Judgeman is crazy.
Man. Just... man. Sometimes this anime hits you in the guts with brutal force.
It was obvious Judgeman was gonna go for the throat, that Itadori would immediately admit his guiltiness and that Higuruma would, in the end, let him live and win.
And yet it almost moved me to tears.
The fight, of course, was absolutely incredible, the animation jaw dropping. Makes me laugh to remember the sheer disappointment I felt with the chaotic powerpoint of the first episodes LOL
This episode encapsulated my 2 favorite things about this show. Thrilling action that goes beyond what has been done. Emotional expressions/dialogue that make the fights MATTER. Just using Yuji as an example, all the conflict he faces wouldnt me moving me this much if it wasn't for how good a character he is. Shout out his Voice Actor, the voice combined with the expressions (especially that Panel) left me so damn sad.
Man, I waited so long for the last two episodes, HIMguruma finally makes his entrance!
On a side note, many manga or LNs are adapted each season and I haven't seen them all, but I think MAPPA this time exceeded itself and every other adaptation that preceded it. The amount of love poured into this season is overwhelming, I am so grateful to them for this amazing experience.
I won't lie, I don't really care for jjk that much, it never really has wowed me as compared to other major popular anime, but this episode was beautiful to say the least. Honestly my favorite episode of the series. Besides the fluid and breath-taking fight choreography, what really made this episode stand out for me was the somberness of Higuruma. Higuruma is a reflection of those who enter the penal/ordinance system with true beliefs that they will be able to help the people and make the world a better place, but the scorns of corruption, deception, and the failure of the system to actually help those who not guilty, for so long is so mentally destructive.
Like Higuruma said in the flashback last episode, "Why do you look at me like that?" Higuruma did everything he could, and he got the staff person to be cleared in the first trial, but with how Japan's court system worked, he was totally screwed in the 2nd trial. It wasn't about trying to do the right thing and the rules of the court. What happened in the first trial was basically a courtesy call for the defendant before still getting convicted. It didn't matter even though he should've been absolved of his charges. We all seen the headlines of japan's 99% conviction cases. It is a sad reality of Japan not a lot of people talk about.
Higuruma's power is such a reflection of anger towards this messed up system. But as we see throughout this episode, his domain's weakness is the one aspect he had forgotten. It is that when a person is on trial, they are not judged by a set of rules, but rather they are judged by their fellow humans to determine whether they should be convicted of their crimes. It's such a cathartic moment for Higuruma losing the sword right before striking Itadori. He knew that Itadori was not guilty of the disaster in Shibuya, it was all sukuna, he knew that sukuna took over his body, Kitadori was not in control of all. Yet, itadori without flinching admitted guilt. And Judgeman still declared him guilty, because even if it's not the whole truth. On face value, it was true that itadori was responsible for shibuya. And that is the realization Higuruma had, that while yes, the penal system has plenty of flaws, but as humans, we cannot forget to communicate with each other and try to learn about each other without making haste judgments. Him turning off the sword was a direct contradiction to the start of the episode "If people just told the truth, we wouldn't need trial", but as we see, the truth isn't as simple.
From the lighting, to the camera angles of Higuruma between the fight and in the flashback conversation, this was such a somber moment about human judgement, and more importantly, both the strength and guilt it takes to pass judgement. This was a great episode!
Yuji admitting to his guilt has to be one of the strongest moments in JJK, back when I read the manga it really made me speechless for a couple of minutes, it shows Yuji's regret and sorrow about what Sukuna did to countless innocent lives, knowing he wasn't strong enough to prevent it. It also confronts Higuruma with something he thought he would never see in a human, especially in a court setting, and that is pure honesty, he knew under law Yuji was innocent, yet Yuji's admission to his guilt was entirely perplexing to him as he was always just confronted with the corrupted part of humanity that is infested with lies.
This episode did one of the best moments of JJK justice and even though I have some qualms with the later parts of JJK (specifically the ending), I can't do anything aside from tipping my non-existing hat to Gege for this and also of course the team that brought this to life in anime format, bravo!
Amazing ep
First ep to get a 10 from me for this cour, huh.
Itadori is such a goof, lol.
In such a short time, Higuruma proves to be such a great character thru his actions and backstory.
The chase down was breathtaking and even when Itadori was sneaking around, it felt like I was with him.
Oooh, they throwing hands.
Bro sent the gavel back??
I'm ngl, narrating over a fight is actually annoying, tho it's not that deep.
Always amazed by how free and open that Itadori is to using what's around him along with his carefully planned actions to feint his enemies as he fights.
Judgeman creepy asl.
At the end, Itadori was too innocent and too real for Higuruma to actually execute him, showing how well written Itadori is becoming as he shows his character growth and the realization of his inherent actions in Shibuya thru Sukuna.
I be forgetting Higuruma's kogane got a mustache, haha.
Ig yall know the the origin of this meme now.
Really enjoyed this fight more in the anime than the manga.
This ep adapted the rest of ch 164, 165-166, and the first 4 pages of 167.
10/10

what in the cinema ;_; not only did it look stellar, the fight was narratively beautiful. it seems we won't be seeing more of higuruma though and i'm devastated
funny, i thought the whole thing will be itadori trying to outsmart higuruma's jojo stand, but the guy was actually a super fighter with that hammer
That episode was totally awesome I straight up loved the action scenes. Higuruma's domain and technique was interesting, I'm sorry but after "Who's Gojo?" Itadori was not surviving that one. But it's sad to see that he's still guilty about Sukuna taking over his body and I guess that is what this season is all about which we can see with the change in tone. Higuruma leaving now seems like a shame but being a lawyer I guess he's doing what is right for him, otherwise his guilt will probably get the better of him. That episode was totally awesome I really can't wait to watch the next episode!
I thought this episode was pretty solid. The only complaints I had were about the music used during the fight between Higuruma and Itadori with the executioner's sword; I couldn't get emotionally invested because I found the music with the "lalalala" a bit too goofy. My other small complaint is just that I wish they had shown that panel with the bodies of the judge and the prosecutor that they showed in the manga.
Finally JJK is cooking. The last two episodes were great, pacing wise as well. That hand-to-hand combat between Higuruma and Itadori was so freaking good. I love it when hand to hand combat gets all the attention it deserves. As someone who likes big blasts and beams, I would have such fights over all that
