Do you prefer anime Subbed or Dubbed? (sub vs dub)

Never go dubbed, I've tried it countless times but it just goes against my rating system, which is based on the original content. It's not the show's fault it sucks if the off-synced dubs ruin it.

What kind of question is this? Dubbed stuff sucks >.<

Subbed! However, there are a few anime that I prefer the english dub for, particularly series that I grew up watching.

I used to watch anime dubbed. After like my 11th one I started watching subbed. I'll watch the dubbed version of old anime that aired on Toonami like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, and FLCL. Those are some of the exceptions.

Subbed. But if I have to use dubbed, then the mute button comes in handy.

It really depends on personal choice.

I personally prefer subbed as it stays original as how the producer intended it to be.
one of the reasons is for example, watching deep meaning anime reference like Gintama where they use a lot of Japanese jokes that rhymes with different, words and characters definitions (Kanji) then understanding the joke intended.

with dubbed... it changes all of that, the whole intention of the jokes will be dull, because of how it's translated to English.

I like to keep things original as possible, that way, I can understand the anime as how the director wanted it to be portrayed to the audiences.

RAW is preferable even if you DO NOT UNDERSTAND the language.
But as far as SUB VERSUS DUB, it DEPENDS: one is not UNIVERSALLY better than the OTHER.
EVEN if you DO NOT like dubs, you MUST concede that they are PART of "anime culture" and a GOOD dub is LAUDABLE.

99% subbed

In my experience, it's all about the anime rather than it just being subbed/dubbed being better. A few examples I'll list here being Spice & Wolf, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, and Desert Punk. They were great shows and I feel that the english dub was in some ways better than the original japanese dub.

Always subbed. If somebody tells me that the dubbed version to a particular show is better, I assume they are mad and try not to anger them in fear for my own safety.

Yeah. I been using subs for almost all the anime I have ever watched, so I definitely am biased towards it. So yeah, mostly sub. The only dubbed shows I have watched are those from my childhood, you know, things like Pokemon and the original Yu-Gi-Oh, and certain things that just have to be listened to in English (Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon to name a few). I actually prefer the dubs over the subs for the original Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon, but that cause I grew up with those.

For me, the first language I listen a fair bit in is what I prefer, so I always go with subs as that is what almost all shows, especially those airing are in. Plus, many times dubs just seem like the dialogue is a bit forced, and at many times really awkwardly executed, and that is more of a script translation issue then an acting one usually, owing to the fact that Japanese is at many times quite different from English with certain things, and many times you just do not get it sounding the same.
Some things just do not translate well enough, or have an as effective equivalence. Take that from someone trying to learn the language. For example, Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden generally ends her sentences with the 'desu' coupla, and try finding an equivalent of that in English and have it sound the same. It is hard as it generally means "is", but is used as a polite ending as well in Japanese. Though I will say Funimation always seems to do a decent job.

Definitely subbed. Rare series has a good dub, and the others just make me rip my hair off.
Plus I find Japanese language nicer than English, even though I don't understand anything.

Subbed all the way. Dubbing butchers everything in an anime. Pokemon, DBZ and anime I used to watch as a kid are probably the only dubbed anime I would watch (since I'm used to it).

Well, the only dubbed anime series I watched were in Portuguese and they weren't bad per se, but I really prefer the original voice acting with English subtitles.

If there is a dub, i tend to watch 5 minutes of both to see which one i prefer, but most of the time i find the sub to be better.

I prefer to go with a dub if there is one. It gets kind of tedious reading subtitles a lot. Plus I feel like I end up missing certain things while trying to keep up with them.

There are some exceptions where I choose dubbed. For example, I found Clannad, Angel Beats!, and Psycho Pass to have some good dubs. But that's it, most other dubs are trash

Some personal exceptions exist like the ones I watched it back when I was a kid, for nostalgia's sake. The dubbed Golden Boy is hilarious.

I think there are very few exceptions where a dub can rival or even surpass the original language. Very few. Generally, subbed anime has better acting, due largely to the fact that voice actors are actually taken seriously there. In the west, voice actors are really only ever used for kid's shows, animated comedies, and big-name film features (which will often use people famed for live-action because those are the people who matter and who can sell tickets).

That said, I do actually like the option to watch shows dubbed, for several reasons. First, old dubs tend to feel nostalgic, and if you're watching something precisely because it's bad and/or cheesy, a bad dub can make it even more enjoyable. Second, if I hear that a dub is generally well-regarded, I'll often give it a shot, just because. Finally, I also like to watch or listen to things while I game, and I am, unfortunately, not fluent in Japanese, so if I want to do that, I can't use a sub.

But the majority of what I watch now is subbed.

I prefer watching dubbed anime because I don't always feel like reading what seems like a novel to get through a season of anime but I'm really lazy so :). But don't have any problem reading subs. I feel it easier to get through good dub.

P.S. - To the idiots who keep saying which ever they don't like sucks, the subject is which you prefer not how much you want to hate on the other choice, and if you want to say you're "Sharing your opinion", so am I."

subbed. except if the characters in the english dub have accents that would be relevent to the location of the show. examples being black butler.
