It’s finally here

The chase scene was so good

The humour is perfect

Been waiting for so long and it does not disappoint
They were probably going for a District 13 parkour chase scene:
But they dragged that shit on for way, WAY too long after expecting most of us to just ignore him not getting shot in an American prison within the first 5 seconds of him hitting that first CO. ?
They better establish exactly how it is that every human on the planet needed this pain killing drug...most people never even use Aspirin or Acetaminophen in their lives (and the same could be said about penicillin even though we've ruined it by over use, most people have never needed it), what could have possibly be the reason for everyone on the planet being at risk unless it was put into the water supply or aerosolized.
actually good?
not really. its kinda flashy and boring. prolly the most overhyped show of the year. placebo has people going nuts but give it a try and you will see the truth.
Disappointed as I am I have to agree. It has some nice world building, concept behind the plot thus far is arright, OST sounds really good and animation is impressive but... good lord it's also so very juvenile at the same time. Not even mentioning the quality of english voice acting and insanely flat delivery. They don't act. They just speak out loud their lines. It's painful.
basically what I was thinking as well, it has a lot of potential but the episode just felt like one huge flashy chase scene without any real development. I watch in sub so I can't really say anything about the dub but the voice acting was fine for sub. Music and action scenes were pretty well done as well. Given that this is only the first episode, they probably just wanted to lure people in with fancy animation so I'll continue to watch the show as the plot is pretty interesting and the story will most likely also become more interesting.
A pity that there won't be any Japanese audio with official subs for a month after the English premiere. May have to resort to fansubs...
I don't really mind the dub tbh, especially since the story is set in America. No way you dislike it that much that you resort to fansubs, right?
With 95% of dubs something just feels a little bit off. This applies to every language and every medium, not just anime. There‘s very few dubs that feel exactly as good or better than the original.
Also, nobody does fansubs nowadays but they used to be the only and actually superior option 10 years ago. So if they’re done competently i‘d take those over the official subs any day.
that was a wild ride from start to finish. The animation quality is absolutely top-tier — the fight choreography felt so smooth and cinematic, especially that scene on the motorcycle. You can really tell they put a lot of love (and budget) into making everything look sharp and stylish.
Story-wise, I’m definitely intrigued. The whole setup with the miracle cure and the sudden twist around it is giving me serious dystopian vibes. It feels like there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface, and I’m curious to see how deep it goes. Also, I’m loving the soundtrack — it adds a ton of energy to the action scenes.
That final scene hit hard. It’s one of those moments that makes you sit back and go, “Okay, this isn’t just cool visuals, there’s real weight here.” If the series can keep up this momentum, we’re in for something special.
Anyone else getting a Cowboy Bebop meets Blade Runner feel?
The only thing that worries me is that it's just a single cour , I doubt they will be able to tell this grand of a story in 12 episodes
All of this director's work have been 2 cours
I really don't think this is that grand of a story tbh and it's fine. It might be a grand premise but really it just boils down to "find the cure to the drug that will kill everyone". If there's good action and some character development along the way I think it has potential to be a great action focused anime similar to edgerunners.
By grand I did not mean depth , I meant that there are a lot of characters to introduce and go in depth into for just 12 episodes , which means that most of them are gonna be just cardboards that have no depth
And for the directors himself this is also a bigger cast than what he's used to , most shows he worked on have 3 main characters and the rest are all pop-up characters that appear for 1 or multiple episodes
I mean again, just look at Edgerunners. It also had a bunch of characters yet it still worked really well despite it only being 10 episodes, you even gave it a 10. Judging by the cover art it seems like these 5 characters are gonna be the main characters throughout the entire story and I doubt they'll introduce many more in the following episodes.
I can't be the only one who doesn't like this
The colors are boring, the premise is boring, the animation lacks impact. The music is the only thing I liked, so I'll probably just listen to the OST on youtube or something. Kinda disappointed but oh well, at least we got Kowloon this season
"The animation lacks impact" this has no meaning, you're using buzzwords to try and sound knowledgeable
No impact frames, weird use of perspective and CGI that makes the characters look like they're floating when they should be on the ground, the camera darts around so you can't get a good look at whats actually happening. Or are all those "buzzwords" as well?
Nah i think the screenplay was pretty good. Don't think there should be impact frames as it's a chase scene and not a fight scene. Also the only scene where it looks like he floats, they slowed the time to focus in on the jump. Pretty typical for me as a lot of movies do this too so i kind of like this western approach.
Yeah that was so ass. I don't understand why they couldn't release the Japanese dub in the premiere it's like they want it to flop. After watching the English dub, I can confidently say that the dialogue is shit and so is the voice acting and that affected the watching experience.
"how about something.... with a vibe of a man who sold his soul to the devil"
"he just flew away.. like a bird that was let out its cage"
EUUUGHHHHH
The animation and action sequences are cool but honestly who cares when you got the most generic looking one-dimensional set of characters we had in a while (Christine seems alright tho). The music is probably the only thing I can confidently say is good in the anime.
The plot is whatever, "Dr Skinner makes le miracle painkiller 4 years ago BUT plot twist its actually the Humanity Eradicator Pill 9000 a trap set by him so everybody who took it is gonna die now because I guess he didn't like people being dependent on his drug and humanity bad therefore everybody must die instead BUT only if he wins in the most intense hide and seek challenge the world has ever faced. The time limit? 30 days."
This is probably gonna be the biggest flop this season.
tl;dr lazarus is ass watch mission impossible instead
I thought it was amazing, I have no clue why people are complaining tbh. Watanabe's stories were never that deep and instead relied on a fun cast of characters and good world building to work which I think Lazarus managed to show off pretty well in this episode. The animation was absolutely incredible and you could tell that Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick) worked on the action. This seems like it's gonna be an Edgerunners situation to me, where the action and characters are the main focus with a simple premise as the backdrop to keep the plot going and I'm honestly all for it.
After watching the first episode of Lazarus, I couldn't stop thinking about how the drug Hapuna reminded me of another drug from Brave New World called soma. Both drugs are used to keep people happy all the time by removing stress, sadness, and any uncomfortable emotions. In both stories, people rely on these drugs to avoid real feelings and struggles.
What I really liked in Lazarus is that, even in the first episode, they already acknowledge how dangerous this is. The characters point out that if you can’t feel anything good or bad you’re not truly human. That idea is also touched on in Brave New World Revisited, where Aldous Huxley looks back at his novel and explains more about the psychology and meaning behind soma and the world he created.
I'm really into where Lazarus is going with this theme, and I’ll honestly be surprised if what Dr. Skinner said about Hapuna turns out to be false after those 30 days. It’s already setting up a powerful message about how avoiding pain might come at the cost of our humanity.
I honestly thought this was extremely boring. I get that in the current isekai-deluged landscape people are hungry for anything that's not just I Was Reborn In Another World With My Left Arm Replaced With A Firehose, but this just does not hit at all. I don't care about any of these characters and nothing about the story has hooked me at all. Purely replacement-level stuff and I would be shocked if people are still talking about this by the end of the season.
I compare this to something like Cyberpunk 2077 which was another of this, I guess you'd say, scene of anime, and another one I was very skeptical about going in, but that show turned out to be amazing. One of the best of the decade so far I'd say. Obviously this isn't playing the exact same game since this isn't (quite) cyberpunk, but they're in the same field at least, and I compare the first episode of this with the first episode of that and I just don't feel it at all.
