Another amazing episode but this episode also start of their true love story. It might feel similar to Boarding School Juliet but better. We also met the another legendary waifu of this story Subaru. I am pretty excited for the future episodes.

Subaruuuuu
Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku #03
SB/ED: Yamaguchi Satoshi 山口智
Seeing your favorite characters animated and voiced makes them feel real in a way that’s hard to explain. I have so much appreciation for this project. I used to dream about the day we see Subaru animated. Thank god Kaoru Hana exists in this world.
Yamaguchi Satoshi, a veteran animator at CloverWorks, nailed the tone of this episode from start to finish. The strong drawings and crisp close-up shots were flawless. Every emotion came through beautifully, adding real weight to each scene. Without a doubt, this is my favorite episode so far. It’s impressive to see such consistency despite the tight schedule of CloverWorks this season.
this show should be called the fragrant apology blooms with dignity. tspmo
I wish the drama wasn’t so forced. They are all acting like the slightest interaction is the end of the world.
Both sides have been clearly taught by their adults that the other side is something terrible that shouldn't be associated with and you think the majority of kids won't take that shit to heart? It's not forced drama nor is it contextually unbelievable.
yeah.... no.... while yes adults can be influential they are at an age where that's not really the case so much and so far we haven't seen either side acting in a way that justifies those kinds of reactions, only side i can say that makes the hate make a bit of sense is the ways the girls treat the guys from Chidori, they really do seem like stuck up assholes but we don't see WHY they are like that because while the guys from Chidori are a bit rambunctious and hot headed we haven't been shown a single thing that justifies the girls views on the guys, at that age you need experience to pair with being told something for a person to actually make a solid foundation for a view on something, and we don't get that at all
also it is NOT clear that the adults have told them that since the adults haven't said anything of the sort period, neither do they ACT like that in any sort of way, their teacher at Chidori is NOT the kind of guy to go spreading rumours about Kikyo girls and saying otherwise is lunacy, he's just clearly not that kind of guy
I mean Rintaro and his friends aren't the only students from Chidori right? Its a school, and the Men that the Kikyou girls hate are probably the loud minority of men, minority of men that are actually repulsive and disgusting, i know that cause i've been in that situation before. Being in a school with a bunch of disgusting awful people, and being hated and bad eyed and treated like badly by other schools specially the prestigious and private one, because of those people being minority yet loud is painting the other majority that aren't really bad, as bad as them. I also say loud minority because it sometimes be like that. Small group of awful people making the whole school/community be hated isn't really that far fetched now.
And yeah, Subaru treating them like that is indeed childish, treating a group similar to the other shit head because they're on the same group is wrong, and that is her flaw as a character
the issue with that is Rintaro is constantly called the scariest of the school (mostly due to his face more then anything but still), and while yes there are other men there the show does nothing to show us if the other men are anything like the rumors suggest, we see nothing to suggest anybody from Chidori are bad in any way, which is part of the problem
well we all get that, but good storytelling is showing, not guessing
I can bet the girls are just hating because they're from a prestigious school and that's gonna be it, the main characters will show both schools are wrong about each other's prejudice and the girls will all be like 'oh wow the guys aren't that bad after all'
I hope I'm wrong but I can tell it's heading this direction which sucks
What are you talking about, you've been shown TWO separate instances of Shohei himself acting aggravated towards the girls twice now. He's been represented as the most jovial and energetic of the bunch, and even he's aggressive and you think that it's just a girl's side of things and that the girls side doesn't have justifiable reactions? Yes, Kikyo has the worst attitude that has been shown in the anime so far, but my point still stands. The priority of this story is Kaoruko and Rintarou, not Chidori and Kikyo. That setting is a back burner to be experienced through their characters so of course we haven't gotten every single bit of lore about the two schools yet.
As for your other comment, do you really need your hand held and shown little clips of teachers, parents, and staff at either school saying negative things about the other school to make that connection? You think two schools side by side have bred this sort of animosity just from little experiences alone especially when it's assumptions made that one is "rich, smart brats" and the others are "ape like, aggressive morons or delinquents?"
Also I never spoke specifically about Rintarou's homeroom teacher, that man is a saint that must be protected but I'm also not naive enough to believe that two schools fostering this behavior has nothing but good teachers like him in either school.
the thing with Shohei is outside of that one scene with Kaoruko which was his fault and he admits it, the only times he's gotten aggressive were when he was actively being looked down on and antagonized and he rightfully retaliates, should he just ignore them and move on? probably but it's understandable he reacts the way he does
The issue with not being shown clips of stuff is that your being TOLD not SHOWN something, it's rule #1 of storytelling "show don't tell" for a reason, for example here we haven't been shown or hell, we haven't even been TOLD a single reason to justify each schools views on each other, not once do we see or hear about anything that makes this feud make any sort of sense, because of this everything is too nonsensical, just feels like a lazy shoehorned issue to create drama, now if we had just had some offhanded comments of some situations that happened it would be better but not as good as showing it because when you just TELL an audience something it's harder for a person to wrap their head around a thing they can't physically see and experience themselves because there are a lot of factors potentially missing from something only being described, if you SHOW them it then a person can very easily register the situation and fully understand what's happening, after all humans are visual learners, that's why show don't tell is a rule for a reason
while you could argue that this doesn't really matter i will argue that it does and that not knowing a valid reason why the schools are at adds negatively impacts the viewers ability to get immersed with the story vastly, i can't really take the drama of this show seriously when it's so ridiculous and nonsensical that it just feels stupid, like i LOVE Subaru and you literally watching her realize what she's doing wrong live through her facial expressions, but it's hard to take that seriously when i have no idea why the hell she'd even act that way towards them in the first place
People just dropping it only after 3 eps clearly is not giving it a chance
I always drop anime after 2-3 episodes when I don't like them. That's actually pretty normal. Yes of course sometimes you can miss good stuff because of it but if the general direction and vibe isn't for you even after 3 episodes - there's SO much stuff out these days it can't be helped.
I get where you’re coming from, but sometimes it’s because there’s so much anime out there that giving a show more time to breathe can be worth it. Some of the best series don’t hit their stride until episode 4 or 5 — or they deliberately start slow to build something meaningful. If you drop everything early, you might miss out on stories that actually reward patience. Not saying you have to force yourself through stuff you hate, but sometimes a bit of persistence pays off big time.
Absolutely. I had this with a work colleague recently. He watches A LOT and he dropped "Once Upon a Witch's Death" I think after 2 episodes and for me it was one of the best shows last season together with "Rock is a Lady's Modesty" (which he binge watched and loved with a 9/10). I told him he missed out on "Once Upon a Witch's Death" but if you watch so much and have a HUGE list I understand him too just having to be more agressive here. It can't be helped. Thing is you are getting bombarded these days with new shows. When I started watching anime more seriously over 20 years ago it wasn't that bad and to me there was more stand out shows than these days.
Man I'm glad they take their time with the show, but I wonder how much they are going to adapt (with aditional seasons). The Manga becomes even more pretty dialogue heavy later and we just covered 4 of 157 chapters so far. When I read the manga I was grinning almost every chapter like a little schoolgirl - it's so adorable.
But I love the adaptation - it's just perfect. The background music remids me a lot of the Blue Box adaptation like every MC has his memorable track. Yes the romance is cheesy, over the fluff a lot (especially later) and slow, but Kaouri is the perfect girly girl. No artifical drama and the characters actually talk about most stuff. If you do not like it do not force yourself to watch it. It's all fluff.
I had my fair share of complaints for the first two episodes, but I'm glad we're past all the weird stuff already. I like everyone, and it's really fun to watch once they just start treating it as a normal romance. It really felt like it could use some build up in the first two episodes, setting stuff better so it wouldn't feel rushed with a million gaps between their relationship that just doesn't make sense at face value, but now that the "intro" is finally done, it's as fun to watch as any other good romance. I like how comfy it is, and I also like how Rintarou is opening up a bit (though still feels a little too fast, but I appreciate that he gave up on a lot of the dumb stuff from before). Looking forward to the next one.
Edit: just a small point to clarify, when I say "so it wouldn't feel rushed", I'm talking generally about the story, whether the adaptation is faithful or not. If it's the same in the manga, my complaint is for both. If they cut stuff up in the anime that adds context in the manga, they dropped the ball. You get it.
this show motivates me to finish the manga (dropped because of laziness, but i loved what i had read so far)
i feel like the pacing of the show is just so slow that things that end up getting resolved later just take so long... but thats mainly because i need to wait a whole week for utter PEAK to release. I'm still absolutely ecstatic this is finally getting an adaptation, and it has got me grinning so much.
