -- aka People Who Don't Need Instruction Manuals kind of thing... super self-aware. let me ramble;
-the group of 5 warriors are overly 'anime' and immediately understandable in their tropes, opposed to both kinds of aliens who have invaded (why have the astral ones claimed the humans, why do the machines want to upkeep the Earth?)
thus need no "communication", no "explanation" to the audience, we understand their roles from their character designs... the same way the aliens have not communicated their motives or what they have done to the humans, the same way the machines do not answer their motives either... isn't it so wonderful to have a walking "put me in a box" characters? no, it's not -- that's why they feel so hollow despite perfectly being describable and database taggable. the danger of falling into non-communication...
-the anime cold opens us not just with subverting our expectations with the screamo opening that still retains cutesy lyrics, but also with the bombastic ALWAYS TALKING dialogue...followed by what is supposed to be our lens into the world renge telling us this is a scary "silent world" for a long time... it doesn't hit because there is no point in action media trying to pretend an apocalypse could ever be "quiet". the violence inherently is loud and bombastic and interesting.
-the CONSTANT talking + constant talking OVER another of the 5 mahou shoujo - the need for the Fantasies (five of them in this show) to help a person who hates the real world. silence means nothing is distracting you from the fact you are currently where you are (will bring this up in a later point)
-"i'm so alone" -> the aliens have taken away all the 'noise' (humans)"... this has obvious AI implications but also may be the POV of a hikkikimori (who thus heavily values fantasy media, "if only these scary, judgemental people of society were gone" kind of thing)... you got your wish, you killed all the scary people, but now you are left with your terrible, lonely self.
-"the self-defense force had their force used against them" = to go off of the hikki theory, this could read as a failure of mental health institutions to help those in need, implying the astral bodies are representations of suicide (or just lethargy and giving up).
-cooking as renge's first "superpower" = aside from being the Main Character (which i would argue is not a slottable trope for her), renge's design does not exactly give way to any immediate "put in a box" attitude like it does for the rest of the girls. her first "superpower" shown BEFORE getting her weapon is also unique in it's non-violent, real existence: it's cooking, MORE SPECIFICALLY, adapting to what you have. this could be a hand reaching out to the viewer; "look around you and see what the cast of these anime girls you love so much value in renge -- it is something you can achieve too"
-"we can't be your friends -- it'd be sad if we vanished"
we can't be your friends -- we (characters) vanish before you all the time. how many more of these shows will you watch until you understand that? because the astrals take those that can't communicate, and fiction will always repeat, stay stagnant, because it isn't alive. the episode you rewatch, while you may get something different out of it each time, will always look the same, be voiced the same way, etc.
got chills at that ending line
also like the person above me said, there are little hints of Apocalypse... hmm
indulgence/10, i am SUPER interested to see if this is just a big ep 1 coincidence and it'll be Whatever from here on out, OR if it'll be the best of the season
This episode was not bad at all, yes i do think there was so much talking and felt like everyone was trying to one up each other, but this first episode was fine. Animation wise this episode looked great. While I wouldn't put Studio Gohands in my top 5 studios, its is definitely overhated. Ngl the vibes this first episode gave me was if the mcs from heaven burns red got an anime, and they turned up everyone's quirks by 10. That opening was basically karen lmao.
