I thought episodes would be released weekly as usual, but, according to Netflix, all of them are out now. Interesting...

Why would they do a weekly release, when it's not going to be on TV?
Doesnt necessarly have to be weekly, but the point is to build hype, make people talk about it and discuss it without having to watch 8 hours of it, like arcane did 3 episode a week for example.
That is only a trend because of how Reddit pushed it so hard that people started thinking it was the norm.
No? Releasing weekly is the norm for anime or other series. This releasing everything at once is something new that streaming services have introduced. Releasing everything at once kills the hype for a series, the best example of which is JoJo Stone Ocean
If a show is good people will discuss it regardless if it's weekly or not.
So what? Even if they discuss, how long will this discussion last? A month at most.
Weekly episodes keep the discussion going and the preview of the next ones make the hype grow. And all this hype makes other people be encouraged to watch a given anime, like JoJo is particularly strongly based on this phenomenon.
Do you think how many people would even know that this anime exists if it weren't for the memes created by the fandom? I get the impression that you don't understand how much releasing all the episodes at once harms anime in the long run
I have been observing this phenomenon for a long time and almost every series released in this way was quickly forgotten.Pluto wasn't even talked about these days until Crunchyroll put it on their anime of the year picks, and we're talking about the creator of Monster
For Netflix, releasing a twelve episode series weekly opens up the opportunity for people to subscribe for three months in order to keep up with the show. Releasing them all at once allows for people to subscribe for one month, immediately cancel and binge the show in a few days. Either option has its pros and cons
People lose interest in a 12+ week show. Netflix has proven time and time again that the binge model works more than anything else.
Yeah, that's why they keep having to raise subscription prices...
Thats cuz they want more money, every show platform raises prices-even the ones that release weekly only.
It's because they're tried to facilitate constant expansion when there are no more new users to expand to, and their business model relies on marketing and hype for series that will be talked about for two weeks then forgotten for the next big thing so users don't feel like they can drop the service for fear of missing out. It's why they constantly pump out seasons of reality dating shows and market the fuck out of shows like Bridgerton. The reason every other streaming service is raising prices as well is because the entire industry bought into the Netflix model and now it's all collapsing on itself.
It really has proven that the binge model doesn't work that well. It's why pretty much all other streaming services have gone back to the weekly format and Netflix has a reputation for cancelling their shows if they're not immediately popular enough even if they do well. I'm someone who also binge watches shows but it's obviously bad for marketing a show and building up momentum for a show. Netflix did a dump on this one because they honestly don't have faith in it, not saying the show is bad, and are probably planning on it just being the single season or outright cancelling it.
I could only make it to episode 4. This show… does not feel like it was written by an experience show writer because holy shit does it just feel rushed and cobbled together. Every character is incredibly flat and cliché, the group dynamic and drama was developed so horribly I couldn’t find myself caring about any of them. The show just does things and either has a really shallow and unsatisfying explanation or none at all. I do wonder if the idea of a system run by the Sapentia AI maybe being responsible for whatever caste system has the moonfolk revolting gets developed later on in a meaningful way but all of the other problems in this show make it difficult for me to want to proceed at all. Pretty disappointing.
Yep all 18 episodes are out on Netflix, hate when they do this as it completely ruins weekly discussions.
Anyway ignoring that, it was an amazing first episode. I think this will end up a hidden gem this season.
Edit: Finished it finally, started off good but the story goes a bit downhill towards the end. Still think it's worth the watch.
Isn't this that one anime Netflix has been trying to make for years? I remember seeing a trailer ages ago
I saw this article on CBR about the show. It sounds like Netflix didn't promote the show as much as they could/should have according to the producer.
I was expecting a weekly release as well. Like with Ranma and Sakamoto. I like it that way, it made me log in every saturday, and even ended up watching a couple non-anime movies because of it. But every time they release stuff like this, all at once, I end up either taking months to watch it, or simply leaving it incomplete. It's like adding more titles to that "plan to watch" list that never gets done.
Thought they had learned how to go about it by now, but apparently not. Either way, I'll watch it. It's Sci-Fi with Arakawa's design. There's just no way I can ignore it.
by the 4th ep i just couldnt do it any longer. the screenplay is so crazy out of order and all over the place, it really makes this show confusing as heck to watch. like they are trying to throw 4 timeslines at you all at once and its just way to hard to follow. some shows/movies can pull this off but whoever was in charge of screenplay here did a pretty awful job because aside from that, the show looks great, voices are good, and music is good. such a shame.
I don’t feel it’s all that confusing, and further I don’t get many of the critiques i’m seeing. It’s a damn straightforward series, with pleasant characters and an engaging plot.
Though for critiques, I do find most of the characters fairly shallow, the power system and socio-dynamic between the Earth and Moon to be not all too well explored, the occasional plot-point or circumstance not being very well described, and the random time skips a bit jarring…
Of course it’s not without room for critique, but I don’t feel every short story needs these elements full described.
Dis ain't it chief. I'm six episodes in, and this is giving me Seraph of the End vibes, where the pilot is absolutely amazing and gets you hooked, great animation, but the rest of it is flaming hot GARBÁGE. Has the same problem of somehow fumbling a good premise. Phil and Jack's dynamic is also eerily similar to Yuichiro and Mika's, like beat for beat.
To the people who've watched it.
Is it any good ?
I watched the first episode, and found it good.
But later saw the reviews, and now I am confused whether its worth investing time in this or not
It has great animation, cool effects and interesting plot(at the start) but as u go on things start to become more n more confusing and by the end it becomes a mess. Like the characters keep switching sides without any clear motive and they dont explain you what's going on, even after finishing the anime u are left with many questions which remains unanswered. Also the mc is kinda boring he does nothing significant throughout the show. I really tried to understand n piece together what was going on but still many things just doesn't make any sense. It's a shame that it turned out this way instead of a masterpiece it could have been.
