This episode was a turning point in the protagonist’s journey. Now that her mother apparently left a spell imbued with her mana within the princess, she is able to save both herself and her father from the dark magic of the malicious sorcerer who attacked them. Up to that point, everything works well—perhaps a bit fantastical and somewhat broken, so to speak—but the foundations of this episode trace back to the very beginning of the anime itself, so I do see a certain logical sense in all the background and justification that were provided.
That said, I still believe the magical abilities went on sabbatical. Apparently, Athanasia and her mother are beings capable of changing fate, which is why it is dangerous for them to roam freely without restraining their powers (this being the reason why, in Athanasia’s main timeline, she is powerless and devoid of magical abilities).
Overall, the anime has been quite good—acceptable within its genre and visually very appealing. However, it is evident that in the later episodes they relied more on static and less detailed images, only to later dazzle the viewer with large-scale special effects, which works fine for me.
What truly leaves us intrigued for now is how the story will continue. Since this is an ONA, there is a chance the project will go on and we may get a second season, with new interesting plotlines and various conflict resolutions. What most strongly hooks the audience into waiting for that second season is the cliffhanger of Claude having lost his memories, along with Lucas’s departure, which causes emotional instability in the protagonist.
