[Spoilers] Medalist 2nd Season - Episode 2 Discussion
Same, dude... Same...
So many great performances in this episode, it was a joy to watch! I couldn't help but clap with the characters :'D
These girls have some real guts and they all did great! Getting back on their feet and delivering the best they can do like real champs.

The montage with number 2 to 5 performances was really well done, the switch between characters built tension really well.
And we didn't even reach Inori's part yet! She's been properly refueling for her performance so I'm sure she'll be okay :-D
That dude felt so rude when we first saw him but I love how he just roamed around, handing flower bouquets, playing the part of the Prince Charming and giving our girls the applause they deserve.
Blondie wanted to go home at first but she sure got into it <3

Normally I don't follow Medalist threads, but I had to for this episode.
This world is cruel indeed.....
It's too bad that you can't see the dialogue in your screenshots, because this part illustrated so well one of the obstacles that a lot of people have to succeeding at the highest levels of sport, which is nearby access to proper training facilities.
Quite a skate-heavy episode, but seems like ENGI prepared for it. Though I feel like some 3DCG are a bit janky, thanks to Jukki Hanada's script, the climax of many scenes hit me anyway. Sure the medalist anime can't compete with gorgeous art in the manga, but I think they adapt those key moments very well. A very good episode overall I would say.
Next episode we will see another key player, Yagi Yuuna. Not gonna spoil how she is but I really look forward to it :)
What a strong episode. I rooted for everyone, jumped in joy, got anxious and cried. I love it when a show can get me this investetd. Love this Anime so much.
Edit: And the CG looks even better than the first season.
It really has improved, feels a lot less 3D - and omg how they actually drew out so much of the movement, honestly props to the studio
I finally understood the rules of figure skating; they were explained very well. Manaba did a great job of not giving up when it seemed over, and she deservedly took the top spot in the rankings. But all the athletes were fantastic, and they're very young; they'll have many more opportunities!
My eyes were glued to the screen. So many beautiful performances. The transitions between the 4 girls were smooth.
Those two eating banana and doing monkey dances was funny.
Oh and the last performance was captivating. The girl for sure knew how to put all the eyes on her.
That montage of the four girls skating was so well-executed. It was amazing that they did that instead of completely timeskipping performances.
Minor detail regarding the bouquets for the two Meikoh Wind competitors:
- Rinna Sarukawa (申川 りんな) got a bouquet with a monkey couple, because the 'saru' (申) Kanji in her family name is 'monkey' in Japanese. (This Kanji variant is commonly used in the context of the 12 animal zodiac, rather than the actual animal itself)
- Yotsuha Ushikawa (牛川 四葉) got a bouquet with a cow couple, because the 'ushi (牛) Kanji in her family name is 'cow' in Japanese.
Great episode great performances i also like how they glaze Hikaru being the best in their age-group. Also the CG improved a lot by S1 standards (S1 CG was still great btw.) We have yet to see Inori's turn which she will crush obviously (or probably cause this World is Cruel.) Also it's funny how that guy is giving everyone flower bouquets to cheer them up. Also didn't expect to get the basic rules of skating which i forgot already but well i'm here the witness this peak of a show so it's okay if i don't understand rules i guess. Overall great episode as usual next week is gonna be inori's turn which i can't wait to see.
