Tension, Hype, Sudden Twists and awesomeness. These are just some words I think help give an idea of just what King golf is. Many readers get the wrong idea when they hear King Golf. ‘’Golf is so boring and bad’’ ‘’I will just sleep reading this manga’’ are just some things I have heard people say when I recommend this manga. While yes, Golf might be boring and annoying to some people, this manga is the whole opposite from what you’re saying. However, I cannot keep talking in this kind of format to keep you hooked on the series. I will have this review divided into 3 different sections: Plot, Characters and art and by the end of all the sections, I will give a rating.
PLOT
The story of King Golf follows a high schooler called Sousuke Youki. Youki goes to Teirin High school, where you are either with a gang or you’re an Elite sports player, Youki is a gang member. One morning when Youki was finishing up a fight, Kazumi, a prodigy golf player, looked at Youki, and with disappointment he walked away, completely ignoring Youki. Youki, who is filled with rage, going out of his way to take revenge on Kazumi by looking down on him, made Youki enter the school’s Golf Club, filled with over the top Golf players and a thuggish golf coach. Youki makes up a goal to become the King of Golf, but what does it take to become king of golf, and what challenges on the way does Youki have to face?
What I like about this plot is Sousuke Youki.
With him being a gang member from the beginning, he took a massive twist and became a golf player, and on top of that he wants to become the best, which is not what you see in a lot of sports manga. During the manga you see Youki struggling a lot, but also the motivation, and energy he has to keep going, just to take revenge on a small look. Overall, I think this plot is very unique from any other sports manga and it works as a Shounen
Plot is 9/10, interesting and works
CHARACTERS,
King Golf has a lot of different characters. All ranging from different personalities, helping to give the series more life.
From tired, sluggish personality, to spoiled attitude characters, King Golf has almost everything to offer with characters. First I want to talk about the supporting characters. Youki before entering the golf club had a buddy called matsu maru who helps Youki during his career as a golfer. From training to cheering, he does everything to help Youki get revenge on Kazumi. On the talk of Kazumi, let’s talk about the character who’s the most important of them all. Kazumi is a laid back, pro Golfer, who can do almost anything and is involved in a lot of pro Golf tournaments, he’s a very good rival character, very well done. We also have lots of minor supporting characters. They don’t mean as much, however they each have time to shine. Overall I think the series gets much more life with each of the characters personality, both supporting characters and antagonists.
One more thing to add is that whenever Youki is training, we get shown that the others have been training too, it’s a good and nice touch to say basically, even when the main character is somewhere else, the world is alive.
Overall I would give the characters 10/10, really like them.
ART,
oh dear, where do I start. The art in King Golf is just phenomenal.
Even the smaller panels are so good. I wouldn’t say the art is Kentaro Miura or Yusuke Murata level, however the art is one of the high points of the series. There are a lot of full page spreads and cover pages which is just a treat to the eye.
You’ll never get tired of the art throughout the series, it’s just amazing. Each individual character are so nicely drawn, the nature and forests are very well done and just everything is drawn very good and nicely. While yes a lot of sports manga have good art, this series is no exception, it also has very good art. Throughout the series you can see how much every character have changed, along with the art style changing.
Art overall is 10/10, nothing more I could have asked for
Now then, I don’t really have anything more to talk about that I think is positive, so let me talk about the con’s
CON’S,
Youki’s attitude. This might sound controversial to say, just after saying how he’s a good character, but let me explain. Youki as said was previously a gang member, for him to join the gold club might take a while for him to change attitude, if he’s even willing to change it. Youki is good, but can sometimes be annoying to some extent, he’s not a douche all of the time however there are some times where he just switches attitude, which some people might not mind. Like said, nothing to big but I think it can sometimes be.. Weird I guess
Kazumi as a character. I know, these hot takes are becoming a bit too weird. Kazumi like I have said, is just such a good character as a rival. What I dislike about Kazumi is that he’s a bit too laid back and doesn't have enough care about Youki. Otherwise he’s a very well done and good character.
Last words and final rating about the series,
Like said with everything else that I have said, this series is just absolutely phenomenal. I’m just so surprised this isn’t more popular, since I don’t see enough people talking about this. Just because it’s about golf, doesn’t mean it’s trash. I myself am not that into Golf, heck this was probably one of the first media about Golf I consumed, and what can I say, I don’t regret it. The tension in the battles, the precision everyone has to have to win, the hyped up moments that got me off my seat, this can’t even be compared to real life Golf, I enjoyed this just way too much, both as for being a series and something about being Golf. Try this out, and see if this changes your perspective about Golf.

Welcome to my review, I will make this a s spoiler free as possible. If I do type in a spoiler, I will tag it.
Psyren, an unbelievably weird but enjoyable and cool shonen manga. Psyren started publication December of 2007 and ended September of 2010, just under 3 years. Psyren follows a high school boy called Ageha Yoshina. One day coming home late, he finds a red card with the text ‘’PSYREN’’ on it and a phone number on it. The next day he asks his school cult club and they say It’s an urban myth. The next day Ageha’s friend suddenly disappears from school, the only thing he found that belongs to her is her wallet, and inside was the same red card. Without thinking, he went to the park where he found the card and called the number in a phone booth. He got a lot of questions he had to answer, both public and private questions, until he suddenly got teleported to a waste land and where he found his friend.
As I said in the summed up plot, the story is quite a mystery manga, and you learn a lot more what happens the more you read. During the read where you follow along Ageha’s journey you get introduced to funny, cool, menacing and just enjoyable characters. Each having cool abilities different to each other making the manga more and more interesting to read. The battles are not very long and it is very easy to read through. The mangaka’s art is very clear and clean and the paneling is very good which makes the pages look beautiful.
While talking about powers and battles let’s talk a bit more about how the power system works in this manga. The power they use in this manga is called Psi, which every human has but never awakened, only those who are powerful enough? I know it sounds like a garbage power system but just hang on a little bit too, I thought it was weird too. Psi can be divided into three different categories which are the following: Enhance (Use Psi to enhance your physical powers), Blast (external usage of Psi to create powerful blasts or creatures) and lastly trance (use Psi to affect someone’s mental state). These categories are only the basics, because you’ll see the characters use these kind of Psi in very unique ways.
The fights are also very good. Unlike most shonen manga’s, the MC always has to be in the fight, or be very connected to the fight, but in this case, there are a lot of fights that happen, that the mc has almost no connection too. This makes it interesting since you get to see both side characters and villains fight and you get to learn about them too.
I don’t have anything much more to say and these are my last words of this review. Psyren is an awesome shonen manga, with cool fights, interesting characters with interesting moves and attacks, the settings in this manga is good and cool and just overall a really good and awesome manga to read. The series is very short so it shouldn’t take more than a week to finish it. It’s sad that Psyren Is not popular at all, Psyren has what it takes to become a good mainstream manga, and what it has to become a good anime, so please, check this manga around and spread these small media’s about Psyren if you like it and one day, we might even get an adaptation.

Welcome to my review of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. I will make this review as spoiler free as I can, If you think this Is a good review, please leave a like.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is in total 343 chapters and 38 volumes, however the english releases of the manga split the manga into 3 different parts. The first part being called just ''Yu-Gi-Oh!''. Many fans might recognize the adaptation of it as ''Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0''. The second part of the manga is called ''Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist''. This adaptation is the one most fans recognise as it is the first english dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh season to ever be broadcasted over TV. The third part is called ''Yu-Gi-Oh! Millenium World''. Millenium World is very different to the adaptation and I will go in to details with every part in this review, but I want to clear up that I will be going to use the three different parts because that's how most Yu-Gi-Oh fans experienced the manga. Now then, all being said, onto the review!
Yu-Gi-Oh! is 7 volumes long containing 59 chapters. This part of Yu-Gi-Oh is in my opinion the best introduction to this series. When you think of Yu-Gi-Oh! you think of child friendly, cards and fun. However, the manga is much more dark and gory than you might have expected. The story follows our main protagonist Yugi, a tenth grader who owns a puzzle from his grandpa, who owns a game shop. Yugi has been trying to complete this triangle formed puzzle for 8 years with no success, until one day, he actually completes this. When Yugi completed the puzzle, the triangle was in shape, and in the middle was an eye. As soon as he completed the puzzle, the eye shines light into Yugi's forehead, showing a big eye glowing. Yugi had gained the soul of a great Pharoh.
When Yu-Gi-Oh gained the soul of this Pharaoh, he instantly became a gaming master, beating any kind of game, from normal board game to russian roulette type of games. The thing is, It's the Pharoh's soul who is the gaming master, and not Yugi's original soul. Yugi's soul only switches when his dearest friends are in trouble, that's when he comes up with a game and tries to beat them in a shadow game. The games most often becomes very extreme, including electric shocks, fire and much more. Overall this part is pretty good, its a good introduction to the series and It shows Kazuki Takahashi's great art and story telling. Overall 9.5/10.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Is the part after Yu-Gi-Oh! and is 24 volumes long, 219 chapters. This part focuses muh more on duel monsters (the card game) and has much more lore. We get to know stuff like the creation behind the card game, more about the 7 millenium items (one of them yugi owns) and a lot more. We also get to see the improvement in Kazuki Takahashi's art.
We also get introduced to a lot of new characters, and we get introduced to a lot of stratagies. We also get to see Yugi finally being able to switch between the pharaoh's soul and his own.
There isn't anything more to say really about this part. It has much more going on and i think it is the most ambitious part. This was also most likely the start of many peoples childhood and getting introduced to the series, 9.5/10.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Millenium World is arguably the best part compared to the other parts. It is 7 volumes and 65 chapters and concludes the ending of the original run. This part takes place in a shadow game (for the most part) and the protagonist of this part is the Pharoh's soul. We learn much more things about the Pharoh. When Yugi first got the Pharoh's soul, he had forgotten his memories and name, in this part we slowly get to know his memories and slowly we get to know his name (which is the mission in this part). We also get to see how duel monsters was used to play. As expected the art is fabulous, even though sometimes it can be hard to understand, you have to take into concideration that this was a weekly series.
(The manga is very different to the anime because the anime included Kaiba, and was directed by 4Kids, and we all know 4Kids suck)
My final words for this review:
Oh boy. This manga sure was a ride! It had a lot of twists, emotional scenes, scenes that made me get up from my seat, just a whole roller coaster ride. For someone to have never watched or read the series, It was fun to see what the series was about. The world building in this series was just awesome, the character development was superb.
My most final words for this review is you should most definetally give this series a shot, It has amazing art, amazing character and amazing story telling.

Before you read my review, I want to clarify one thing, I will only take information and examples only up to volume 4
For a series to be succesful, it need's to have one or more of these 3 basic things, which are: characters, plot and themes, luckily, Toriko has you covered, and you'll know why after you will read my review on this 2008 shounen series. First the title. Toriko in japanese means ''slave'' or ''taken'' or however you want to translate it, but this manga is the opposite, because it shows a lot of freedom, and shows the freedom in the different characters. Toriko is the name of our main character, he lives in a world where food is the only important thing, the ''Gourmet world''. In the Gourmet world lives a special kind of people called ''Gourmet Hunters'', they collect different ingredients around the world and their objective is to make their ultimate menu. Toriko has the same goal, to make his ultimate menu with the best out of the best ingredients. When we first meet him, he first kind of seems out of character, looking really laid back and dosent care about anything, but what's so fascinating about this manga is that, the more we read, the more we get to know our characters, and more about our main characters. But, Toriko isn't the first main character we get to see in this manga, despite the title being named after him. The first main character we get to see that will be with us through out the whole series is a chef, called Komatsu.
.
Komatsu is a hotel chef that works under the company called IGO. IGO is a shortened name for ''International Gourmet Organization''. We first see Komatsu get's sent of by a higher person working in IGO, to talk with Toriko and capture an animal with greater ''capture level'' that they can handle at the moment. Capture level is a system that can show how hard it is to capture an animal or ingredient. From the short panels showing Komatsu talking with the person who is in greater position in IGO, we can see that Komatsu in some way admire Toriko, because of everything that he has heard about him. What they call Toriko is ''one of the four heavenly kings''. The four heavenly kings are four very known gourmet hunters that are known to be strong and can handle a big capture level. When Komatsu finally arrives to meet Toriko, we see Toriko fishing with a very big fishing rod. Komatsu is kind of acting suprised and you can see him panicking in some sort, but ends up telling Toriko about the ingredient/animal called ''Galala gator''. While Komatsu is explaining the deal with IGO, we see Toriko suddenly grabbing a box filled with ice next to him and start eating the food in it, in some kind of rude manner, then pulls out some kind of alcohol or wine and drinks the bottle, and lastly lights some kind of branch with his fingers, and smoking it. Komatsu acts kind of surprised when we later see Toriko standing up and holding the rod very tightly, he suddenly pulls up the fishing rod and have cought a rare kind of fish, a very big one that has crab arms instead of a breast fins. While the fish is in the air, some kind of bird comes flying down and tries to take the fish as it's food, but we see Toriko tense up and then smashing both the fish and the bird on the ground. When all of this is happening, we see Komatsu is very scared and is on the ground, indicating that Komatsu isn't ready for the adventure on taking down the galala gator. When Toriko was all done, he looks at Komatsu and discussing the deal, and him saying that he is the perfect person to do this. Later we see both Toriko and Komatsu in some kind of harbour area to meet Toriko's friend Tom, who is a wholesaler. Tom takes them to the island called ''Baron Archipelago''. When we enter the coast of the island, we see strange looking monkeys on some rocks on the sea. Toriko says that it's strange, since they usually live hiding in caves. Tom later leaves Toriko and Komatsu alone to go into the jungle since it will be hard for Tom to use his boat, it might get damaged. They go in deep when they find a special kind of tiger that only lives in Baron Archipelago, but Toriko scares it by only looking at it, to indicate that Toriko is very strong. He mentions, similar with the monkeys, that the tiger should be pretty deep inside the jungle, and then says that there must be some kind of enemy that is scaring away the animals away from their usual habitat. This is a great sign of Shimabukuro's (author's name) great story telling. Even with a small island like Baron Archipelago, he still has different systems and different animals planned out only for this island. They later after some time find the Galala gator and defeats it. They later eat the gator and both think its very delicious, but Toriko accidentally eats the whole gator, leaving only a few cuts of it for IGO. This show's Toriko's more goofy side, to show that he isn't only careless, but also funny at times.
The premise for the first chapter is easy to follow, you get a mission, you go to the location, and you complete the mission, easy isn't it? While the first chapter of Toriko showed a lot of Shimabukuro's worldbuilding, it isn't only plot that it has going for it, but it also has amazing, unique and quite simply fascinating Characters!
Toriko's characters are very unique in their own special way. First, the appearance of the different characters. With the help of Shimabukuro's art, the appearance of every character can be cool, funny, cute and etc. The fashion in Toriko is very unique, since you can see the similarities between Toriko's fashion and the fashion we have today. It's in some ways relatable as if you have seen someone wear some kind of similar style but at the same time not, since it will probably look ridiculous and weird. But, that is what makes all of the characters stand out in different unique ways. Not only fashion is unique about the characters, but also their first appearance. As you probably know, first impressions are very important when meeting new characters, luckily with Toriko, when you first meet a character, you will most likely be intrigued and want to know more about the character. With Toriko, even small characters that may not look important, come back time to time and you will maybe even like them, a prime example of a character like that is Zongeh. Zongeh is a character that you first meet in volume 2, while he may look very annoying and not so fun, you'll later on kind of like him just because of how unique and different he is from everyone else. Toriko is also good for making some characters feel mysterious and hidden, kind of hyping up characters, a prime example for that is Zebra, one of the four Heavenly Kings. He first get's mentioned in volume 2 when Toriko was talking with another Heavenly King, Coco, an old friend of his. In the panel, you can see Toriko, Coco and Zebra fighting side by side.
Zebra looks massive in comparison with Toriko and Coco, indicating that Zebra is probably a bit more stronger than them and or that he can take more hits. Zebra dosen't get mentioned a lot, but when he does, he looks very badass, with shadow all around him, hiding his face and his identity. With every new time someone mentions Zebra, we get just a bit more information, making it feel like we're getting closer and closer to his reveal. You get ofcourse introduced with many characters along Toriko's adventure, both fun, annoying, badass and bad characters, with all having unique and different personalitites that you wont get bored of, it's always a new fun experience when you get introduced to a new character! A last thing to mention about characters is the villains. While you can see why and how the villains are how they are, they are very interesting too see, how they act, react, how they manage thing's, how they fight and etc. Luckily Shimabukuro has different pages showing different stats of different characters. In those pages, you get to see both main characters but also villains. The different stats are divided by 5 different stats, which are: Power, Special Abilities, Appetite, Brains and Speed. With the help of the diagram Shimabukuro uses we can see how good each character does in each stat, giving us a general impression on the character. In addition, below the diagram are additional facts about the character, which are: Age, Blood Type, Height, Eye Sight, Special Moves/Abilities, Birthday, Sign, Weight and Shoe Size and below that is a small summary about the character, all we know about them. If there is information that we don't know about the character, it will just say ''???''.
After going over both Plot and Characters, i want to know talk about Theme's! Toriko has a lot of different theme's and different island's. For Toriko to get the best ingredient's, he has to travel a lot, and because of that there are different themes through out the series. At first we are in some kind of jungle, fighting a crocodile and the next we're at a mountain fighting a giant monkey. It's always fun when we're at different places, different enviroments, It's a nice change of pace for the reader and not having the same thing everytime. You can in a way think of it like the series One Piece, the main cast travel to get closer to the great treasure ''One Piece'', in Toriko, they travel to get closer to finishing their menu. When we first arrive at a new island, it always starts of with nice full pages or a nice big panel, showing the beuty of the island and then the cast's reactions. Every time we arrive in a new island, it isn't the same reaction, it's always different, which is very enjoyable to see, some times they have to fight, and some times they can take it easy. We also get to know the different animals that live on this island, it may not be all of the animals, but we get to know a lot from those that are explained. Just like the character stats, different ingredients also have stats. It isn't devided by different powers/section, but it show's the size compared to an average human, the Capture level and a little bio about it. From this we can get a general thought of the ingredient, if it's rare, hard to catch, very big etc. Toriko as expected, cares a lot about the different habitats and different animals in a very generous way. The readers in a way almost know's just as much about an ingredient as the cast in the Toriko, as if we are on the same page. Toriko can also change things up a bit and make the main cast scattered around in the island, which makes everything more interesting! We maybe have one group that are fighting some kind of animals, while the other is trying and eating different ingredients. With this kind of technique, we get to know more ingredients and how they taste, but also see different fighting abilities and how the different animals fight. The higher Capture level we get with an animal, the more interesting it is in fighting. It will have smart abilities, good speed to run around, and also smart when fighting, making the different fights with it very interesting and enjoyable to read, making the series even more interesting. If we take away the animals, fighting the villains are also very enjoyable and fun to read. That situation is very different from the animals, since the villains are much more stronger, much faster, better thinkers, and better in almost everything overall. You can see Toriko struggle sometimes when ex. fighting different villains, which is fun to read, hoping that Toriko will win and not lose!
A last thing to mention is the author himself, Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro. As you might know, he was in a bad situation in 2002, having done some lewd stuff with a underage girl, the police found out and sent shimabukuro to jail, and in addition adding up the jail time 2+ years. While this was back in 2002, almost 2 decades ago, this still get's talked about, about his actions and why it is wrong. While yes his actions were wrong, everyone can agree to that, i think that this should be talked about less. This action was in 2002, two decades ago, a human being by that time has changed, being more mature, knowing why they did what they did and knowing that it is wrong. His jail time was also also 2x as much then what it should've been, instead of two years, it was four years. Being in 4 years in prison must 90% change the way you think, especially that shimabukuro isn't knows for being a big criminal, he was a mangaka. So by that time he mustve changed, he must have matured, he must know what he did wrong and that he wont do it again, and it shows, because after 2002, he never did anything that wrong again, instead, he got married, wrote Toriko and became succesful. Shimabukuros private life in my opinion shouldn't stop you from reading a wonderful story about a man that loves food, no in fact, you need to read it! It is very well known, having a lot of video games, having 2 anime's and a lot of merchandice, from pins to pencil cases having just a picture of Toriko on it.
So these are my last words before i end this review. You need to give Toriko a try for how it is with it's plot, characters and different themes, I give Toriko a 100/100.
