Not so underrated that you haven't heard of them before, Just anime that rlly good and are often overloooked. Unfortunately, I find that the more niche and unpopular you go, the worse shows tend to get. So here's a good middle ground

  Oh. Sorry about that. If ur a big action guy, Vanitas is pretty good. There is an engaging mystery and some rlly great characters. Season 1 was good but I didn't rlly get the hype until season 2. Season 2 is really really good in my opinion.

  ...That's so not true. Sure the bad shows get a bit more common the more niche you go, but there are still a ton of really good, if not outright amazing, shows that are incredibly niche...

  I don't really wanna argue with you. So as someone who has seen a ton of anime, this is just my personal opinion. But the shows that are hugely popular and mainstream are that popular for a reason. You are almost always better off staying within the mainstream because shows the quality of those shows are generally very high quality. While it's true that hidden gems definitely exist, the harsh truth is that most "hidden gems" actually just suck or are mediocre. With niche shows, you will find that great show 1/10x, but with popular shows, you will find that great show 9/10x. At least in my experience

  I'm a bit curious as to the definition of "good" used here. Many of the really popular shows are battle shonen, a genre that is not necessarily the best. Shows Like Kimetsu no Yaiba, for example, don't have a very ellaborate or deep storytelling, but have stellar animation. Most, such as Dragon Ball or Fairy Tail, are rather formulaic too. So, is the term "good" a measurement of storytelling depth and nuance, your personal enjoyment, animation quality, or a mix from all of the above?

I noticed that prior 1995 there's nearly nothing you had seen. So, alot of things that follows are dated before that year. Old but gold as they say. And, probably, many others are films (a lot of films are masterpieces).

damn your list is crazy expansive. i'll just try my best based on a skim. you seem to not watch a lot of typical sol hetero shoujo romance so i'll avoid those. also didn't include any anime others have already recommended. not sure if these are necessarily underrated though. but you seem to enjoy isekais
