Cool to see more action in series. My boi Thorkell just punched a horse with three fingers. Askeladd's back story kinda makes me sympathize with him but then I know how much of a asshole he is. But even then at least he is a man. People keep saying manga is 100x times better especially for Demon Thorkell

Manga vs Anime comparison

We have to wait to two weeks for Thorkell vs Thorfinn. Hope we get top notch animation + art quality just like first 4 episodes.

P.S Amazon suck at translations.

I guess the one benefit of having not read the manga is that I can't compare it to the anime. I thought the animation was great and the fights were brutal. Definitely looking forward to seeing Thorkell vs. Thorfinn next episode.

  I don't think it was bad. Just weaker since this episode was kinda important. Or Maybe Wit have a surprise for us next episode.

  If I had to guess, I would say they probably put more time and energy into the fight with Thorkell and Thorfinn, which could account for any weaker points in this episode.

I actually like that they're trying to keep it a bit more grounded in reality... I honestly got fed up with every over the top fights they keep dishing out each season... I've seen many animes revolving around the story of king arthur and medieval europe in general, but to my disgust, most of them were too heavy on fantasy... vinland saga gave me a breath of fresh air, finally a show that managed to rekindle my passion for anime!

I adore the parallel between Thorfinn's dad and Askeladd in this episode. Thors was killed by Askeladd's men's arrows, while Thorfinn could only look on, helpless; now Askeladd's almost died the exact same way, but this time, Thorfinn won't allow it. It's like he's gotten a second chance to save his dad. And by now, Askeladd really is like his father, even more so than Thors; Thorfinn always does things Askeladd's way, never Thors', no matter how much he hates the former and worships the latter.
It's also really cool Thors and Askeladd both faced these nearly identical situations because they willingly sacrificed themselves (or at least tried to buy some time, in Askeladd's case) to protect others, though their motivations were anything but alike.
