Good ep
Ngl, I didn't even expect Yuki to start liking Blonde all of a sudden. One minute ur on demon timing, but instead ur on angel timing.
Even the beast never arrived to the hiding spot, which is kinda funny.
Double wielding??
Not surprised that Brown hair died. Literally did nothing, but run her mouth.
Didn't expect Blonde to apologize...
Whatever drug that they hit Brown with was strong asl, like her whole body is gone.
9/10
It astonishes me how supsenseful the whole show is despite being so slow with lingering frames and sequence of Mishiro slowly walking towards the screen but it just works. I would say that in comparison to the first game this felt more deliberate and players could have figured out the rules before it was too late. Even audience would not have given any thought to their clothes but a veteran like Yuki can easily tell all is important.
These games or rather the structure of the story seems to mimic the social behaviours that are employed by people and an allegory to group project may be used here. The one that lost was the only person that did absolutely nothing other than jumping from one person to another when needed but that is unfilfilling in both the silly project and real life so she was exiled.
This game felt deliberately crafted to showcase what Mishiro lacks and to illustrate Yuki's philosophy. The leader needs to not only be able to make a path for others to follow but it can't simply walk over their bodies to victory. In that situation she would not only lose trust but the project or anything would either be half-baked or simply uninished and that's a no go in society. So she deserved that humbling.
Well onwards to the next game!
I would have been surprised that Chie was the one to die, except that question narrowed it down a lot.. Wasn't surprised at all that Yuki submitted her vote by leaving it to random chance after they asked if you could submit multiple votes, it definitely fits her. Funny enough it was the first question I thought to ask too, was a little happy it got asked lol.
I'm interested in seeing if Mishiro becomes something of a recurring "antagonist" though that's probably the wrong way to put it. Maybe calling her some kind of rival is better. Either way, it'd be interesting to see how Yuki would deal with playing the game with the same player multiple times given that they'd have some understanding of how she is ahead of time.
My only complain is them cutting Chie's cursing.
She completely loses her mind.
The art is really suffering the more episodes we get... I wish they never used lineart in the closeups because it somehow looks cheaper than the lineless far shots. The color grading could've been tightened up so much more on the voting room, the scenes where the frames lagged like it was a dream sequence near the end also felt really cheap.
Fully agreed, the director tried getting as much out from DEEN but they're simply not up to the game. The dream sequence was painful to watch, and because of the detailless long shots I had no idea what happened after Yuki and blonde's conversation. I was waiting for a closer shot for a good minute.
I really want to get immersed in the story but the QUALITY(tm) starts being too distracting.
i mean... not really? it very much comes across as an artistic decision and done to be different and more fun, which sure you can say is dumb to do or whatever but being a bit artsy and different with stuff is nice, like the crash out scene at the end was really fun with how it was animated like that, would it be nice to see her kicking and screaming and punching in high frame rate? sure i suppose but the dreamy nature of it was quite fun especially considering it was a dark moment contrasted by a dreamy artsy choice and upbeat music
I'm not saying that they should ditch the dreamy nature entirely, I'm saying that they should enhance it further so that it wouldn't look as awkward as it did. If you know the show Twinkle Nora Rock Me, the dream sequence was really close to resembling that in my eyes - it just wasn't polished enough. Considering how amazing the first episode looked, I know that this show could do so much better.
Filtered. The art direction is fantastic
The art direction is great, but the studio struggles with realizing it, not to mention that parts of that direction seem to be tailored to avoid DEEN's quality problems. This episode has some visible deficiencies (like in one scene a character isn't moving in the direction she's walking) and it's very distracting. The long shots lacking details are a great choice, but scenes have to be wisely storyboarded around it, or else you'll leave the viewer confused (like I mentioned about the beginning of episode 4).
Art should not distract you from the story, it should boost it. Again, I really like the art direction, but animation quality is going down.
I figured it would be Chie because she's the one we've seen least of, she was just kinda there.
Another very atmospheric episode, though it did strike me a bit odd how it just skipped Chie's death scene entirely.
Also while they seem to be trying to keep it weirdly family friendly (/china friendly) with the cotton wool blood censor (at least there is an explanation) but it did amuse me how yeah Chie clearly popped and oop no blood whatsoever her whole body turned fluff xD
After they complete the games, there was agents, they rushing seek their own player, it seem the agent like some kind promoter(?)... Like in boxing sport right?....
They seem to have at least some relationship, considering the reaction from Chie's. Yuki's also had gray hair, I wonder about that
They seem to be Family/Guardians and Friends, or the butler in Mishiro's case, which is absolutely messed up but also makes a lot of sense, i mean i don't see why else Chie's agent would be so damn torn up about it, she was desperately trying to claw her back together so i would assume that's her mom and Yuki's agent also seems to be related to her because of having the same hair
They're not related, the girls are just recruited by agents. The fondness is just from the time a girl spends with their agent, in the manga Yuuki's agent says that despite everything the agents are always rooting for their girls. They also completely changed the character of Mishiro's agent, she's a twin-tailed smaller girl who sweet-talked Mishiro into joining the games in the manga version, so no relation, just an aim to recruit and manage the girls' games and transport.
Damn ngl I thought Keito was the one who was gonna die. I was also thinking that yuki would vote for herself since no one would vote for her, but putting all four names and leaving it to chance was neat.
Honestly I was surprised that Yuki said she developed affection for mishiro, but thinking about it, I can kinda see it. How I intrepreted it was that with these two games we've seen, Yuki has the philosophy that the best way to win these games is to have everyone alive and work together, and if they is any sacrifices needed to be made, try to be as impartial until its necessary, as we seen with the weight problem and with this voting section. But with everyone needed to work together, it presents the sheep and herder situation, where there is one leader and the rest are sheeps just following, we see this motif throughout this arc with how yuki and mishiro "fights". But as we see, yuki is the better leader. Mishiro was pissed at yuki for dominating her, but yuki didn't care about that, she only cared about the game, so she gave the choice to a damaged mishiro. Either you can die here or follow her, like kotoha chose. But instead mishiro denied her and ran still trying to get to the end. Yuki found affection for her for how even though she still wants to win the game, she won't reject her own agency in order to win. The other three girls were sheep, all willing to follow and praise the leader that was present. But not mishiro, she wouldn't sacrifice her pride. I know that sounds contradictory, but I believe thats the point. Two things can be true, you have to work together to win, as well as leaders are those who have agency, not those who just blindy follow and accept.
Does anyone know what the numbers mean? It's not something in the manga and I haven't read the LN
It's how the LN structures it's "chapters" normally a new chapter would be a new page but instead it's split into numbered sections of various amounts.
Volume 1 starts with (this is a direct quote from the LN it's 1st few lines):
01/33
"Yuki Awoke in an unfamiliar bed"
02/33
"The matress seemed large enough to fit 5 people..."
03/33, 04/33 etc.
Interestingly, the 2nd part of the first volume was skipped over for another game, which somewhat follows how the LN does things with it's non-liner story.
a wee bit surprised that Chie died but tbf it was her or that other girl white haired girl, and that gas is crazy, made her frickin explode
that crash out at the end was so fun and i liked the dream like direction and the upbeat music, made it even more fun
now about the agents... pretty sure that just revealed that the agents for the characters are they're legal guardians / parents, i just think that Mishiro had their butler pick her up, but the fact that Yuki's looks a lot like her and the way Chie's agent reacted i am 99% sure this is the case, which is messed up but makes sense that the parents would be the ones representing the participants, but MAN, thinking about that HURTS, i mean the way Chie's mom (i assume) was desperately trying to claw her daughter back together HURTS, also makes you wonder how Kinko's agents reacted when they arrived on set to see their daughter dead RIGHT at the end while her killer walked out right next to them
i am SO excited for what's next
What's with the forced [REDACTED]? Like it didn't even make sense, out of nowhere MC is like "i love her". Bro what? Way to ruin the show, ntm Mishiro probably gonna come back later, hated her character. Was this even supposed to be yuri??
It's not, but in these games affection towards other players is common, that's how they end up in mentor-disciple relationships. I won't spoil it but this is only setting it up so that you see the growth of Mishiro when you next see her, going from something Yuuki sees as a "princess" type who only knows how to be feisty and sit on her throne to someone who can hold their own and even having surpassed Yuuki in ways without her or us ever noticing.
The fact that the agents are attached to their girls hurts my heart. Poor Chie's agent... nothing but her clothes and ribbon left, not even a trace of her existing left otherwise.
It's crazy though because Chie majorly crashed out knowing she was going to be the one to die in the manga, interesting that they'd cut out that part (and changed it so it wasn't just a poison gas, but a drug that fully reduces them to preservation treatment, did she just pop??).
