Must say I've really enjoyed these two short stories focused on different hero's, with it all building up the world.
It feels like we've had two origin stories (unless New E-Soul lost?) so I'm hoping Lucky Cyan's arc will differentiate a lot compared to the two previous arcs.
Anyway, this show is treating us so well, it did not need to go as hard as it did this episode but I'm appreciative of what they're giving us. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
As for who won, it must have been Yang Cheng. The E-Soul in that final scene has his height, build and helmet. However, the ambiguity is intentional, especially when you consider that his trust valve combined with that of the old E-Soul. Just like what happened to Lin Ling, from that moment on he was no longer Yang Chang, but E-Soul.
Honestly this episode gave me real Cyberpunk Edgerunners vibes and I'm all for it
Yang is definitely the one who survived here, but I also think that Yang as we knew him is dead. I'm willing to bet that the souls of both versions of E-Soul merged at the climax of the fight. If personalities can be shaped by perception in this world (like Nice and his OCD), what would happen if 2 opposing versions of the same mantle were to fight to the death? They both have really strong fan-bases, each with their own perspectives on what kind of hero E-Soul should be, so what happens if 1 of them dies? I think that the clashing personalities would be implanted into the victor. It’s possible this is an E-Soul with dissociative identity disorder OR they’re nothing more than a dark specter born from the other 2. More unstable, yet easier to control.
