Initial impressions from first four eps are that this is a pretty cute show, the art and characters look nice and there's some pretty decent animation for the action sequences. Would have been nice to perhaps learn a bit more about our sleepy 5000yr old dragon before the main plot started. Not quite so keen on Chinese voices but tbf that's more probably me just not being used to hearing it.
I can already see the he's a coward joke wearing a bit thin though, hope the dragon does toughen up a bit by the end ortherwise it will get a bit repetetive.
Oh good someone started a thread. I read this back when it first came out. I ended up dropping it around chapter 9 as the story did indeed get bogged down in the basic tropes and the overall gag became repetitive.
Really the only thing that kept me coming back was his accidental overpowered disciple being fun to watch. Something about her being a chuuni with her belief in the dragon's made up story being what amplifies her latent abilities to crazy levels appealed to me but even that got old.
5 months later and I remember to finish this!
Tbh my predictions were mostly correct, there is very little character development and the plot doesn't really go anywhere or tie in to anything - but ya know what by I actually rather enjoyed it, a simple fantasy story in nice short episodes with some cute humour and a lovely colourful art style (and the voices were fine by the end, it was just me not being used to).
Having just binged it, it's simple and it's shallow, but the art is vibrant and lively. The humor is cute if repetitive, but I found that in most usages, it was more helpful in tying the show together than distracting from the show's progress. I think the length of the show both in episode count and episode length helped in that regard by keeping the story moving forward. Cute and quirky little fantasy comedy, wholesome and wholly enjoyable, if a bit forgettable.
