Just as a heads up, my review will have a few spoilers within it!
I was actually going through a really hard time when I started watching this anime, so it ended up meaning a lot to me. Watching Bocchi struggle with social interactions reminded me a lot of my younger self, as I had crazy social anxiety back in high school. I was always moving around, and wasn't very cute or confident, so I felt like I didn't have much to offer people. I think seeing someone try her best to make friends in the only way she felt how was kind of comforting, as that's kind of what I ended up doing as well, except for me it was with drawing.
I think all of the characters in this anime are really cute and have solid personalities and ambitions! They work really well together and bounce off one another effortlessly. I really enjoyed seeing them socialize, and also have to remember that Bocchi isn't going to always say what she wants, an backpedal a little, or infer what she wants/needs. That also made me feel a little seen lol, it was really accurate to how my friend group in high school acted back in the day.
The supporting characters were really good as well. I always enjoyed seeing Seika and how she was supporting her sisters band in her own way; pushing them towards a success that was well earned and deserved. Her friend PA-chan was also really cute lol, she had a different personality than I was first expecting, but perfectly suited her. I'm actually really looking forward to knowing more about her.
I really enjoyed seeing how Bocchi was an incredible guitarist when she was playing by herself, but had to learn how to play with others. It really solidified the anime in reality, and showed that there's always work to be done on a skill, even when others consider you the best. I think with that, it was pretty funny knowing that she was so popular online with her guitar videos, but a total nobody in real life. It was cute seeing that she was even known in her band, and it made her nervous and wiggly. Shout out to her dad too for monetizing her videos, that was always in the back of my head. Go girl get your cash!!
What really impresses me is how much I enjoy the music in this anime, too. I'm always listening to it on Spotify, and never skipped the opening or ending. There are a lot of anime revolving around music that just felt bland or uninspired that ended up making me feel frustrated with the show as whole. This was definitely not one of those! It's another reason why I'm so excited for a season 2. I'm excited to see what other music will be released!
Overall, this is a solid, silly anime that definitely cheered me up when I needed it. Sometimes Bocchi's anxiety is played up way too high for my tastes, but I was always forgiving of it. I think that really is my only critique of it thus far.
