You can name more than 1 anime for each category.
For me the most under-rated anime is plastic memories and the most over-rated is dragon ball super.
I guess haikyu is pretty over rated
And I think Kokoro Connect is under rated
An overrated anime for me is:
KONOSUBA Gods blessing on this wonderful world
While some underrated ones would be:
xxxHOLiC
Run with the Wind
SKET Dance
overrated:
Akira
underrated:
Black Bullet
a lot people say this sucks, I personally enjoyed this a lot :P
Overrated:
ReZero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Underrated:
Don't see a lot of love for Bakuman which is somewhat surprising, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

How does your complaint about JoJo make any sense? It's a battle shounen. Would you prefer if there weren't any creative tactics or powers being used in the show? It's a good thing for a show to keep you on your toes by using interesting or unique strategies in each of the fights, which JoJo does incredibly well.
As for Bunny Girl Senpai, could you elaborate? I see a lot of Monogatari fans complain about it being a "low quality ripoff" which I think is pretty ridiculous. In fact I think Bunny Girl Senpai is significantly better.
The protagonist Sakuta is great and his dry humor gets me every time.
Sakuta's relationship with Mai is excellent and their banter is always really fun. In fact, Sakuta's conversations with any members of the cast are always great. Even the picture dramas (without any animation) are incredibly enjoyable because the conversations between the characters feel so natural.
The show also has many incredibly well done emotional scenes (which are almost completely absent in Monogatari). Moments like when Sakuta rushes out of the hospital after Kaede's memories return, or when Mai dies in the movie, or when Mai pleads with Sakuta to choose to survive and not to try to save Shouko are fantastic and they evoke emotion so well.
There's also many great arcs, like Kaede's. Something I noticed is that early in the show, when the phone rings, Kaede looks absolutely terrified. But later on in the show, when the phone rings she clearly looks uneasy but far less scared. That's just a nice detail to include, and that's not even getting into the best parts of the arc.
And honestly? (Monogatari spoilers) When Hachikuji passes on in Monogatari I felt nothing, though I will say the scene in the 3rd Kizumonogatari movie where Shinobu reveals that she wanted to die all along was a great emotional scene. Besides that, I really can't think of many scenes in that series where I felt strong emotions, whereas for BGS I can name many.
Also...Sakuta doesn't have an incestuous relationship with his sister which is always a plus (looking at you Araragi). I'm perfectly fine with fanservice, but the way it was done in that show was just obnoxious. Not only does basically every other scene include fanservice but they do ridiculous incest fanservice which is just...yeah.

Part 2 does have some of those scenes where Joseph reveals that he was doing something while the enemy was distracted, but personally it's still my second favourite part after part 7. Mainly because of how focused the fights were (only a few enemies, whereas other parts have dozens) and how much better the pacing was compared to other parts. However it's fair to not be into that kind of stuff in fights, so your criticism does make sense. There is definitely less of that as the series goes on I would say, especially part 4 onwards.
Your first BGS criticism is a little odd though. Naturally there are set interactions that happen between the characters, but Monogatari has the same thing. Araragi and Hachikuji's whole "you said my name wrong" thing happens many times throughout the series and doesn't change at all. It's a completely repetitive exchange that doesn't change, whereas Sakuta's jokes usually do change (simply with what words he chooses and what situations he uses them in) and are always funny.
In terms of storylines being uninteresting, I suppose that one's completely subjective. I thought they were all interesting and unique but there were clearly ones that were stronger than others (Mai's and Kaede's in particular were fantastic).
The scientific explanations are there to explain how things are going on, which is only a good thing. Also, I'd say you're right about them being there to get you more invested into Futaba. That's also absolutely a good thing, as it allowed for many interactions and fun back-and-forths between her and Sakuta.
As for there being basically no banter, I'd disagree. His interactions with Mai, Futaba, and Koga were always really fun to watch. Obviously there isn't as much banter in sheer quantity as Monogatari because that series is incredibly long, but regardless I found all the interactions to be fun and natural-feeling.
And I do agree that emotional scenes aren't absolutely necessary for a show to be good, but my main problem with Monogatari is that so little actually seems to happen. When I look back on the events of Monogatari I don't think "wow, that arc was so memorable" or "that exchange made me feel 'x' way". The exception is the Nadeko arc from S2 which was genuinely great.
I love seeing characters interact and engage in regular conversations, but for Monogatari that seemed to comprise 95% of the show. In my opinion, Bunny Girl Senpai balanced this much better with plenty of interactions/conversations between the characters, along with more important or engaging events in the story.
I would also say that the emotional scenes do help a lot for shows like Monogatari or Bunny Girl Senpai, as those shows are focused all around the struggles of characters. I feel like the problems that the characters are having get through to me better if there are impactful emotional scenes incorporated into their stories.
For example, a scene where Senjoughara breaks down after her aberration problem was solved in the first arc. It was such a struggle for her, you'd think her relief to be free of it would evoke a stronger reaction. You might think of this as forced, since Senjoughara doesn't show her emotions often, but what of the scene where Senjoughara breaks down after seeing Hanekawa sleep in the cram school? It really doesn't make sense to have her cry so much in that situation, as she barely even knows Hanekawa. She breaks down seeing that yet doesn't when she's finally free of the crab aberration?
In the same vein, I also found Araragi's reaction when he finds out that Hanekawa didn't have a room for herself in her house to be so incredibly forced. He literally starts shaking, crying and yelling, jumps out of the room on the second story of the house, rushes home and buries himself in Tsukihi's lap while she's wearing no pants (another one of Monogatari's many forced fanservice scenes).
Like yeah, Hanekawa obviously has a family situation going on but his reaction was so thoroughly unrealistic and over the top that I couldn't take it seriously. I would have liked to see THAT kind of reaction in a more emotional scene. With his ridiculous reaction I was expecting to see torture devices set up by her family in that room with blood all over, not the fact that she doesn't have a room to herself.
Last but not least there was also Senjoughara in Nisemonogatari, who completely contradicts the values of her character. She basically becomes Hanekawa's boot-licker because she's scared of her threat that she'll take Araragi away from her. Since when did Senjoughara become so weak? Her ENTIRE character is built around being strong/resilient because of what happened to her in her past, yet that's all thrown away here.
You could argue that she's being weak because it has to do with Araragi who she loves, but that's really not good enough. Senjoughara would be verbally destroying Hanekawa and telling her that if she threatens to take Araragi away from her again she'll kill her, not talking to her like she's become her servant.
You might also argue that she's doing this because she believes there's a chance that Araragi could actually be taken away/swayed by Hanekawa. But that isn't good enough either, because Senjoughara had never met or seen Hanekawa before their phone call, so she'd have no idea what kind of relationship she has with Araragi.
This ended up being a little longer than I was planning haha.
speaks my mind tbh. to me bunny girl senpai is monogatari but way easier to get into and not boring, and tbh i couldnt careless that they have similar structure. one of the only romances where i enjoyed the dialogue
my main problem with Monogatari is that so little actually seems to happen. When I look back on the events of Monogatari I don't think "wow, that arc was so memorable" or "that exchange made me feel 'x' way". The exception is the Nadeko arc from S2 which was genuinely great.
yeah i dont think i remember a single conversation clearly, except that someone was probably naked and/or tilting their head.
and i agree that arc was pretty good. kaiki deishuu was the only character i liked
but then he died so i dropped/paused the series lol
to me bunny girl senpai is monogatari but way easier to get into and not boring
Yeah exactly. I don't hate Monogatari, it's okay and I completed the entire series, but I found myself so bored watching it a lot of the time. With Bunny Girl Senpai I was always engaged and interested in the dialogue, stories and troubles of the characters
To me BGS executes the dialogue-heavy and character-focused style a lot better than Monogatari, which again feels slow and like nothing interesting is actually happening
Most overrated:
Your Name (only fun in a packed theater, feels extremely unsatisfying and vapid once u finish it)
Violet Evergarden (one of the most artificially emotional anime I've seen)
Most underrated (don't know too many underrated, know more underappreciated ones):
Prison School (really funny)
I'm going off of general knowledge about said anime in the anime community, not score.
Overrated: BNHA, Monster, Babylon, Devilman Crybaby, Dr. Stone, Kuroko's Basketball, Parasyte -the maxim-, PSYCHO-PASS, Your name.
Underrated: Blood Blockade Battlefront, Dorohedoro, Blue Submarine No. 6, Gangsta.(Tsuda's voice acting in this alone), Hozuki's Coolheadedness
Curious why you say Babylon is overrated. From what I heard while it was airing it was really hit or miss up until a certain point.
The arc with the American president
After that it definitely took a fall in quality, and that's probably why it only has a 66% on here and a 6.9 on MAL. The few people that I know were watching it either dropped it or finished it and hating the latter parts.
In terms of underrated I totally second you on Hoozuki no Reitetsu. Amazingly fun anime with a neat theme that gives you some insight on Japanese myths.
I really was a big fan of their dressing that these are always wear the good things and I admire them. But the further now I saw that their handmade hoodies are not the good one seriously??
Overrated (maybe it's just not my thing):
My Hero Academia
Underrated: lol idk
Over-rated: MHA, Dragon Ball Franchise, Hunter x Hunter, Original Naruto, Your Lie in April, Demon Slayer, My Neighbor Totoro, Death Parade
Under-rated: Monster, Vinland Saga, Berserk 97, One Punch Man Season 2
"Underrated: Monster, Vinland Saga, Berserk 97"
Do you even know what underrated is lol. These are really highly regarded anime and you're calling them "underrated" ya know..
All four of the shows I mentioned should be rated higher than they are, thus making them under-rated.
Monster MAL: 8.75, should be at least 9.2
Vinland Saga MAL: 8.73, should be at least 9
Berserk MAL: 8.48, should be at least 8.8
You get the idea, the 4 I mentioned, FMAB, Spirited Away and Cowboy Bebop are the only ones I've rated higher than the consensus. I neglected to mention those because they're already in the top 20 and very close to what I'd rate them.
Overrated:
Angel Beats Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
For Sora Yori I can at least understand the appeal and I enjoyed it myself, just don't get how people feel that strongly about it. Angel Beats tho was one of the most boring shows I have gotten through and I remember dropping it at first, giving it another chance after a year or so. I liked the ending tho - the reason Tachibana was there, but aside from that, didn't enjoy it much.
Underrated:
Gamers
I just think people are too harsh on this one. Some super cute and enjoyable character interactions. Had a great time watching even if the show perhaps used some pretty dumm methods.
Probably going to be quite controversial, but that's likely what you were going for when you asked this.
Most overrated
SteinsGate
I may be the only person to say so, but I don't think that an anime that takes so long for anything to happen deserves a rating that high. Any other show would get roasted into oblivion but for some reason Steins; got a free pass.
Most underrated
Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara
This is one of the most beautifully animated anime I've ever seen, and sadly because of the season that it aired in it got overshadowed by so many hyped up shows. (For example Bunny Girl Senpai, Goblin Slayer, Tokyo Ghoul:re 2 and the Slime Isekai) It also ended up being a show licensed by Funimation and not Crunchyroll, so a lot of people don't even know that it exists.
The story had such a unique twist to it that I loved it early on and it stayed one of my favourite anime ever.
Overrated?
Hunter x Hunter 2011
Underrated?
Inazma Delivery
Most overrated:
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - Literally nothing special about it imo but you're free to disagree
given - Despite that it's one of my favorites, there have only been 11 episodes and a lot of people say it's an amazing anime when we've barely seen anything.
Most underrated:
Barakamon
Anonymous Noise
Smile Down the Runway
Underrated:
O Maidens in Your Savage Season
Ride Your Wave
Overrated:
Your Lie in April
Sword Art Online Alicization
Sao,yea I agree
sao s1 and s2 get enough hate, but for some reason people think Alicization is actually good and it baffles me cuz i think its easily the most boring, dull, and pointless arc in the show. the latest season has been some absolute hot garbage as well.
man, I really disliked
Araburu Kisetsu no Otomedomo yo
it wasn't even because of the more controversial themes and shit, the characters just weren't that well written and everything fell apart by the end.
Most Overrated - One Piece
Honorable Mentions: Any and All of the "Big" Shounen Titles
Most Underrated - Fruits Basket (2019) honestly for how good it is and how many praises it, I do not believe it gets the praise it deserves nowadays, many even overlooking it when it came to the best Anime of the year
Honor Mention: Rising of the Shield Hero - Screw the haters especially ANN for calling this "the worst Anime of 2019", this Anime was amazing
Note this will trigger some
Overrated: Your Lie in April
OnePunch Man
KONOSUBA Gods blessing on this wonderful world
To Love Ru
Underrated:
World Trigger
Kekkaishi
