Reading the Manhwa and now having to witness this diashow of fights truly feels frustrating. Since I don't think, that the quality of them will get better in the rest of the season, i hope for an animation studio switch in the next season - if they decide to make one, but probably not. So another big title getting no hype/ love with its adaptation
Honestly wishing for a studio change next season, the rest of the season being different/better is very unlikely. Such a major flop...
while i was simply disappointed by the premiere
this 2nd ep actually tilted me with how badly adapted it was
for real, like every single fighting aspect of the episode was shown as one frame per fight. like common i dont need to be solo leveling type shit but give us something
i could still accept bad animation but they slaughtered the story , turned Arthur to generic "i was lame but somehow i gained op powers" mcs. It is Like studio just wanted to burry the tbate
iirc, arthur (or king grey) never acted with malice. he was meant to be a iron fist leader, not a killer of innocent civilians. as soon as I saw that take place, I dropped it. I was intending on watching it all, even if it was poorly animated, in hopes they'll have a more expendable budget for s2, but this was too much for me. #maketbatesgreatagain
The studio does not give a damn about this IP. The episode was once again outsourced to China and had 5 KA and 5 2nd KA which resulted in absolute abomination of a power point presentation.
The script writing does not make Arthur any better, and I truly do not understand what would be the purpose of adding those backstory snippets in an attempt to give him more depth when it falls flat so heavily. Him being a genocider in the past his case.
This is definitely one for the history books in how to destroy a somewhat beloved IP but my god all the PR talk the author and CR did was truly bullshit it seems. Fans deserved better. Guess I will read the webtoon or novel cuz my god this is atrocious...
I know nothing about the source material (only that was like very popular...like TOP 5 manhwa/LN/web novel).
What I don't like is how much he is changing and how fast...showing how he was in his past life...and now after only 4 years in this new world/life/body he is shown how he already cried 2 times (for "almost" no reason).
Rudeus "King" Grey -rat:
People don't JUST change.
very very sorry for my english
not even close. How can you judge the character growth while knowing nothing of his past? You make assumptions on how he was in his previous life based on a few sentences. He's past life isn't just a cold blooded king. You literally started with i know nothing of source material then talk as if you know how he was in his past life.
I do think, as a manga reader, mushoku speedrun is fairly close to the mark. They took all human elements out of the story to make a plot device of a perfect character. Where Mushoku excelled as a human story with many lessons to take home on reading/watching, tbate is a story of all time. Genuinely nothing worth remembering, and that's impressive
Bro we r soo much cooked.....i mean why Just why.... The animation is worst than any other average fantasy anime.... I mean atleast they should have given it a minimum budget
I can't help but notice the absurdly close similarities with Mushokou Tensei, is the first part a bit plagiarized? I've heard the story deviates afterwards. PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL
In the manga at least, it is not anything close to Mushoku. Mushoku was far better even compared to the manga of tbate. We'll see if the anime is more of a rip though, that scene was sorta in the manga but it was bastardized, just like the rest of the story that I never even liked in the first place. This show is an embarrassment
It has nothing to do with Mushoku Tensei apart from the beginning, so you can sleep thihgt, AT LEAST on a story stand point it's solid
I've read both of them , and even after it starts to deviates it still has similarities with MT , I've read till Arthur came back to dycathen after acquiring Aether and I still find similarities here and there , but that doesn't make it bad , although I enjoyed reading MT way way more , TBATE was still enjoyable
They are completely different stories. Story of Rudeus is about him overcoming his past and becoming a person worthy of respect. It's also very happy-go-lucky filled with slice-of-life moments.
Arthur grows from an infant to a super-saiyan-god-almighty burdened with deciding the fate of the world while remaining an edgy teenager.
While Mushoku Tensei has 6 or 8 "Turning Points" that dramatically change the course of the story, The Beginning Before The End has them at every turn.
mate i wouldn't call Mushoku "Happy-go-lucky" though it certainly has SoL moments it's a much more emotional story then that, one does not simply see a Rudy Donut and think "yeah this show is happy go lucky :3"
Yeah, you are right. I guess it would be more accurate to say that his story is more lighthearted. When it comes to books, Mushoku Tensei has relaxed comedic tone. Rudy doesn't get out unscathed when trouble comes knocking, but he is given plenty of time to recuperate and regain his pervy smirk - even more so after book 15. There is an unwritten promise that things are going to be fine in the end.
The Beginning Before The End is quite the opposite. Arthur has a strong start, and for quite some time it seems that nothing can stand in his way, and then he starts being punished for his hubris. In the second half of his story he has to get strong just to keep up when everything around him is being destroyed. His allies are too weak and fragile, and his enemies are too powerful to face head-on. For every win he gets he has to sacrifice something and be content to live with consequences. And, who knows, he might not get a happy ending.
ah yeah i can get that, i wouldn't quite call Mushoku more lighthearted but more... peaceful? not quite the right word but kind of a positive melancholy vibe, it's slow and slightly melancholic but in a more positive way if that makes sense
But i do get what you mean Mushoku is something that you know he'll make it out even if he has to go through hell to do it but this is more tense and in the air
Is the storyline, is this really anything special?
I mean, I see how bad this adaptation is, but I can't help to wonder.
What really carries this story in other mediums? Is the art in manhwa that good? Is the novel written exceptionally good?
Usually, even when an adaptation is butchered, you can still feel that spark beneath it. I get that it's only two episodes, so we haven't seen shit yet. But I just don't feel it here, and I worry that all of this hype I've heard was purely because of MC's edgy backstory.
Also, I guess that demon at the end will become some sort of master for Arthur?
Imo, it's another solo leveling type show/manga. Nothing of substance, just a brain off action anime with some storytelling/worldbuilding (big grain of salt) elements that are original. Don't come in expecting anything close to Mushoku apart from some cameos like we saw at the start of ep 2, it just isn't even close to that special
Novels have a lot of pacing issues, but there are many exceptionally cool moments throughout the series that make reading them worthwhile. Power fantasy is really the reason to get into the series, but every time Arthur gets stronger there is always somebody to slam him face-first into the pavement, putting his life, friends, and family in mortal danger. On the flip side, remember those people introduced in this episode? No? Doesn't matter, it would be awhile before their names are worth remembering. All due to the unfortunate nature of web novel format - author often makes shit up as he goes.
Honestly, wasn't expecting anything good as a manga reader, but this is atrocious. I knew the story was dogshit so I was expecting a solo leveling treatment, or at least something animated. I mean, every 1-2 chapters is an action panel after all. But then we get story bastardizations that just make it markedly worse on top of the worst animation since bluelock season 2 so quickly after that disasterpiece. Really wish people didn't hype this up, so I wouldn't have wasted my time reading the manga followed by watching this waste of time and resources of a school presentation. I will say it was somewhat interesting seeing the scene directly ripped from mushoku at the start about the mentor talk about but also bastardized again
Really wish people didn't hype this up, so I wouldn't have wasted my time reading the manga followed by watching this waste of time and resources of a school presentation.
If you thought it was that bad, why would you keep reading and why the fuck would you keep watching after seeing the animation is bad as well?
Others hyping something up doesn't mean everyone will like it, you can just stop reading/watching instead of complaining about other people's opinions lmao
Sunk cost fallacy obviously. If you're an anime watcher, you've likely experienced it at some point. I tend to drop shows more now, but not too long ago I would never drop a show. I'm even less likely to drop a show if I think it might get better at some point or if I really care about the property. Even if rezero was an absolute shitshow of an anime, I'd still watch it all the way through, because the ln was that impactful to me. I'm not trying to shit on people who like the property, I'm just frustrated that everyone's time energy and investment was turned to something so abyssmal when I had hopes for something good this season
Sunk cost fallacy obviously. If you're an anime watcher, you've likely experienced it at some point.
Sure, but I wouldn't blame it on others, that was kinda my point.
I can relate to feeling like that in regards to the anime ofc, but the manga?
There is no way it can get much better when it delivered pretty much the same quality on multiple arcs in a row.
The art was kinda bad at first and did get better tho, but that is easier to change than the author's writing style and attention to detail.
I don't dislike the changes they made to the story, giving it a more "serious" style.
The original has more comedic relief. I didn't dislike the information about Arthur's past and his inner monologue either.
But COME ON!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! why?
They didn't even keep the amazing camera work of the original.
In the original during the presentation of the twin horns, they jump on screen one after the other, giving you their personality and traits, then silence and jasmine comes on screen like that, arthur ( and the reader ) are astonished and while the camera is focused on Arthur's surprised face, Helen pops up behind him, introducing jasmine and herself.
THEY LITERALLY JUST HAD TO COPY WHAT WAS ALREADY DONE.
Also, if I wanted to watch a PowerPoint, I would have read the manhwa a second time, since it looks better.
i'm a manwha reader trying to support this work as much as i can, do u think it's worth watching to see if it gets any good fights or do u think i should just call it a lost cause
I would wait for the next episode before deciding.
So far, we have only the introduction, and I think that if we have to make a judgment, it should be on episodes 3 and 4, to see if it's worth it.
I think I'll watch all the episodes since there isn't a lot of stuff coming out this season. But if I get bored, I'll drop it anyway...
Well yes and no. They obviously have to extend the material significantly to get an 20 minute animated episode out of it. And yes its unfortunate that the adaption is so lacking (like the camera work you mentioned), but this is related to the need of having a really skilled staff. Although i dont want to believe they arent commited to the IP or dont care about it (although i dont have an insight into that) and given the studios last projects (or all), they are too inexpierenced for this kind of show.
As far as I remember, the manwha lived from a lot of action scenes, which the studio seemingly cannot handle (hell, they outsourced the damn 2nd episode already, wtf?). As far as I could see, they will rely on cgi and vfx which just dont look good. Even studios with a much higher caliber struggles with this (like mappa in csm in the later episodes for example), which makes me appreciate the works of cgi blending with 2d even more than before.
The story's still got potential, and the idea of a king reincarnating and living life differently is interesting, but the execution's kinda shaky. Some of the animation looked rough — especially that flying scene, lol — and a few folks mentioned the studio switch from the PV to the actual show felt like a downgrade. That said, the characters are starting to grow on people, and there's curiosity about where the plot’s headed.
Basically, it’s not terrible, but it’s not great either.
I'm gonna write this knowing full well people will disagree but the fact is if we don't give it any attention/ viewership then the likelihood of it getting another season from a different studio decreases as the viewers stop watching. As someone whose read the majority of the manhwa and has all the current volumes that are out in physical copies its not even that bad for a studio that doesn't even have 20 projects under their belt. This anime is good in the point of attracting potential new fans and giving even more attention to other manhwa's that could potentially get adaptations. also what's with hating something that has only just released 2 eps, its not even to the good point of the actual story yet and already people trying to get it cancelled. Turtle knows what he's doing so you just have to trust him as fans and not as a board of directors who don't know what's happened/happening behind the scenes.
Partly agreeing, but as you said also disagreeing. First off, yes in the context of the studio itself and their piror experience, its not terrible. However, given that this show has a big following as a IP, the first two episodes are already a no-go in terms of quality, even if they were low priority episodes. Especially the second episode can hardly be called animated since it has that many stills.
I dont know how you can say this show would attract new fans given how poorly it is handled so far? If I havent read the manwha and this quality continues like this, I would probably not touch the manwha (expect if it gets repedeatily recommended to me from friends or so afterwards). This is why I have (and probably never will) read the promised neverland or ex-arm as examples, despite having heard positive stuff about the manga itself.
Although the anime adaptation might attract attention and potential for new adaptions of other manwhas (although i cant really see it with the reception so far), i almost fear more that future manwha adaptations will get the same treatment. And honestly, I would rather prefer to have those shows not animated at all then.
The fact that the studio outsourced the first two episodes (its not bad in itself to outsource an episode like this, but those were unknown chinese studios with 5-7 people working at it as far as i understood) just gives me the feeling that they cannot handle the show. I dont know what the author of the manwha thought by picking this studio himself, I really hope he had good reasons, because for me so far, it looks he cooked himself with this decision.
Dropping. People are complaining about the animation which honestly isn't as bad as they're saying. The story just seems to be bland with a lifeless MC who has no actual thing to over come. He was a king who had godlike power and now he's just getting godlike power again with zero depth.
The animation is horst than people are saying...I mean if you turn down the "animation" even a tiny bit at this point you will just have no animation at all.
Just be honest.
And about the MC...not really but very close. Yeah the kid is way to strong too fast into the story...I mean how bad is the parents party if the 4-5yo kid lost in "fight" against one of them only because of his obvious light body.
And about the MC being "lifeless"...I don't like how he was "lifeless" in the past life but now in only 4-5years we see him cry "all the time" because now he has a family that cares about him.
Lifeless to very emotional speedrun.
So far the only difference that they are trying to show us between his past and the present is the fact that now he has a family.
Probably the story will be showing what someone without parents became and now showing "the same person" becoming "not lifeless" because of the presence of parents...or something like that...i assume.
Obligatory: -Sorry for my english.
I love this series so much, I read the Manhwa three or four times and now I'm seeing this bullshit.
I love turtleme for creating TBATE, but I criticize him a lot for selling his series so cheap to a random studio and director, just because they "read the novel". Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that the anime will do a lot of damage to the entire reputation of the series..
I dont understand why i am watching this peak of mediocracy maybe in hope it improves which seems very far from the truth . People hyped this so much but the studio completely ruined such expectations "Comparable to Solo Leveling" . TBATE is much much better but due to this animation it will never surpass a now average story solo leveling.
As someone who read the manhwa I have to say: This is the biggest disappointment I´ve had watching any anime.
I hope the production of the anime gets stopped and a better studio with a better director does everything from scratch again.
And I hope the anime industry doesn´t repeat this mistake with the orv adaptation.
I recently caught up with the manwa, and tbh I couldn't watch the episodes, if this is the quality for animation at such early stage, I'm honestly not going to watch the upcoming season, where much more lore and power dynamics can be seen, however I would still wait for episodes to stop airing to see the key moments, If they can do justice, I don't wanna spoil, and haven't seen the trailer so, but all those how read they know, first fight scene will determine and the episode after that. I believe that would be the last episode for the season with the reveal and the cliffhanger, so let's hope for the best.
