TBH for me it was the Layout, I Like Looking at A Nice Dark Mode Site, Instead The 2004 Roblox Game Page, The Forums and The Community Are Much More Accessible And Interactive, And Less Toxic
Feels more like a community than MAL ever did. Met some cool people here. Additionally, Submissions are actually being looked at instead of being ignored forever, and I can actually find all the Manga I'm reading on AL.
I can actually find all the Manga I'm reading on AL.
This. So much good manga was never on MAL because of ??? reasons. I also love that AL seems to include more than exclsuively Japanese-based manga/anime, which was something I hated about MAL; if it wasn't exclsuively from Japan, it was for filthy gaijin and wasn't allowed on MAL. AL handles this so much better
@Ace66062 bullied me into signing up
but also anilist just feels a lot more social and a lot more welcoming, the few people I did interact with on MAL were very elitist about pretty much everything. Otherwise the platforms are almost identical for my experiences, but I like being able to have more than 10 favourite shows/characters
I chose Kitsu instead of AL during the MALpocalypse, probably because I didn't take enough time to explore AL properly. After Kitsu exploded around March I think, I settled here as a last resort but I fell in love with the social features, the possibilities for really pretty profiles and omfg this place has MANHUA?! I really regret not settling here immediately after the MAL purge.
Have been in AL for a couple of months and so far liking it. My biggest problem with MAL Is the we design, the lack of modernization and improvement. I like AL style, some nice apps available, like the stats and easy of use. Still looking for an easy way to identify where to watch series (streaming service) I noticed some actually say CR when available.
I shifted because of the issue with MAL (was it a year or two ago?). AL always adds new content on here that i'm able to track. But the thing that makes me stay is the wide spectrum of webtoons they allow on here. On MAL unless it was a Japanese webtoon (or was officially translated into Japanese), there were no webtoons on there at all.
at first it was just a backup for MAL 'cause MAL was out for like... MONTHS.
but then i grew to love anilist, the design, the ability to make lists, the rating system, the review system (though i still dislike that it only accepts 2k+ reviews lol)... plus, it is indeed WAAAAAY less toxic. i've only seen nice people here, so far!
i love it here <3
Originally it was because the MAL app (the one that now supports Anilist.) lost contact with MAL. I needed a new site as a backup so I Anilist was the second best choice. Originally it was gonna be a backup site but the longer I stayed, the more I liked the site more.I love the simple, organized, and clean layout. Much more easier to navigate, and I love all the stat stuff. The community is also a little less toxic as well and it's easier to post things.
Honestly, the format of this site is much better then MALs, plus the community seems to be better (while smaller in size, but I'd say that its a good thing in a way)
does anyone actually have data regarding user base sizes on anilist, MAL, and kitsu? would love to see that tbh
Number of Anilist users (source: Anilist site stats): 314,401 users
Number of MyAnimeList users (source: Forum statistics on forum page): 6,369,982 users
Wanted to use an anime/manga list service again, googled what options the community favors the most, turns it MAL was still for many the way to go with anilist on second place before kitsu, decided to take a look at anilist, discovered dark mode and many other great things about it and here we are.
I actually love this site already, especially how easy it is to contribute to the database!
