After graduating from school he took social sciences at Otemon Gakuin University, where he belonged to the local SF club. During his time at university he participated in Daicon Film activities and after dropping out of university in 1987 he joined the former Daicon Film, now Gainax, where he participated as Production Manager in works such as Honneamise, Nadia and Top wo Nerae.
In 1992 he left together with Maeda Mahiro, Higuchi Shinji and Yamaguchi Hiroshi to establish a new studio, Gonzo, where he assumed the position of President and Representative Director. Currently he serves as Chairman of the Board and Representative Director at GDH.
Murahama left Gonzo on March 31, 2009 and launched a new company called Lambda Film on April 1, 2009, the same day that Gozo's parent company, GDH, absorbed Gonzo and adopted the Gonzo brand name for itself.
Murahama will serve as the representative director for Lambda Film's board of directors.
