My issue with these last 2 games is that they introduce the whole world and idea of the game then out of nowhere its ... OHHH CRAZY KILLING SPREE NO ONE IS ALIVE NOW and its just like.... Huh? what was even the actual point of the game itself if its just going to devolve into a massive massacre and most participants are gone outside of Yuki and the villain for the arc? I just find it boring personally.
In general I think this game is better then the last arc but idk man. I really just don't know.
Pretty close to my thoughts. I thought things were a lot more interesting and thrilling when there weren't 'antagonists' in the games. These games that are just purely about player versus player violence aren't particularly great. They lack the thriller aspect that the earlier games had where you weren't sure when or how someone might die. Also the fact that we didn't even see how her master lost is pretty stupid given the hype the character had based on game count.
I also didn't see the point in the huge amount of time invested in Moegi if she was going to be so weak. I'm all for building up characters but even with all of her backstory I couldn't bring myself to care about her. It just felt like her existence burnt a lot of time that could have been spent on characters that might be more interesting.
Yeah, I have to agree, the first game we got shown was actually interesting because it showed us the actual Saw like death game aspect of these games, but now it's just relentless slaughter with a final showdown between randomly shuffled antagonist B vs Yuki, I mean it would at least be cool if we got actually well choreographed fights a la Wind Breaker or something, but no, it's just...whatever this is. It almost feels like the artistic execution is wasted here
Nice ep
Calm training by the master and student.
Redhead's intentions were so obvious.
Yuki put BTA on Moegi. Kinda surprised that she fell for that weak ass trick.
Kyara got to be a spawn of the devil or sum. The way she's killing Yuki's friends is literally inhumane.
Really wonder how Yuki will beat her.
8.5/10
This was an interesting episode to say the least. Cus the whole focus is really on how yuki and moegi are parallels of each other and how each other tried to deal with the mental anguish of these death games. It was clear the Moegi wouldn't be able to beat Yuki. Yuki has the skills and talent, even in a 100 retrials, Moegi would lose all 100. But whats interesting is the psychie of both of them and how both of them had something the other person needed. We see in these last 2 episodes that Moegi tried to become someone worthy of kyara, she tried and struggled in all of her flashbacks. The key point here is that even though Moegi wasn't good enough, she gave a straightfoward attempt and didn't hesitate. We see this in yuki's post monologue about Moegi after killing her. Moegi was weak, but she had the mental fortitude to handle these games.
As a reminder this is another flashback game for Yuki, but yuki is the opposite, she has the innate talent, but mentally shes much weaker. In that monologue we hear the Yuki's internal struggle and how the mental decay of these death games are getting to her and she relies on the techniques taught by her master and the other girl to stay calm. This arc, while it does have some big critiques, does a good job showcasing that this game is the leadup to our current yuki. The last episode will be very interesting to see. I hope we get a s2, the artisitic direction for this anime has been soo good.
Also idk if they explained if, but does the corpses just melt into cotton or is kyara ripping some of these girls bodies apart? Cus god damn you can see their ribcages fully out.
I gotta disagree with the first few comments. The main point of this story has always been Yuki, not the games. The games are just the vehicle taking us through the things Yuki has to deal with. I have no problem with some of the games building something and then chaos breaking loose because of a deranged individual as would happen. This isn't like Squid Games where the story uses the MC as the vehicle to show us how these games corrupt people and we see what they're capable of. We're here to see what Yuki deals with and how she gets out of these things.
Once again, the sound design in this anime is everything. They're just adding so much atmosphere to stuff I've read and making it feel heavier. The one bird's call as we see Kyara sitting like Thanos next to the senpai's body
We're here to see what Yuki deals with and how she gets out of these things.
Certainly for the first few episodes it was a great thriller for this reason. This episode in particular, a whole backstory just for Yuki to basically treat Moegi as a joke. I'm not feeling any tension at all from this or the previous episodes.
Agreed. The first 2 escape room type games were good. But ever since introducing antagonist the show has fallen off. My biggest problem being they pad the run time with lots of inner monologue and flashbacks then I get excited when they about to start some big fight or war just for next episode to skip everything then show more inner monologues and flashbacks. Like episode 7. What happened to Azuma and the others girls? Obviously they died but why invest me in these characters and have them die in between episodes. Now i just see the final battle. Episode 10 does the same skips what Kyara did to everyone and we only see Yuki take out Moegi setting up another final battle. Also yeah Kyara threw a smoke bomb but how does she still kill that many girls alone. Show me something. Not to mention Kyara kills Yuki's veteran death game mentor and her friend. Just showing them dead is annoying and kills the emotional weight of it imo especially with how emotionless yuki usually is. I loved this show going in but the way it leaves off what feel like should've been big moments annoy me to no end
