Hey there.
I just wanted to ask you if you could differentiate the Score Board for animes a bit more.
First thing I'd like to see added is a split of score-boards into a "male" and "female" score board for every anime (maybe a third "divers" scoreboard to not aggro the Karens).
Second I would like the ability to swap between "overall score" and "specific score". And under specific score there should be like maybe 3 different categories (not too much...it should stay simple): "Story-Score", "Visuals Score" (containing Picture Quality, Detail Quality, Animation Quality), "Sound and Music Score". (i know some people write those specific scores in their reviews...so why not formalize them)
Sometimes i feel like the overall score right now is completetely inflated in the one way or the other, but when i discuss those animes with my friends they usually agree to my criticism of a "too high" or "too low" overall score.
For example i would absolutely like to see the different scores of male and female audiences on animes like "Frieren", "Secret of the Silent Witch" but also on maybe lesser known ones like "Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash", "Teogonia".
An option to sort the scores by age-groups would also be nice to have but not that much important I guess...maybe a "below age 25 score" and "above age 25 score" would be cool.
I know that such changes would create a lot of work for you but I really think it could improve the user experience on this site so everyone can focus on the scores most important to them.
Second I would like the ability to swap between "overall score" and "specific score"
If you're talking about average score vs. mean score, the average score is needed so smaller works watched by a few dozen people can't end up at the top of the ranking. The mean score might be useful to judge lesser-known works but is rather meaningless when comparing thousands of entries at once.
And under specific score there should be like maybe 3 different categories (not too much...it should stay simple): "Story-Score", "Visuals Score" (containing Picture Quality, Detail Quality, Animation Quality), "Sound and Music Score". (i know some people write those specific scores in their reviews...so why not formalize them)
There is an option to rate entries as a combination of individual scores, see the advanced scoring system in the settings. But those categories are a meaningless distinction, and I don't see a world where we force everyone to vote in them.
To address your main suggestion... No, we won't split the average & mean score depending on the gender or age of the user who's rating the entry. Even if we wanted to, which I can guarantee you is not the case, we aren't going to collect that information from 3+ million people.
maybe a third "divers" [non-binary] scoreboard to not aggro the Karens
fuck off
Ok. I just thought i would get better suggestions for me personaly if i can sort e.g. the "trending" list by an audience-score that represents me and others would profit in the same way.
The results of a list "trending among males" might differ from a list "trending among females".
And with the advanced score...it is useless if it's just for yourself in your own personal list. But maybe I can put it correctly: I dont want that people are forced to give an advanced score. If they dont want to score its fine and if they just want a simple score its fine. But you have the advanced score option already, as you said.
I simply want the option to see a summary of all the advanced scores when i look into a new anime here on the site to get a better impression of what i can expect to get. E.G. i put story way above visuals, so there might be animes that have a low average rating because of bad visuals despite their story being well written.
Right now the score is not used in a way others could get anything from it. The advanced score is hidden to the user itself that did the scoring. And therefore there is no real reason to even fill out the advanced score in the first place. Which also is the reason you will not find any advanced scores in my own list right now.
Right now the score is not used in a way others could get anything from it
Even with your suggestions, that won't change. Whether something is generally liked or not, even if the sample is taken from the same demographic as you, is never a guarantee you will think close to the same about it.
therefore there is no real reason to even fill out the advanced score in the first place.
To calculate a score from potentially wildly different scores for the different aspects?
The advanced scores on others' lists can also be viewed through a userscript on browers, and through some apps, since they aren't actually private data, there's just no way to access it natively.
But since the categories can be whatever is relevant to that person it's absolutely impossible to coalesce them into an average.
Maybe just be more open minded, it's not because something has a more dominant male or female audience that you won't like it or that it's bad. Try and look more at yourself and think about what exactly you like and dislike and be more critical of yourself, it'll help you choose anime/manga in the long run. There's nothing wrong with admiting to yourself you value a fast pace/action/comedy/certain art style/... more than something else and just keeping to that if you notice you don't like for example slow pace/mystery/certain art style/... If you are more aware to what you like, something being female or male oriented shouldn't matter anymore, because then you should be able to watch a trailer/look at the tags/read the description/... and figure out whether or not it's more likely you'll enjoy something.
Imagining how a scoreboard like that would work sounds like a nightmare in practicality... and adding "to not aggro the Karens" was not necessary -_-
It's way too convoluted to have a ranking system based on individual aspects that not everyone rates on.
Right now the score is not used in a way others could get anything from it. The advanced score is hidden to the user itself that did the scoring. And therefore there is no real reason to even fill out the advanced score in the first place.
If you want others to "gain" something from your ratings, have you tried putting your advanced scores/rating criteria in your notes so that other people can see it?
If you're interested in something similar, anidb has that under "Vote Statistics" - this one is from Silent Witch

I want to note, you can actually see someone's advanced score if you put their list on this view option
Edit: somehow it was still after effect from script I turned off/removed a couple weeks ago, so you need a script for this, my apologies
It might be a nice option though to be able to see this on different list styles though or such.
I can't see the screenshot (how many times must I point out imgur's no good anymore >.<) which list view is it because as far as I know none of them have that feature?
Thats super weird ! Maybe you're region blocked by imgur or something or do you use a vpn ? Its top right corner the middle option the one with the small dots on the left and the long lines on the right, next to it is the bigger dots with normal length lines and then the other side the 4 squares, so middle option and then if someone uses advanced score system, hover over the dollar signs.
Maybe you're region blocked by imgur or something or do you use a vpn
Not the point. But it's a block from imgur's side and it was already a kinda bad host before, so it's bugging me that people are still using it everywhere... as I said I am tired of pointing out how it's no good.
hover over the dollar signs.
...There are none.
Compared to the script I had for this purpose (works on any style, by hovering over the score) that one seems overly convoluted...
I think that graphs from AniDB you linked are pretty decent. I am not registered on that site so i think i can't see them? Tried to follow your link to the Silent Witch to look it up myself and then maybe some others. But anyway thanks i didnt know about that site before.
And about the Karens ye sorry i guess i just watched Asmongold way too often it felt like i kinda have to write it. Was a bit over the top. Im sorry for that.
