This anime is... well, maybe "chill" is a bit much, but certainly more laidback than I was anticipating from the summary on both this page and the manga's. Not that it's a bad thing though, I've been enjoying myself all the same.
I like that, even though we still don't know 100% about his skill prowess, it does build upon what makes Beryl so special to his past students - I was genuinely taken aback by him being able to handle Lucy's surprised ice boulder drop and just casually toss it away from him, let alone slicing up three in half earlier lol. The dichotomy of that and him being the most humble person alive is rather funny to witness each time.
Did actually skim the manga earlier, and I'm surprised this seems to be adapting the LN straight than incorporating those elements in... or maybe we've just yet to see them in full yet.
