I don't understand why people didn't like it... I mean, for me this is the best of rebuild series, it's technically (the frameworks and sound directing are awesome!) and thematically (dichotomy between fantasy and reality; Shinji's complexities, personal situation and position are flaming in this part of the story, they're in the core message of Evangelion) perfect!
no it was all over the place og eva definitely better
Shinji's complexities, personal situation and position are flaming in this part of the story, they're in the core message of Evangelion
that only applies to the og series and end of eva the reboot sucks but have nice fight scenes imo

interesting take,
i personally believe evangelion 2.0 is way better than all the reboot films it felt like it was fixing the og series like how they "actually" made asuka a bit more likeable. focusing on relationships isnt bad tbh. i dont think its mocking the face of the old evangelion theyre just making the old eva better with this. also with more budget fights were actually pretty epic(not saying the og series wasnt). and then they had to fucking ruin everything with 3.0 .
the moment you compared eva Q to NGE is the moment your take is shit. NTE are "sequels" NTE are not remakes and shouldn't abide by what NGE did, eva 2.0 has shallow writing and doesn't dive into it's characters much but it has a purpose it's purpose is setting up a escapist narrative for the otaku/obcessed viewer to get validation to his headcanon and then Q destroys it by actually going back to the realistic and grounded world of classic evangelion. It's not non sensical, you commit genocide even by accident, you must face the consequences after watching shin evangelion it's even more clear why they are mad at him. Also the fight scenes in 3.0 are fucking fantastic and extremely creative, it's portrayal of color and merging an old style with digital is incredible, 1.0 and 2.0 look extremely generic late 00s while 3.0 has identity and doesn't stray away from NGE/EoE while being new and creative.
And of course in a techincal term nothing beats 3.0, the animation is better, the art style is better, the movie isn't rushed and messy, the colors are incredible, the framing and composition are top tier.
TLDR : you got baited by anno and your waifu isn't real, 2.0 mocks you and 3.0 isn't nonsensical
All of the character development Shinji went through in the previous movie is thrown out the window, and every other character keeps shitting on him for 'not being a man' when 'acting like a man' is precisely what caused the disaster they're all so pissed at him about.
It's called a subversion of expectations and it all is justified. This is just otaku syndrome getting triggered after seeing waifu being mean. The character development in 2.0 is fake, it's a meta device so the viewer can be tricked into thinking the direction is going to appeal to them and then getting crushed and having their expectations subverted, i want you to imagine meeting someone responsible for the killing of all your loved ones and most people in the world and see if you could face them with a smile. Think more.
They were the ones who specifically encouraged him to do what he did. They are the ones responsible for the disaster. The world's destruction is the fault of people trying to get Shinji to be someone he's not, and in this movie they have not learned from their mistake. They in fact blame him for their mistake.
You also seem to be unaware that this movie is nothing like what it was originally designed to be. If anything, link Anno baited himself.
subversion of expectations and it all is justified
Absolute nonsense. Watch the documentary about Anno - the plot of the final 2 movies was changed after the second movie, because the director didn't want to lose Shinji as the protagonist for the third movie (Originally, it was going to be centered on Asuka).
2.0 was a great movie. The ending was a bit too heroic for Shinji, but it still worked. The third movie is a hobbled mess and the final movie is even worse, trying to retcon everything while hoping to distract the audience with over-the-top nonsensical action.
