AniList is looking to recruit new community moderators to join the team
This is a volunteer role for community members looking to give back to the site. The responsibilities for the role include:
This is a serious time commitment, but is very rewarding!
All applicants must meet the following criteria to have their application be considered:
Having been an active community member will improve your chances of being selected.
If you have any questions about the community mod role or the application process, feel free to ask in the thread below, DM me on Discord: matchai#0001, or any of the other community moderators.
Good luck to you applicants, and good hunting to the Anilist team!
how did you get that custom tag, I'm kinda new to Anilist
By donating money
oh okay, so if you donate you get a customizable tag, btw how much to donate?
Hi there,
It’s about as much, as two perfectly delicious bowls of Chashu-Mayo Don. More info is available in the forum, if you’re interested Support AniList & AniChart (Donations)
But first and foremost, have a good time
Maybe work on current mods that abuse their power instead? Or replace them, even better.
Yes. Even when its obvious power harassment ... all other mods just turn a blind eye whenever it happens, no one speaks up!! you are here for the community, rightt?? this is icing on the cake. And if users say anything you get targeted by made up rules and any chance to get rid of you... everyone treated differently depending how buddy buddy you are with them. I hope we get mod who actually care about community and treat everyone equally.
Good luck with hunt! ^.^ <3
Wow the brand new account who got in trouble for making racist comments before they even had a list on their profile, then got banned for transphobic comments, then got a ban extension because they ban evaded and made homophobic comments on their ban evading accountf has now deleted their account.
You'd think it would be obvious to not just throw unwavering support behind a brand new account making baseless claims, but here we are. I sure do wonder if there is any commonalities between the people liking these posts and this guy.
(A vast majority of them are people who got in trouble for bigotry in the past and have since gone silent)
how exactly is this rewarding?
Being able to help the community. Being able to help ensure a safe place for users where they don't need to worry about harassment and bigotry
why would anyone want to donate a huge chunk of their time to ensure a community's safety with nothing in return for it? I'd understand if this could've been treated like a hobby but the eligibility states 18+ and you as well as i know college is important and college teens aren't exactly brimming with free time. I figured this would have the same or atleast nearly equal merit as that of an internship for being so demanding.
Not shaming anyone who wants to do this and has free time on their hands , was just curious about the pros of the job.
why would anyone want to donate a huge chunk of their time to ensure a community's safety with nothing in return for it?
Because some people like to help others regardless of incentives.
And those are not the kind of people who look for rewards
the problem here is that the forum description clearly mentioned this task being rewarding
u cannot actually expect anyone to read that and assume you guys meant the reward to be the happiness and joy they get from keeping anilist safe
there's also the issue of the amount of applications to increase from what is obviously false advertising
and what if you get someone who isn't as good-willed as you think they are and the reward (aka hapiness) they get is from abusing power? like most humans do
Its not false advertising, it is rewarding. The reward is helping others.
I'm not going to continue doing this back and forth with you as its been answered.
I wanted to avoid posting here, but I'll do it anyway. Awol, not everything you do in life needs to have some sort of physical or tangible reward, outside this topic, there are several non-profitable groups which their cause and satisfaction comes from helping others. Not sure how you manage your free-time, but I'm sure that when you're doing something that you like it is because you enjoy doing it and not because you expect a special reward for doing it (thinking about playing video games, reading books, playing a sport, etc.).
Now, like you have something you like to do because you like to do it, there are probably people out there that would like to voluntarily apply for a community moderator position, not because they are going to be paid or receiving a present but because they hope to maintain AniList a place where everyone can enjoy.
This topic really is a gold mine for finding users to block so I won't ever have to interact with them or hear them whining about their latest persecution complex. Sadly, they seem to multiply like bunnies.
I honestly don't envy you your position, but I'm seriously glad you and the other mods are willing to do it despite the overabundance of nightmare gremlins constantly running wild. Thanks for all your hard work!
some people get vicarious enjoyment by managing the cleanliness of a community they enjoy participating in and don't want to see rot via certain undesirable elements that stem from the internet including bigotry, discrimination, and etc
it's like people who want to clean up the park because they enjoy the sight of a clean park and everybody else getting to enjoy the clean park
with internet communities, people sometimes get stimulated by meaningful conversations on subjects of interest and wanting to preserve a place where they get that is important to them
yeah you get nothing from it but the monetary reward element is far from the only motivator in human psychology though it is the most obvious
I'm just making this reply because I don't agree with your comment and I find it a tad pessimistic and negative
I don't agree with your comment
the reason i was asking for more is because as it was mentioned above its time consuming and they want 18+ people to participate
im personally still in college so idk the how the adults can make time from their jobs but doing this in college can be detrimental
unless you're a genius then its prolly cool
@Awol24 I imagine it's a rotating schedule not saying I'd be able to do it but it depends on different peoples occupations including those who work at home and are more inclined to offer help
I didn't see any clear rules on how much time you have to put in I mean it's volunteer so whenever you can look over reports or whenever your on even if it's not for mod work
it's not as if the Mods are police officers working were they're working 12-hour shifts I think your seeing it as if it was a full time job
people put in time when they want to and can
at least that's my guess but @Taluun or another mod can feel free to make an addendum or correction to this post on how you're able to balance real-world responsibilities with modding
I just thought you not understanding why people would volunteer seemed tinted in a sort of pessimistic viewpoint
yeah no disrespect to the mods, i think they do a decent job here and i respect people trying to live their values at a cost, but this is like the most unappealing thing in the world imo. good luck to those applying, and even more to those reviewing. hopefully there are some reasonably equipped applicants.
yea that was exactly why i was curious, it was volunteer work, have u been to any volunteer job that rewarded u? im expecting a no, so what could have the rewards been
in this case its good faith
glad to have sated ur curiousity
not here to hate but just to point out something. if you don't think helping others is rewarding, then you're not the target market. that's just it. believe it or not, some people actually like helping without anything in return. it's just not you. in other words, just because you don't find the appeal in it, doesn't mean it's the same with others.
To be fair, It is incredibly common to call volunteer job "rewarding" and this generally implies something like, helping others, being able to give back to a community, being able to learn a new skill or something as simple as to help build self-confidence.
hell, even paid full-time jobs use "rewarding" in their job descriptions (often while offering below market pay lol). these days it's more a buzzword referring to intrinsic motivation than an actual indicator of incentives. thought that it was obvious that there were no actual "rewards" for moderating an internet site but
i assume the user was just disappointed that there wouldn't be any "benefits" for spending majority of their time being a mod.
that's fair of course, but it's pretty consistent with internet forums to not be compensated for moderation (not admin work which can sometimes be paid). i definitely agree with them in the fact that i also don't consider this type of volunteer work to be worth my time, but it seems evident from the get-go that there wasn't anything that said otherwise. "rewarding" is just a buzzword as aforementioned in this context and has been for a while.
I'd be the last person you'd guys want it would be like if you asked Stalin to help with community service and he set up labor camps to help clean up the parks
I'm not Stalin though I'm just shit and lazy when it comes to being responsible and I tend to push the line a bit and I feel a bit ungrateful to the mods so I'd like to apologize
sincerely good luck to anyone
...Can't we dismiss the banner on the home page somehow? It's really throwing me 'cause it's above even the anime in progress section... plus it's pointless to me 'cause I ain't old enough.
It will be up until applications close in less than two weeks.
Why can't it be dismissed though? Since some people just can't apply, it's completely unnecessary to them, and it can even throw them off slightly when updating an entry. It's really annoying...
I've seen it already and I just can't apply, so why can't I get rid of it?
Because it's a site announcement.
I've just hovered over the banner and there's a close option to remove the banner from there.
Wait there is? I didn't see it...
Ah, and it's completely gone... even though I didn't see that option. Were you able to close it for me or something?
Were you able to close it for me or something?
Mods can't do that for banners. The information on whether you've dismissed it or not is stored entirely on your local machine.
