(this review contains very minor plot spoilers, won't ruin your enjoyment of the story)
This manga is truly a wild ride, and I've never read anything like it. I read all of it in one 5 hour sitting and I was hooked in for all of it, even the second half which some people find to be more "boring" still kept me invested. However this series is definitely more than just "shock factor", with a lot of good human drama and backed up by great and eerie artwork. It's a short series wrapping up at 58 chapters so you don't have to commit too much time to it. Now let's delve into the review.
Plot:
The story follows our MC Kasuga Takao who is your typical animanga MC loser, slightly bullied and taken advantage which is nothing new and we have seen this type of MC countless times, and 2 other girls Saeki and Nakamura. Essentially for reasons I won't get into Kasuga ends up in a situation where he is unable to to disobey Nakamura who cruelly and relentlessly blackmails him into doing some INSANE things. Over and over the story pulls you in and makes you unable to stop turning the pages due to just how completely insane Nakamura is, she is genuinely one of the most crazy characters I've seen in animanga. Without spoiling too much the first half of the manga follows the wild exploits of Nakamura, Kasuga's attempts to cover them all up, and the short term consequences of these actions.
In the second half of the story a short time skip occurs and we cut to a couple years later where Kasuga is deeply traumatized, attempting to repair relationships he has destroyed, and trying to move on and live with himself after knowing what he has done.
Characters:
As for our MC Kasuga, he starts out as a conceited young boy who feels he is superior to his classmates due to his "deep understanding" of many complex poems and stories, which is not true he has just deluded himself into thinking so. Over the course of the first half of the series Kasuga transforms from someone who is hanging onto this idea of remaining a "normal person" and trying to conform to the society and town he has lived in all his life, into someone who yearns for more. This happens due to the many shenanigans Nakamura puts him up to which slowly force Kasuga to acknowledge and come to terms with who he really is instead of the front he puts up; or as Nakamura puts it "pulling back layers of his skin".
The main driving force of this story is Nakamura who is from an outside perspective completely batshit crazy. If you are not infatuated with her scheming and very strange nature off the start, I don't think this story is for you as it is one of the main things that is meant to hook the reader in and keep you turning those pages. Nakamura is a completely misunderstood person who feels she is alone in the world (also with a superiority complex but to much more of an extreme than Kasuga) referring to the other people in the town as "shit eaters", however she is misunderstood because she rejects everything around her. It isn't until she gets involved with Kasuga that she finally sees someone else as a person who is worth interacting with. The way that Nakamura forces wild scenarios onto Kasuga is so entertaining to watch, as well as the way that she slowly corrupts and makes Kasuga addicted to her. She does all of these things that make Kasuga want to escape from her, but at the same time he is so deeply infatuated with her that he keeps coming back for more. She is so unpredictable and I was always kept guessing what she was feeling and what she would do next since this story is told through the eys of our MC, and she is without a doubt the best part of this story.
The final main character of the story Saeki was the one that had the least impact on me and resonated the least with me. She appears to be your typical class idol at a first glance, but she also has a few screws loose. I honestly don't have much to say about her, she serves the purpose of being Kasuga's "goal" at first I suppose because he wants to be with her and be a "normal" guy and have a "normal relationship" with her which I think she does well. I found her willingness to keep involving herself with Kasuga and Nakamura time and time again strange, because she knows how fucked up they are. It's possible I just didn't understand something about her character so if anyone has any insight don't hesitate to send me a message.
And finally the side characters in this story were done well, I really liked how they kept this story grounded in reality. The way they react to Kasuga and Nakamura's insane actions is realistic and makes you think that something like this could actually happen in real life.
Art:
The artwork in this manga is simply put stunning. I think it alternates from a sort of "basic" school life style to a super creepy and eerie style, which I think resembles something out of a horror manga. The symbolism with the "flower of evil" and the character expressions as well as the backgrounds are just stunning and are for sure one of the things that kept me so interested in this story. Particularly I think some of Nakamura's most meaningful moments were accompanied by some of my favourite art I've seen in a long time. The manga was published over the course of 5 years so the art also improves over time, with the final couple of chapters being beautiful.

In conclusion, I think that Aku no Hana is a really great and quick read which really gets you thinking about what it means to be normal, about the consequences of your actions and about the impact that you have on other people. I'm sure I missed some things with the deep symbolism and some of the underlying themes which you can go look up on reddit or read and find out for yourself afterward, but I think even without diving too deep into this story it still has a lot of offer and can be enjoyed by fans of any genre. However the story does take the perverse acts Nakamura and Kasuga get up to to the EXTREMES so some people will find it off putting. I'm basically desensitized to that type of thing at this point so it didn't bother me at all.
Overall rating: 8.5/10

This is my first review :) (edit: this was written in june of 2018)
Masamune-Kun no Revenge, what kind of show is this? Lets see.
Story 8/10 : Basically in Masamune-Kun no Revenge we have our main protagonist Masamune Makabe, and this guy has a very unusual past. Eight years ago from the time where the story takes place our buddy Masamune used to be a fat loser. He was always getting bullied and called a pig. Without spoiling anything he meets a female named Adagaki Aki. Long story short he had a certain event happen to him to make him hate Adagaki. Then he proceeds to develop a sexy body and is no longer a loser, and using this body he plans to get Adagaki to love him and then destroy her feelings as revenge (hence the name of the show ). The story seems like it would be goofy and stupid but it is surprisingly enjoyable. ( if you feel like the story wasnt full enough, read the manga to get a better sense of what's going on )
Art & Sound 7/10 : The art in this show in my opinion was very good. The character designs were very beautiful and none of the characters had overly large boobs or wierd features. However there were no moments i can recall with gorgeous backgrounds or noticable things like that ( thats why I have art at 8 instead of a 9 ). The sound was pretty unnoticeable and I guess the opening was not that bad but I usually skipped it. The voice actors all did a good job and none of the characters had annoying voices. So overall the sound was good but forgettable.
Characters 8/10 : I believe the characters in this anime were the determining factor in if you like it or not. Adagaki ( the heroine ) is a really big asshole to everyone around her for certain reasons in her past and you can never really tell what she is thinking because she is very unpredictable in her actions. If her character sounds interesting to you it will greatly increase your enjoyment of the show. Masamune ( the MC ) is very different from Adakagi but similar at the same time. He is very popular and nice to everyone but all of the things he does are a part of his plan to become a " hot guy " so its kind of all a lie. He also has his master plan to get revenge which makes you think he is even more of an asshole deep down. The support characters in this show are all likable but kind of forgettable in my opinion because of how focused I was on Adakagi and Masamune's relationship. There is also a love triangle in the middle of the show, however I still could tell which girl he would choose. The characters are very unpredictable in this show and the main two develop nicely so that's why I give the characters an 8/10.
Enjoyment 6.5/10 : After all of the good things I said about this show you were probably expecting a higher score here but that is not the case for two main reasons. The backstory of Masamune and Adagaki is revealed very slowly throughout the show. The other reason is that the ending was garbage and unsatisfying but I guess that is a little bit unfair because I believe the show is eventually getting a second season.
Overall 7/10 : In conclusion this is a decent anime to watch if you are simply looking for new animes in the genre because like me you seem to have seen everything else. It has its cute moments and the story is pretty good and unique. Another thing about this show was that the pacing was very good as even though there is only 12 episodes, I felt like it was longer which was a bonus for me. I also realized that this anime did not really seem like a harem but I know why it is in that genre from the manga. The ecchi tag is also on a barely needed level as there was next to no ecchi it seemed to me at least.
I feel I had to add this part at the end. I highly recommend that you watch this anime and then read the manga afterwards. It goes more into detail on the story and it is ongoing as well so it continues after the anime ending. I give this anime a 7/10 but i would give the manga an 8.5.

This is my second review ever. Lets start by saying that this anime is in the genre Shoujou Ai and won't be for everyone and it was definitely an interesting watch. (edit: this was written in july of 2018)
_Story 8/10 : The story in this anime revolves around the relationship between two teenage girls named Yuzu and Mei. Due to the marriage of Yuzu's mother and Mei's father they end up living together as step-sisters. Because of this they have a relationship that is not simple at all and with their feelings it gets even more complex. A lot of the show consists of Yuzu dealing with her inner demons and asking herself questions such as "what do i want/need?" and "what does Mei want/need?". The pacing was very good in the beginning of the show (ep 1-8) but near the end of the show it became slightly more frustrating to watch because of how Yuzu handles situations so poorly. The story is pretty unique and it was refreshing to watch. I give it an 8/10 instead of 9/10 because of the bad pacing near the end and because of a certain character but I shall go into detail on that in the character section.
_Art 10/10 : The art in this anime was outstanding and it was one of the best I have watched in a while. In the first episode when I saw Yuzu with her makeup on it looked really weird to me and I really disliked it. However she ends up not wearing any so that was good (for me at least). The character designs in this anime were so good. The way each character looks different from one another was very nice to see because of how many anime I've seen where the girls all look the same. One of the best things about the visuals in this anime was the characters eyes. Mei's purple eyes just look so awesome and the colours of all of the school uniforms and hair looked superb as well. The background art was also very good in this anime and at some times looked almost like it was filmed instead of drawn. I give the art a 10/10 and the only negatives were how the lips looked kind of strange and Yuzu's makeup was just so weird to look at.
_Sound 6.5/10 : I give the sound in this anime a 6.5/10 because it was not anything special but it was also not bad. Like most anime it was just there and forgettable. However the music never seemed out of place and the opening was not that bad as well.
_Character 7.5/10 : The characters in this anime were really the deciding factor in its success or failure. Lets get into the important ones.
Aihara Yuzu - Yuzu is one of those characters in anime that is overall liked and she doesn't seem to have any real downfalls other than being somewhat dense. She is always trying to understand what is going on in Mei's head and she is usually unsuccessful which gets frustrating at times. Overall a pretty good protagonist.
Aihara Mei - Mei is another character that seems to be one of your general anime stereotypes at first (the cold tsundere/princess), but you will quickly realize that she has many reasons to do the things that she does and her depressing backstory added a nice touch of drama. She is not honest in her words or actions at all which leads to many situations that could have been avoided which is annoying at times, but its a part of her personality so it wasn't that bad. Her character added a nice sense of darkness and also realism as well.
Mizusawa Matsuri - All I can say about Matsuri is that she was by far the worst part of the show. The only purpose she served was to halt the progress of Mei and Yuzu's relationship. She has a twisted personality and is unreasonably mean. Her part in the show was very annoying to watch.
_Enjoyment 8/10 : Overall this anime was very enjoyable for me. It has a nice mix of drama/darkness and those heartwarming moments. The ending was very good as well and no strings were really left untied. The supporting characters were pretty good and were not overused which was good. One thing about this show is that often times the way that Mei and Yuzu force themselves on each other can be somewhat disturbing to watch. When I say "force themselves" I'm not talking about raping each other or anything like that, but they steal kisses from each other and its sometimes uncomfortable to watch. The characters don't really get phased or traumatized by it so it doesn't have a real everlasting effect.
_Overall 8.4/10 : In conclusion this anime was very good and the art in this show is so good that I would say its worth a watch just to view the art. The story and pacing was pretty good and it was resolved nicely. Overall this show gets a 8/10 from me and I don't know why it has such a low rating.
