It hasn't been long since Fire Emblem: Awakening (Official website, Wikipedia) has been released, yet a teaser trailer for the new Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo 3DS platform has already been submitted. The full name of the game is not known yet, nor is the release date for Japan. Since the new game is in its "teaser mode", feel free to discuss and speculate whatever on the topic (direct relations to the video below are appreciated). Since games in the Fire Emblem series do hold a storyline, please, refrain from posting open spoilers - make sure to put them under spoiler tags and explain what their content includes.
Without any further ado, here it is: Nintendo 3DS - Fire Emblem Teaser Trailer
Further info shared in this post.
The new Fire Emblem looks great in my opinion (although my opinion is pretty worthless considering I've never played any Fire Emblem games); I always love character designs for Fire Emblem and knowing the 3DS' graphical capabilities, I think this Fire Emblem would be pretty compatible with the hardware. But is it that much of a step-up from Awakening? It looks really similar, but again, I don't really know how the Fire Emblem series is hands-on, gameplay wise.
If it's the exact same thing as Awakening but with a different story and different characters I'll be extremely excited. FE Awakening was great so having more of it would be awesome. And if you've never played any of the FE games and have a 3DS you should try to pick up Awakening, it's a great first step into the series
Honestly I would've but I don't own a 3DS, because Awakening had such great reviews! I've just tried the 3DS plenty of times from people I know who have one.
I have a friend who has been into Fire Emblem for a long time now, and based from that trailer, he was rather surprised how little will the new Fire Emblem change from Awakening. All the previous releases supposedly had bigger differences between each other, while this one seemingly has only a few different approaches. He also implied that he has mistaken the dancer for Lucina there for a second, which further proves the point of (un)wanted similarity.
If you were to ever get a 3DS and give it a try, I highly recommend the purchase of Awakening; it is really worth it. Also, note that these games are designed in a way so it doesn't matter if you've played their previous releases or not. I, for one, have started with Awakening, meaning that I've only played a single game in the franchise up until now. I'll be giving the new Fire Emblem a try, regardless of similarities, since I've been made a fan. :)
Alright, we've progressively received some more information regarding the game. I believe some of this info (such as the main story) was already known back when I created this thread, but I'll share it now regardless. Before proceeding, the majority of info below is taken from here, excluding my comments and some other stuff which should be noticeable. I think. Otherwise, yeah, it's a mixture of my "art" and that page's content.
The Japanese name for the game is Fire Emblem if (ファイアーエムブレム if Faia Emuburemu Ifu), while the English name is Fire Emblem: Fates. Both sound cool and relate to the game's idea of being able to choose one of two paths which effects all further gameplay, so that's covered.
Well, to complicate further to be more precise, this title features the first title split, in which two different versions of the game exist, each one with a unique story. Fire Emblem: Fates: Birthright (ファイアーエムブレム if 白夜王国 Fire Emblem if: Byakuya Oukoku Fire Emblem if: White Night Kingdom) will follow the story of the Avatar aligning with Hoshido and Fire Emblem: Fates: Conquest (ファイアーエムブレム if 暗夜王国, Fire Emblem if: Anya Oukoku Fire Emblem if: Dark Night Kingdom) will follow the story of the Avatar allying with Nohr Kingdom instead.
Side note: Hoshido is supposed to represent a Japanese nation while Nohr an European kingdom.
A limited edition version containing both storylines plus a third storyline, which will also be DLC and will involve the player choosing neither side, will be released concurrent with the other versions.
Conquest cover:

Birthright cover:

Japan's release date is 25th of June 2015 (4 days from now!), while North America and Europe shall be releasing the game in 2016, both supposedly sometime early in the year.
The player will take on the role of an Avatar who was born to Hoshido royalty, but raised in Nohr. On the brink of war, the player must choose whether to follow the destiny tied to their birthplace or the fate bound to the country that raised them. Siding with the Hoshido kingdom will involve the player defending it from the invading Nohr kingdom. Aligning with the Nohr kingdom will involve the player in a revolution within the Nohr kingdom. There will be an option to align with neither side, though details about this route have not been revealed been revealed only slightly.
The player will create an Avatar for the game. This is a returning feature. HOWEVER! (personal hype); check this out:
... Aaand a lot more stuff which you can read externally if you're interested. Returning Features can be accessed through here and New Features through here.
I'm getting really excited, even though I'll be getting the game sometime in 2016, it seems. There's also the characters side, and they look marvelous as well. That Azura! ... Though Odin looks like Owain, Lazward like Inigo and Luna like Severa (plus red hair, seriously).
That's about it. Here, have some Azura (gif quality sucks, not same in-game).

Thanks much for the nice update Subpyro, it was a very nice read. Man, wished they kept the name at if instead of Fates, but think I'll just get used to it. Anyhow, it's already on the pre-order. I've already decided to start with Conquest first, while my little sister is going to do Birthright simultaneously.
That Severa - Luna resemblance though, wow.

For the Fire Emblem fans here: I occasionally check out Serenes Forest ever since the very first Fire Emblem released in the west, which is in my opinion the only excellent fansite of this series. They cover news about the whole series on the go, including spin-offs like Genei Ibun Roku #FE (Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem) and spiritual successors like TearRing Saga. Many (GBA) Fire Emblem fan projects and modifications, like Elibean Nights, Dream of Five and The Lost Promise, also have their base of operations there. The ones I mentioned and a few others are definitely worth checking out !

I'm going with Conquer first as well, mainly due to overall preference in character design. Will play both routes, however. Like, duh. :p
Ahh, lucky you! I wish I had a friend or relative who would play Fire Emblem as well, but I unfortunately don't (that friend mentioned in one of above posts is an internet friend). Wouldn't mind a little brother or sister to play it with, especially at such occasions, heh.
This game looks amazing! I thought Awakening was really well done but this is on a whole other level. I love how it's an east vs. west story and the whole story of choosing a side. The feature like My Castle look like fun. And that OST in the Choose Your Path Trailer, chills man. I'm so happy the marriage system is returning too.
I plan to start out with Hoshido just because it's easier and I want to try out that eastern looking side. I plan to get all the routes in the end. Ughhhhh, this is one game that I really need to be out right now! I'm so hyped!
This makes my ochinchin go dokidoki. Though I hate how theyre two separate games. Probably still going to get both.
From what I've heard, those of us in the Western world are going to get a release that has all three routes. I could be wrong, but I really hope I'm not.
That was the primary assumption as well, though we got the confirmation of two incoming versions at the E3 a few days ago. As the two versions were officially announced in Japan in an earlier Nintendo Direct while the versions information was wholly omitted in the western Direct, it's not even strange in the slightiest that we initially thought to get both games in one package.
Sadly or not, we have to buy the same game twice. It's TLOZ: Oracle of Ages/Seasons all over again.
Hey, that wasn't too bad since Ages/Seasons at least had two whole games worth of content and they had plenty of replay value since getting both versions of the story meant playing through each of the games twice.
I'm thinking they may be releasing individual AND bundled versions, so that people who only want one of the two don't have to pay for the other. At least, that's what I'm hoping they do. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.
Hey, didn't say that was bad, very nice even ! Given how old the games and GBC already are, it was really splendid at that time. The 2D Zelda's on both GBC and GBA are among my favourites.
Ah, I remember now: I think the downloadable version is just one game containing both routes. In Japan at least. I expect the same manner being used in our eShop.
The (limited?) downloadable game is supposed to include three routes in one: main two plus the neither option. Or at least so the slight info tells us. Could be that the regular DL version is two indeed with the third one being special/limited, which would make sense.
For the ones unable to wait for Fates, someone made a nifty tool where you can customise your Kamui/Avatar alter egos to your liking. Go HERE.
There's one for Robin from FE: Awakening as well, here you go.

Copypasta'd from Serenes Forest:
I’m not one to report rumours often, but this one seems credible enough.

Leo sketch by Yusuke Kozaki (unrelated to the manga).
According to multiple fans who were present at the 25th Anniversary Concert, Nintendo announced a Fire Emblem Fates manga, to be serialised in Young Magazine starting this Fall (in Japan). (Source: Hachime)
If the reports are true, Yusuke Kozaki (the artist of Awakening and Fates) will be providing the illustrations, while Shin Kibayashi (the story director for Fates) is penning the story.
Update: Famitsu has added a brief report about this news. Besides what we already knew, an image of a sword-wielder overlooking a sunset was teased at the concert.
Fire Emblem is definitely no newcomer when it comes to manga, with every game up to Binding Blade receiving a manga adaptation of some form. So this news doesn’t come as a massive surprise.
(Now the key question: Will there be two… er, I mean three versions of this manga?)
Sweet, looking forward to it; thanks for the news, Tiamo. :)
As far as the variety of manga releases is concerned, I would assume they would still stick to one alone, with that possibly being the route where one doesn't side with either side. Unlike the games, I don't assume the manga aspect of the franchise sells that extraordinarily well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they would find it as too much of a hassle to work on it from three different perspectives. Would be quite interesting if they would, though.
Sort of not new news!
Fire Emblem: Fates is to be released on the 19th of February, 2016 in North America. The exact date for its release in Europe is still unknown, with the only information known still being that it should be at one point in 2016. That said, it is probable that it will be released some time after the North American release, as the latter has had an announcement made with certainty while the latter is still lingering somewhere in the air.
@Tiamo Oh my god. Remember when we were debating how Luna looks extremely similar to Severa? Well...
Turns out she in fact is one and the same.
What's more...
I called Inigo and Owain as well.
Haha. Previous page, second reply on the thread (the one with sub-titles/headers);
"I’m getting really excited, even though I’ll be getting the game sometime in 2016, it seems. There’s also the characters side, and they look marvelous as well. That Azura! … Though Odin looks like Owain, Lazward like Inigo and Luna like Severa (plus red hair, seriously)."
Somehow, I didn't see this coming. I'm wondering at the moment: How? Why?And those aliases? I'm digging Odin and Luna, but how did Inigo end up at Lazward..
In any case, I'm hyped! Have you seen her potential daughter perchance?
I'm hyped as well, since awakening was pretty good. But I´m not sure what to think of this ''2 -version thing'' .. .. , so to get the full experience you are forced to buy both ? Since they are (total) different, not only in characters but also the story ....
Hmm right now I´m not too happy about this sellout tactic.
More news, more fresh news.
At last, we have some confirmation about the 'skinship' changes in the western localisations of Fates. Debate heated up after Kotaku presented an article that some features, like the aforementioned one, would be heavily censored. Luckily for the supporters of getting a game that stays true to the original, the feature won't be removed in its whole. Check out the video below.
As always, source and credits go to Serenes Forest for providing the news non-stop around the clock.
EDIT: For the Canadian fans...
"If you live in Canada and happen to be near Toronto on February 12, you can visit Snell Hall and have a blast with other fans in a Pre-Release Choose Your Path event. You’ll need to apply for an invitation online, but event-goers will be eligible to win one of 100 Fates t-shirts, and there should no doubt be fantastic photo opportunities. Perhaps someone could go on the behalf of our Admin team and supply us with a few photos of the event and maybe even a t-shirt or two…
Lastly, you can check out streams of the game over at Polygon’s YouTube channel. Just yesterday, they’ve already posted a 2.5 hour stream of Fire Emblem Fates, halting shortly after choosing Birthright. Hopefully others will follow soon, as GameXplain and IGN have supplied North America with early access videos as well."
Pre ordered the fates 3ds bundle. Cost me over 300 usd. I regret nothing.
Do you know if the bundle will also come to Europe?
I really want to get it but I think 3DS games are area locked so I can't get an American version.
Heya, check this out.
While we Europeans are still waiting for an exact release date, you Americans can already enjoy yourselves with the game from tomorrow! The Nintendo of America Twitter posted this:
What will you play first: Birthright or Conquest?
Sub being late as always.
But yeah, big news to all that perhaps don't know yet; all release dates, exact and approximate, have been shared!
Overall, the status is like this;
Japan: 25th of June, 2015
North America: 19th of February, 2016
Europe: 20th of May, 2016
Australia: 21st of May, 2016
Korea: Autumn, 2016
So, Europe's and Australia's dates have been added and a season for Korea.
As someone from Europe, I'm quite liking the date 20th of May as that is the last day of the second semester for me, meaning that the workload will be cut a bit, though some projects which are specific for this year in my country will still be going on.
@Tiamo Stuff :)
Can't wait to play @Subpyro. This ought to be good.
Also interesting to note is Korea becoming a serious separate distribution and translation market as of late. If I recall correctly, Nintendo also released one or more games translated in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese for the first time.
Some people in Europe already received the game. Mine will be available on Friday like the official release date states, or tomorrow if I'm lucky. Nintendo seldom gives green light to lift the selling restriction, so I won't expect it however.
In the meantime, have some blueish white-haired? Camilla:

@Tiamo Check it out
I've purchased these babies earlier today. Now I don't know which one the hell to play first, or if it would actually be best to alternate between the two.

Partial text on the box is written in German as I've bought the two in a German-originating store Müller. The software is still available in English on default, so no troubles there. I've bought them in Müller due to it actually receiving the games on their release date, while other tech and/or gaming shops receive them only weeks later at my place.
Looking good man too bad that USK logo has to take 1/9 of the whole case Glad the English language is still an option for the German games. Herrschaft sounds nice as well for a change. Too bad the original Japanese voice option was omitted this time (wasn't the case for Awakening) and the censoring is present, but still... better than nothing, of course.
I'd start with Fates first, and whenever you get frustrated by restarting because someone died, you'll have the option to switch to Bravely Second. I'm having a blast with Fates right now. Nohr is not as evil as the Hoshidans presume, and I'm sure they aren't as good as people would believe.
