This shot looked so cool I wish they wouldn't change the artstyle every few seconds.
When was the last time we saw him kill something?
The fight had some pretty cool scenes ngl.
I think the worst part is how inconsistent everything is. You go from: Decent shot, powerpoint, rare great shot, unfinished, goofy looking, low framerate, decent scene... And so on.
Still probably the best episode so far.I think I’ll be switching to the manga now. This episode could’ve been incredibly hype but is clearly being dragged down with below average animation this season. I’ve seen some of the manga’s artwork and it doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment; this is one of the most anticipated action anime of all time and it was given a time and budget worse than most seasonal isekai slop.
Anyone know what chapter to continue at?
Just why? WHY???
Why would they cut parts like this that are supposed to make even the minion monsters threatening to even Garou and express exactly how much more of a problem the whole Monster invasion is.

Oh.
I really dislike how they showed the wall being destroyed in the anime but they didn't showed how it got destroyed.
This happened in that episode with the people in "costumes"...one had a cut on his face (I assumed that it was from the girl whip...but was from the ripper guy in the manga)
Oh well...at least this episode was better than the other 4 combined...and we didn't even get the opening (not a good opening)
Damn, I was expecting this episode to be kinda dogwater but I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Yeah it isn't "madhouse" (the OPM season 1 animators even tho it wasn't really madhouse) quality, but it was generally far better than some of what people were expecting. If this becomes the minimum output going forward I would actually be fine with that. People acting like this a blue lock or beserk level fumble confuse me!
I still dont understand how JC staff can make great fluid animations like Danmachi has, but completely suck when it comes to OPM 3. Is OPM3 just a quick cashgrab, riding on the OPM name? or did they put their worst animators on this project because the best animators are busy on other projects? Who knows. All i know is that when this season is over, i wont remember 1 single fight lol.
This was the worst episode, because of its potential of being amazing, past 4 episodes were sh*t but I was like it's set up, but now that they are starting fights and still butchering them with terrible pacing, storyboarding, stupid creative liberty makes it the worst, also as much as I can remember this art style they decided to change into is supposed to help animators to focus less on character proportion and more on fluidity, but where is it, I picked manga in last week after 4th episode, the dog fight and orochi fight was getting me pumped without music and va but here there's no impact of anything, this is too sad that they can't even touch second season quality, first is in heaven's distance for them now.
i hope the animation gets better and better as the episodes go on.... But fr the fan animation was better..

The animation pipeline for Danmachi is different from OPM 3. The animation producer and his contacts that are known for Danmachi and Railgun are working on Mugen Gacha this season.
different teams and it's a schedule issue but as the director said before closing his twitter account that he's doing what he can to make it work somehow also he did say he's letting action storyboarders within the studio to do the important episodes as he admitted that he isn't skilled with action storyboarding himself
I don't think he specifically said he would let them handle action storyboard, moreso he just said the action parts he leaves to the experts discretion. Like with ep 2 he stated the episode director and the animators are allowed to adjust his boards (which he initially made). I do expect Nagai to board the entire season, because the schedule is so bad he's the only one who's fast enough to rush them out as quick as possible.
@Kaito67 don't think he said that in episode directors' part only and getting a little help won't do any harm as the studio have other fast storyboarders besides him
I mean we don't know the rest of the episodes yet, but the fact he boarded everything, including the action-heavy Orochi & Rover fight, so far, is telling. There were a lot people like you who expected this episode to have another storyboarder, and it didn't.
Nagai's SBs aren't good either. They're just copy and paste manga panels, they're rushed and churned out even for his standards. But even then the team doesn't have enough time to finish these episodes properly.
Imagine if another storyboarder is on board and takes a bit longer for the storyboard, thus, production on that episode can't start immediately. The polish would be even worse.
Honestly this episode was awesome, I agree with you that it kept shifting from good quality to bad quality. But overall I really enjoyed the flight between Garou and Orochi, I just wish JC Staff had a high er budget with more resources at their disposal it would have definitely been an even better episode.
When they set the bar so low anything is better.........the only nice animated frame sequence is the orochi laser and nothing else. The punch afterwards was really bad with 0 impact. At this point I really think there is no reason to watch this unless you are a bin OPM fan and even then it is insulting to the fans and the mangaka.
Finally got out of bed and watched this and all I can say is that at least it's better than the last ones.. Which isn't saying a lot. It can't be an animator thing at this point because the animation itself isn't really the issue in this one so much as the way it's paced and the way the shots are forced to be done. When garou is talking to gyogyo his lines are literally instantly delivered with no pause or way for music to swell when he does anything. He's instantly forced through fights and a section that could've easily lasted the entire episode. I kept asking myself what I could possibly see the issue being and it just has to be the director. It has to be the direction in some way because there is no way they sat the animators down and they left so many things out, on top of the fact that the animators don't really have a say in how long their scenes will be. That must be why it feels so inconsistent, they have a bunch of animators who's works are different from each other working on scenes that are usually just too short even for the way that this episode should've been done if it was meant to get everything out of the way quickly, maybe that's copium, I'm just disappointed.

The answer is just time. Nagai (the series director) is an experienced & fast storyboarder, but the storyboards so far (which also dictate the duration for each cut, etc.) have been very poor which is probably due to the fact he has to rush them out wayy too quickly. He's also been the only storyboarder (did all 5 episodes) because it seems there's no one else who can do it that fast.
The episode directors are all competent as well... A lack of a minimum amount of time to complete these episodes is just a problem that is impossible to overcome. The staff believe it or not is competent.
