Not a bad episode in itself.

I was expecting to learn about the OG E-Soul's past (facing off Zero from the character PV) and how he came to be a hero but looks like we're getting the storyline of how his successor became E-Soul? I'm a bit disappointed though cause it feels pretty similar to Lin Ling's arc so hopefully the conclusion takes a different direction.

I'm curious why they took the kid and why Shang Chao keeps appearing literally everywhere. Was the whole thing a test? Is he in cahoots with the real E-Soul to find his true successor?

Also wow, having just 1 Trust Value gives you that much of a boost to someone that doesn't. Neon Rain playing in the bg was cool. I hope they release the full version soon.

This episode takes place around 5 years before Lin Ling's arc and the director of the show did say that things will slow down from here so I'm wondering how this is gonna wrap up in 2 episodes or how much they're gonna cover.

p solid episode. it was definitely slower after the breakneck pace of the prior episodes but imma let em cook. i'm worried switching the focus of heroes will kill the momentum of this series but we'll see. if they're goin for like a character based anthology that'd also b interesting

  Same here. It felt more impactful than the previous episodes. And the moment where that 0 becomes 1 felt really powerful! Loved this episode.

The part where Yang Cheng finally gains that 1 point of Trust Value gaves me chills! We off to a really good start with E-Soul's arc so far!

holy fucking peak, this could've been a 1 episode arc and id still be happy, i got goddamn chills watching Yang Cheng get his first trust value beautiful episode man.

The episode is good but it was kinda predictable, sure the moment where he gets his trust point gave me chills but i knew that's how it'll go down.

Also bro fumbled hard when he rejected those tickets from his CRUSH?? like dude ik you wanted to make the first move and all but she gave you a perfect chance so why not take it? I didn't get much outta his character so i don't know how he'll end up blasting moon's brains off but I'm exited.

I hope we get to know more about the world and not individual characters who have the same character journey.

  well, from what I got from this episode, it's kind of obvious that Yang have experienced some heavy trauma since childhood,
  so it makes sense why he's a bit awkward and can't express himself fully!?

I liked the other protagonist more, it was more fun and less cliché. The episode was great, though, the direction, soundtrack, and animation are just insane, same as always.

Focus on the new hero E-Soul
solid intro episode showing how Yang Cheng’s life was already messed up from the start, then gets saved by his idol, E-Soul. His thing with the girl is pretty basic, but his determination and that small power awakening when he tried to save the kid was dope. Kinda curious what’s gonna drive him to do that with Xiao

This show started as rushed and boring, but it's slowly evolving.

Every episode is better than the one before.
Even though some weird Chinese shenanigans remains, it feels like a real story now, and I'm all here for it. Can't wait for the next episode.

  It seems to be Yang, it's his suit the beach e-soul is wearing, not the suit of the original e-soul.

Didn't like this as much but a decent episode if viewed in isolation. I agree with OP that we are getting a repetitive MC - hardworking loser with unrequited love who goes from zero to hero while piggybacking off a more successful hero. Everything was just really corney and cliche. I knew the kid would be the 1 trust value as soon as they showed it was zero. I just kind of hoped E Soul would be the second trust value. Something like "all the contestants in this show embody me, that's why I wear a mask, so many others can follow me to being a hero." then the contestants can get a bunch of trust power off his speech. But nah. Just a genetic "they're looking for you, you're special" at the end.

This show feels very refreshing after the superhero genre has been filled with mass produced stories like Marvel movies. Each episode I think "finally, a real hero story".
