Ikoku Nikki #02:
"Wrap"
Storyboard/Episode Director: Ryouko Nakano 中野涼子
I agree, the writing feels elegant and tight in a way where every part matters. Take one thing out, and it all collapses. A strong episode after that excellent opening episode last week. Also, Kensuke Ushio’s score is so damn good.
I really liked how the "adult talk" came off as pure nonsense to Asa, enough for her to picture herself in Arabian Nights lol. That awkward gap when people talk past you feels painfully relatable. Daigo’s visit was fun. She is energetic and cheerful, and Makio seems to enjoy having her around. That apartment really needed someone like her to cut through the awkwardness and save Asa from that food routine hell lol
Kasamachi is cool. Being a fan of Makio’s novels and her asking him, even as an ex, for money shows they still trust and care about each other. I also agree with the point about Makio always escaping when she gets worried or emotionally cornered. Once again, we're reminded that words can cut deeper than any weapon. Her sister’s words are still eating her up from the inside....
I am glad Asa is starting to open up and show more emotion around Makio. Them bonding and opening up to each other will come with time. Still, you can only move forward by coming to terms with the past and facing it head-on. Though I wonder how Asa remembers her mom, we see in that flashback that her mom seems kind, but whenever we see her from Makio’s POV, she feels like the opposite. Jealous of Makio's success as an author, maybe?
Btw, the stills for episode #03 are up on the anime website if anyone wants to check them out!

@Diprivan wait what do you mean "1 hour special premiere"?
