For those still wondering why the animation looks different every week and seems almost allergic to consistency, the author (HEY) confirmed it himself: no CAD overseeing the project, every AD given full creative latitude with their episode. The goal is for every episode to feel distinct, the kind of show where ten people watch it and walk away with ten different favorite episodes. Also, I got my confirmation on why Botan's hairstyle looked so familiar, and of course it's Arcueid lol
Skipped Awajima this season since I already read the manga earlier this year, which means I missed Ginsan's episode yesterday despite hearing nothing but great things about it. Good thing he's on Botan's episode this week, so his idiosyncratic vision still gets its due. You can easily tell that everyone working on this project is genuinely enjoying themselves to the fullest. Last week leaned into a strong Yama no Susume / DIY vibe, this one is mono #04 in both body and soul.

Konno Taiki eye candy eyecatches again. I can't wait to collect them all and have them rotate as my desktop background.

A shaft-esque episode on display.
A gorgeous moment shared between Botan and Aakne.
A cat, and Botan with ice cream. Life is good.
Also, Akane vibing to vinyl records vs Ibuki’s massive forehead. Who wins?

I won’t tolerate any more bullying of my girl Gunjo. Botan gets a pass just for that smug face though lol.

Again, Louvre-worthy work on display by Aninari for this week’s ED. Just a quick heads-up:
you can order his artwork for this show, mainly the key visuals, as canvas prints (or canvas minis) from the Aniplex shop.

Obviously hard to say for sure at this point, but this may end up being my favorite episode. The sloppy art style worked really well. I want to see what this AD can do for their first full series.
mono episode 4 (where Ginsan was AD) didn't feel as different like this one, so I'm loving the decision to not have a CAD in this series.
