I feel like always having to start the monthly challenge entries within the month is a bit restrictive. Near the end of the month, it makes me not want to start anything new in case I could have used it for the next challenge. Maybe there could be a "cleanup" month every so often that allows you to finish shows you've already started? Or you could be allowed a limited number of "previously started" entries, or have a buffer of a few episodes (or a percentage) before it counts as previously started?
For the new Code Generator and the Codes in general, I think it would be easier if they used #.) Instead of just #.
With the way it is now, when you use the new Code Generator for just easy It will post it like:
4. Start: 2018/10/05 Finish: 2018/10/05 Watch an anime with the tags: Psychological AND Thriller Steins;Gate
5. Start: 2018/09/22 Finish: 2018/09/22 Watch a Psychological / Thriller anime with the format of TV Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

Which is fine when it is in the Spoiler but if you want it out in the open it reorders the numbers such as:
4. Start: 2018/10/05 Finish: 2018/10/05 Watch an anime with the tags: Psychological AND Thriller Steins;Gate

Which can be a pain if you want to separate Easy from Normal/Hard because the normal code also auto-reorders the numbers, and there are some numbers that ask for images so you can't spoiler the whole things unless you move that around. So I think using #.) would be better, especially now with the code generator out which make it easy to do the easy part.
I have a challenge suggestion, or a requirement at the very least : a "rewatch challenge". I think people miss out a lot on rewatching, they go from anime to anime but looking back can really bring a new perspective.
I think it could be very fun to have a whole challenge, with requirements like rewatching your favorite/least favorite anime , the usual genres/studio/time categories and things like that.
Since Anilist more or less has an option to rewatch animes from the completed list I think this is feasible.
Just a heads up that we see this and we have taken note of it. A similar sentiment came up in the discord recently, too. That being said, it is just an idea for a future challenge right now. Since rewatches are allowed for our genre challenges, a pure rewatch challenge isn't as high up on our priority list as the challenges we know we're going to bring to y'all over the coming months or as some of the ideas we have that aren't even as developed for further down the line. It definitely is in our idea bank, though.
What about a challenge with short episode duration?
Like:
Not sure if this is planned but like we have Genre Challenges i would say the next option would be Character Challenges.
So Characters with Glasses, or Facial Hair (Like on November Challenge) Or Kids, Certain Hair Colour, they could be just 10 challenges for it or longer.
That is my suggestion for now
What is the rational behind the runtime requirements? The concept itself and which shows get which length.
Super biased context: I'd much prefer to enjoy 60 minutes of Iyashikei, hot spring and food than to slog through 60 minutes of fantasy and Mahou Shoujo.
P.S. I think "around 30/60" would make it less clunky. There was a special that was 58 minutes in length I'd like to watch but it doesnt count =(
It's dependent on the total amount of anime that is available for a certain requirement. Some things like "watch an anime with a hot springs scene / episode" we want to make sure there is enough anime available that people do not struggle to find something. Everyone has their own preferences on genres. The time requirements for monthly challenges are being reworked for the December challenge, so these things may change.
Does anything on AniList count? Some consider anime strictly to be japanese productions, some even say it has to be 2D. But AniList also documents chinese and taiwanese products as well as puppeteering and claymation Specific Entry in question
P.S. would a 58 minute piece also count for the 60 minute requirement?
EDIT: solved on discord "- ̗̀Moy Rustang ̖́-Today at 8:00 PM
so long as the requirements fit with it, anything on AL is allowed"
EDIT2: solved on discord: does it have to be 60 minutes or would 58 minutes cut it too?
Is a mahou shoujo challenge something that could be considered? I’d enjoy doing that one after I’m finished with my current. Though a lot of them look fun! Looking forward to manga especially.
My challenge should be an easy one.
Watch all five of these shows dub and rank them from best and worst. I also want you to highlight an actor or actress you thought did the best among the cast in your breakdown along with who did the worst.
Here are the five anime dubs.
-Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
-Hells
-Jojo Part 1 and 2
-Ninja Nonsense
-Kill la Kill
Thank you for the suggestion, but sorry, we are not up for challenges with specific anime, especially like these, as there is a high chance that some people already watched those, and maybe even in dub. AWC goal is to introduce you to new great anime that you could have never watched before. Also, there is no real relation or theme that would join the requirement selection.
Can someone recommend a mystery anime for the challenge? PLS ^^
From your ptw list I would say:
https://anilist.co/anime/387/ (slow paced, might not be for everyone)
https://anilist.co/anime/7724/ (with the caveat that I haven't finished it, but it's one of my favourite horror anime)
And an bonus one not on your list:
https://anilist.co/anime/239/
Can someone recommend me manga for the beginner's challenge? ;-;
I'm not as well versed in manga as some of my friends in the AWC, but I'm a rom-com kind of guy so I've got a few things for you on that front. None of the following are completed, but are still currently releasing and are a ton of fun.
https://anilist.co/manga/86635/Kaguyasama-Love-is-War/
https://anilist.co/manga/72451/Horimiya/
https://anilist.co/manga/85533/Teasing-Master-TakagiSan/
I'm primarily a light novel reader, so I could recommend some light novels, but those tend to be a bigger time investment. If you don't want rom-coms, I'm a little less helpful, but the following are things that I have read that I've liked and enjoyed. One is complete, one is still releasing.
https://anilist.co/manga/56566/Not-Lives/
https://anilist.co/manga/85435/The-Ancient-Magus-Bride/
Can someone recommend me an anime for the beginners challenge? Thank you.
Here's my general go-to if someone hasn't seen it:
https://anilist.co/anime/99426/A-Place-Further-Than-the-Universe/
Hi guys, some recommendation for psychological or thriller anime. Thx ^^
I think you have the wrong thread o.o (the submission one is over here)
Can someone recommend me some Mystery anime ?
From your PTW: https://anilist.co/anime/2251/Baccano/
Not from your PTW: https://anilist.co/anime/7785/The-Tatami-Galaxy/
For the start date of the Challenges, do I use the earliest I watched an episode of or the date I posted the reply in the thread?
Regarding the 2018 Classic Challenge: I can use e.g. Banana Fish only for Summer, not for Fall because it started airing then, right? Does the total runtime of it add to the 2000 minutes per season or only the episodes airing in summer?
For challenges you should use the original start date or for genre easy modes it's also possible to use the list import date or just make your best guess if you can't remember them.
Yes you can use Banana Fish only for summer as mentioned in the challenge post
An anime only counts towards the season it began airing, as listed as on AniList
All 24 episodes count towards the total runtime.
Hope that cleared it up
Yes, thank you :)
Just regarding the dates, I was talking about the Start/End Date of the Challenge itself, not the single anime. So do I say I did the challenge from 02.01.2018 to 26.04.2019 since that's when I started watching the first anime and ended the last on the list, or just start and end today since that's when I posted the comment?
Can someone help me with some recommendations?
Watch an anime that is a remake (or that has/is an “Alternative” or “Summary” relation on AniList)
Two favorites of mine that have a "Alternative" listed are:
https://anilist.co/anime/9756/Puella-Magi-Madoka-Magica/
https://anilist.co/anime/9989/Anohana-The-Flower-We-Saw-That-Day/
Another option (though I haven't watched it myself) would be the original Hunter x Hunter from your planned list.
Challenge suggestion (if it doesn't exist already as either a "watch an anime with the tag" requirement or as a pending genre challenge): an isekai challenge, including virtual worlds (SAO, Shichisei no Subaru) and reverse isekai (Hataraku Maousama, Re: Creators). I haven't thought too much on what its specific requirements would be, but maybe some requirements could be "watch an isekai anime which is an adaption of a series that was originally published on Shosetsuka ni Narou" and "watch a shoujo isekai anime (from the 90s or early 2000s, e.g. Fushigi Yuugi, Magic Knight Rayearth)".
I got a ideas for Challenge, this one is a collection challenge.
-Name: Science Adventure
-Discription: watch all the media of the Science Adventure series.
Series that count Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes, Chaos;Child, Chaos;Head) (if you want you can even put Occultic;Nine in that list. Same writer, diffrent series. But still close enough to put it together)
So a dumb question perhaps but are shorts allowed for seasonal challenges?
I have a question about the July challenge, MIDORIMA (https://anilist.co/character/22253/Shintarou-Midorima) of KUROKO is a lover of horoscopes and believes that this can help him in his future games ... it can be considered as "Watch an anime with a fortune-telling scene or a fortune-teller character"?
@LordSig check this recommendation list https://anilist.co/user/AWC/animelist/Fortune Telling
edit: recommendation received!
could someone give me a recommendation for the Recommendation's Challenge requirement 4?
Watch an anime / Read a manga that started airing / releasing before 1990 and was recommended to you by another person
Hmm... From my list that I see for this one I feel like you might like these:
https://anilist.co/anime/512/Kikis-Delivery-Service/
https://anilist.co/anime/523/My-Neighbor-Totoro/
They're both really cute.
Also I have some classic shoujo series. I don't know if they'd interest you, but they are a thing if you are curious.

https://anilist.co/manga/151556/All-the-Things-I-Like-About-You/
https://anilist.co/manga/116600/Ginger-and-the-Cursed-Prince/
features a very flawed mc at the beginning that becomes a much better person by the end (a heads up in case you find her unlikable at first it's intentional)
https://anilist.co/manga/136088/Two-Steps-Away/
two steps away has some psychological/thriller elements, just noticed that's not tagged
i would give for multiple but you're only allowed one recommendation from each person </3
Thank you for your recommendations, the manhua and manhwas that you
recommend seem interesting. Here's the AniList Submission Manual
so you can add tags to and other stuff to anime and manga or create anime
and manga so that a anime or manga data mod can add them.
my last recommendation needed for the challenge is requirement 6! (making a repost because the first post looks like i got the recommendation but i can't take two from the same person due to the rules)
One AWCer’s trash is another AWCer’s treasure: Read a manga that was recommended to you by another AWC member who rated it 6, 60/100, :I, ☆☆☆ or lower
Here are a couple of mangas with an average score below 60%, the first one I couldn't read past the 3rd chapter.

I WROTE AN ENTIRE LONG COMMENT FOR THIS AND MY COMPUTER DELETED IT. SO HERE WE GO AGAIN
also. why do show creators from the ye olden days not know the concept of splitting things up into seasons??? they're like: one season 3945904950654909 episodes.
https://anilist.co/anime/338/Rose-of-Versailles/
it's a shoujo. you love shoujo!! it's CLASSIC shoujo. it's mad long though but i thought i'd put it out there in case you want to watch it but it really feels like your cup of tea.
https://anilist.co/anime/283/Anne-of-Green-Gables/
the manga's super cute and you said you liked the anne books growing up!!
i also wanted to provide some movies because those two series above are so long it's lowkey scary and just in case you wanted to finish this challenge within the next decade:
https://anilist.co/anime/3186/Swan-Lake/
cute old romance drama fantasy!!! felt like something you'd like.
https://anilist.co/anime/9547/The-Story-of-Heidi/
uh it was lokwey hard. to find a good old movie especially because like all of them are BATTLE MAN ACTION SHOUNEN FIGHT TO THE DEATH and DRAGON BALL and that didn't feel like something you'd love. and i wanted to provide options. so this one's not too long and it's short and it's cute so it felt like something you might like.
i would've provided a ghibli film but you've seen them all </3
@MissUnova I think I recommended Rose of Versailles to you for the challenge! XD I think that's what I'll probably be watching! :)
The other things look so cute! I think I'll have to add some stuff to my list! :)
You are a lifesaver my dear friend!

I have not read it actually, I only watched the anime but the story and characters are very good and it’s got great art as well:)

This was a bit difficult as (according to your scores), you haven't enjoyed many of the ecchi or mecha series you've watched. Hopefully, I've found some that might pique your interest:
Ecchi:

Mecha:

Mahou Shoujo:

Hi all~ I'd love a recc for the Manga Beginner's challenge (because I need to get one to finish it!). I read just about everything, but something finished is preferable! Thanks~ <3
https://anilist.co/manga/54294/Ao-Haru-Ride/ a great shoujo romance manga
and if you want a quicker read these are very cute:
https://anilist.co/manga/103036/The-Story-of-Our-Unlikely-Love/
https://anilist.co/manga/118194/Koe-no-Chiisai-Komorisan-to-Kusodeka-Oogoe-no-Oobayashikun/
https://anilist.co/manga/106983/Arasa-Dakedo-Hatsukoi-desu/
So the thing is that I used to read so many shoujo weekly as a kid and I would just not catch up with them and forget where I was and Ao Haru Ride is one of them lol. I need to just read the whole thing over... I've read Kimi ga Kirai na koi no Hanashi and I LOVE Arasa Dakedo, Hatsukoi desu (very relateable to me ngl), I haven't read koe no chiisai komori-san to kusodeka oogoe no oobayashi-kun so I'll have to check it out, thanks for the reccs!~
ok so i see your top genres are drama, comedy, romance, and SOL! i tried to pick completed, not too long manga that fit those (and i added a bunch so that there's a better chance of you finding something you like!)
https://anilist.co/manga/116600/Ginger-and-the-Cursed-Prince/
longest one here, 82 completed chaps, romance fantasy, very funny romance fantasy with some good drama and comedy with a flawed female lead that grows a lot and a great main couple
https://anilist.co/manga/40282/Anne-of-Green-Gables/
in case you want something really short, it's 18 chapters, drama and SOL, very very cute and based off of the novel (it's a really good adaptation too!)
https://anilist.co/manga/97701/Machidakun-no-Sekai/
absolutely beautiful one that actually has all four of your top genres, it's award winning and rightfully so. 27 chapters + a one-shot
https://anilist.co/manga/30411/Kitchen-Princess/
comedy, drama, romance, and 42 chapters (the additional 11 are bonus pages there's only 42 of story), it's a wild and fun rollercoaster ride of a shoujo that takes some really dramatic twists and is absolutely not what you'd expect
https://anilist.co/manga/151556/All-the-Things-I-Like-About-You/
52 chapters but they're not very long, it's an autobiographical slice of life romance comedy illustrating the love story of the author and her husband! there's even a k-drama (le coup de foudre) based on it and it's quite lighthearted
hi hi hi!!! i'm looking for a recommendation for the Anime Beginner's Challenge!!! something not tooooo long would be nice :D i really like romance, comedy, drama, and fantasy!
It's me! Your bestie!
These are some things I'm also doing for challenges if you'd want to watch them.

You can, if you'd like, put that suggestion in the suggestion box.
