Default List Order

Is there a reason why you can only choose among these 4 options when picking a default list order?

When viewing your list you have way more options for criteria to sort by. Why isn't it possible to set your list to be sorted by completed date, for example?

Huh, guess I never had this issue because of how I watch anime. Last added was actually the main reason I switched to this site, considering MAL not having it is what made me ruin my list.

This, I would definitely choose "completed date" as my default sorting option for my list. Please add! It already exists on the list page.

  Yes, agreed! This is also how I would like to sort my list by default.
  
  I currently sort by "last updated", but it's so annoying when I go back to adjust the score I gave a completed anime, and it bumps it up to the top of my list. sorting by "completed date" by default would be much more useful in my case.

Weird how you have more sort options on the list page, yet can't set all of them as a default sorting option. Wonder why that is.

  Probably because the settings for default order were added when those were the only options, and they were not updated when the list filtering got more advanced.

So, consider a long anime like One Piece compared to a short anime like death note....being 10 episodes behind in one piece is much less significant as a percentage compared to death note...progress as a percentage wouldn't really be reliable....number of episodes wouldn't really be reliable either...

Just random thoughts no conclusions

  I prefer progress because its like the top priority and more satisfying to see the most watched first.. Idk why not many other people use it though :[

  If you go to settings -> lists -> default list orders there you will find a list of 4 options which are Score, Title, Last Updated and Last Added. Progress simply doesnt exist there.

  Sorting your list(s) by release date (that is chronological order) does not seem to be an available option in the Default List Order options in Lists Settings when it reasonably should be, considering the seasonal release schedule of most anime. Several of the other options to sort your lists found on the respective list pages should also be implemented.

  As someone who has moved from MyAnimeList to AniList, the Completed Date option is one of the best for sorting my list. Making this as a default would be great as it technically is already within the system itself, just needs to be added within the list of default list orders in settings.

there is an option to turn it from completed date order

go to your list and on the side bar, when you scroll down, there should be a drop menu for ways to sort your list and completed date should be there

  This thread is about adding that as a default sort option, not a manual selection.
  An example would be to enter a list of someone random with their default sort set to Completed Date in settings. Upon entering their list, it’ll automatically display shows based on when they have been completed.

  it will never happen lol, its a personal preference after all so if u want it a different way just use the manual selection

  The thing is it doesn’t save my selection of Completed Date and resets to whatever I had put in settings (which doesn’t have that option)

I made a thread about exactly this a while back https://anilist.co/forum/thread/16121 so I completely agree this should be a thing. Someone (who I think used to be a mod) said this idea has been passed to the dev team so I just hope it’s gonna happen soon fingers crossed

I agree to this. It would be nice if there is an option to do so or at least make the site remember the selection in the list.

  If you just want to be able to do it, you can use a certain firefox extension for anilist that people aren't allowed to name on this site, which adds the option. Would be nice for everyone to have, though.

It would be cool that how when u complete an anime it auto enters the date, but I want it for when u add an anime to watching it should also add the date. (sorta off topic just giving something for 'site feedback')

  When I go to Settings > Lists > Default List Order, I only see four options: Score, Title, Last Updated and Last Added.

  Under Profile > Settings > Lists, there are only four options for default list order, but on the actual list you can sort by start/completed date, average score, etc. etc.

Yep, but I'd say this is more of a feature request than a bug. Meanwhile, there are third party addons that can do this.

over 6 years later and they still haven't done it. it would genuinely take them less than 5 minutes to implement.
